Consolante Added to World Cup Roster

Defender returns to Canada's World Cup squad.

[september 18th - Ottawa] The Canadian Soccer Association has officially replaced defender Breanna Boyd with Ottawa Fury captain Linda Consolante for the upcoming World Cup.

Consolante, who was one of the final players let go by the national team after a series of preparation games this summer, was recalled to fill a roster spot for last Sunday's game against Australia as Boyd struggles to recover from a concussion injury suffered in July.

The game in Kingston on Sunday saw Canada earn their third consecutive shut-out in front of a crowd of 10,068 in their final pre FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 2003 friendly with a 2-0 win over Australia. Fury forward Rhian Wilkinson scored Canada's second goal after Ottawa native Charmaine Hooper had opened the scoring for Canada.

The addition of Consolante brings to four the total number of Fury players on the Canadian team with defender Isabelle Morneau, forward Wilkinson and goalkeeper Taryn Swiatek having been named to the original line-up.

Morneau and Switek also saw action in the game against Australia.

The Canadian team now heads to Columbus, Ohio where they will open the World Cup against Germany on September 20th. The game will be broadcast on CTV Sportsnet check listings for times in your area.

Canada then faces Argentina on the 24th and Japan on the 27th to complete their group schedule. Canada's all time record at World Cup finals currently sits at 0-4-2.
