dutchboy
Just now I remember someone telling me once that Ben Johnson (of Seoul 88 doping fame) turned to playing soccer in the early 1990's. In what sort of perspective must I see this? Was it a publicity stunt to save the CSL or something? Anyways, was he any good?
Natesta
I know he gave Football (Canadian style) a try, and was terrible. Not sure about soccer though,
redhat
He became a personal trainer with the Libyan MNT, mainly for Khadafi's son, for a short while. I didn't think he tried out for any CSL team, for publicity or otherwise. After Seoul, not many professional teams would be associated with him. Grizzly
Maradona hired him as his personal fitness trainer in one of his comeback attempts.
bungey
I remember seeing a news story on it at the time. He was brought into the fold of a Toronto team in the semi-pro league of that time (sorry I'm so sketchy on details). I remember footage of him getting a breakaway pass and it hopping over his foot to the disappointed "ooos" of the crowd. That was the best hi-lite they could summon up for TV and I don't think he lasted much longer.
