George
It looks like Stathis Kappos has moved clubs again. I believe that he has left Akratitos on a free transfer to join Messiniakos, a team that play in the Greek “C” division. For those of you who do not remember Kappos, he was once a very promising Canadian prospect playing for AEK (one of Greece’s top clubs). He was actually a member of Greece’s U21 team, but never got off the bench during the team’s European U21 Championship campaign. He was capped by Yallop vs. Bermuda. Stathis is now 27. He has lost a lot of his lustre after unsuccessful stints at AEK, Aris and Akratitos. Messiniako are running away with group one of the two group “C” division. Let’s hope he gets a lot of playing time and turns things around. If you can read Greek, here are some links re the transfer: http://www.contra.gr/Soccer/Hellas/GEth_S/Messiniakos/110778.html http://www.risco.tv/story.aspx?id=110778
George
Here is a link to some photos of the stadium where Messiniakos play:http://www.stadia.gr/kalamata/kalamata.html Messiniakos is a return of sorts for Stathis. The team plays in Kalamata, the same city where he enjoyed great success with FC Kalamata. There is a rivalry between the two clubs. Hopefully, they will have a little derby next year in the Greek "B" division.
Winnipeg Fury
Great piece on Kalamata, I hope to visit there one day. It does look like both clubs will be in the Second Division next season. Has Messiniakos ever been in the First Division ?
