Fenando Aguiar was subbed on m. 55 and played through extra time as Benfica came back to win the Portugal Cup 2-1 over Porto.

After Porto went ahead first half Benfica came back to tie just after Aguiar had come on for Armando on a Fyssas goal. The team had just shifted from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 with Aguiar holding beside Petit and Thiago in the middle, and the extra scoring punch paid off. Jorge Costa took a second yellow m. 70 and left Porto with 10, a fact Benfica took advantage of in extra time with a Simao header m. 105. Aguiar was victim of a karate kick from Maniche that many felt should have been a direct red, but it does not seem he was injured on the play.

This is Fernando's 2nd Portugal Cup after winning in 2000 with Beira Mar. Last season he helped Uniao Leiria into the final vs. Porto (they lost 1-0) but did not play due to his loan period being up (if I recall correctly).

With this win Aguiar joins Paul Stalteri, Bundesliga champ, as the only two Canadians to see silverware in Europe this season.
