Massive Attack
Men's Junior (U-17) Development Team Tuesday, September 26, 2006 Development Team In Germany http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/media/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=1484 Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Junior (U-17) Development Team has played four exhibition games this week with a record of 2-2-0 while training in Duisburg, Germany. The 18-player team will return on Saturday, September 27th. On Friday, September 19th, Canada defeated local team Sportfreund Neuwerk 5-1 in an exhibition match in Mönchengladbach, Germany. The Canadian goals were scored by Rupinder Birring (29, 70), Michael Sarangi (49), Kyle Oliveira (64), the fifth being an own goal in the 54th minute. “This was a chance for our players to try some of the things we had worked on over the first two days,” said head coach Ray Clark. “It also helped me to play all the players and see which ones take the opportunity to cement a place for themselves sin the starting eleven.” Canada then played Bor. Mönchengladbach in Wedau, Germany on Sunday, September 21st and fell 4-1 at the final whistle with Keegan Ayre scoring in the 34th minute for Canada. “We played quite well as a unit in the first half and created more opportunities than Mönchengladbach. They had two shots including the penalty which made for a good start,” said Clark following the game. “The wheel fell off in the second half. Mönchengladbach scored in the first two minutes and dominated most of the half.” Canada’s third match during the training camp ended in a 2-1 loss to Schalke on Tuesday, September 23rd. After falling behind by two goals, Canada’s Mark Woodman scored in the 47th minute to cut the deficit to one. “We had a much better performance against a good Schalke team,” said Clark. “We played some good football at times but made a few basic mistakes that good teams like this will punish.” “The boys are learning quickly,” added Clark. On Friday, September 26 the team played to a 3-2 win in their fourth and final exhibition match of the Germany tour against Duisburg in Wedau. Canada lead 2-0 at the end of the first half with goals scored by Justin Isidro (26) and Rupinder Birring (29). After Duisburg tied the match in the 66th minute, Bruno Napoleao tallied the winning goal in the 77th minute. “It’s nice to finish the tour on a winning note,” commented Clark following the game. The team was selected from the 2003 National All Star competition held on July 23-27 in Regina, SK. The camp is intended to introduce the players to the national team program as they will be considered for the future Canadian Men’s under-17 Team. Gordon
7 different players scoring on the tour. Birring with 3. You wonder if having a last name like Wisdom helps in getting the attention of the players.
Canuck Oranje
U-17? Actually mostly 15 yr olds. And one still 14.. Great opportunity for them. I suppose they are being groomed for a future U-17 team.
