a lot of people think that the demise of the NASL was the main reason for lack of development for canadian soccer players in the 80s,personally i think that the MISL throwing around big dollars at the time hurt the 80s generation of canadian soccer players in a big way.lets assume after the demise of the NASL that MISL was not an option, quality players in canada at the time segota, marinaro, catliff, mitchell, mobilio would have gone overseas to look for work and would have got it.branko segota was an NASL scoring star in his teens he would have lit up the english 1st or second divisions if he had gone across the pond.as well as the other players mentioned.playing indoor six months of the year can really mess up a players long and short term development.
