Dandal Posted September 14, 2003 Share Posted September 14, 2003 Örebro's Chris Pozniak was benched for today's home match against AIK. Match ended 0-0 without Poz leaving the bench. Atiba Hutchinson also started on the bench when Öster played relegation zone competitors GIF Sundsvall at home, but came in at half time and helped his team to a important 1-1 draw. In both cases benching is explained with the canadians' recent matches with the olympic team and the strains from transatlantic travel. Västerås (Adam Braz) and Enköping (Kenny Stamayopoulos) will play tomorrow. On a side-note, Jamie Peters from Canada's olympic team, has been invited to train with Öster the last week in september. The resting of the Swedish Canadians is understandable given the travel, but in a way its a shame that they even had to play that particular Olympic series, as Canada beat the US Virgin Islands on a 24-0 aggregate. Really a waste of time & resources. However, the next round of qualifying isn't until mid-November, so that should be the last time they have to travel the Atlantic during this season. I expect both players could get called for the Finland friendly in October, but obviously the travel shouldn't be as bad on that occasion. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dandal Posted September 14, 2003 Author Share Posted September 14, 2003 Örebro is renegotiating contracts for a lot of players at the present. As far as I've been able to find out Budalic's contract expires 9/30/03 and Pozniak's at the end of the year. Budalic is still with the team, he played with the reserves only last weekend, and he'll most probably stay with the team until the end of the month. My guess is he's back in Canada after that. Some Örebro players have got their contracts renewed, but not yet Pozniak. There is a problem with foreigners. I think the club has twice as many non-EU players on the squad as they can bring to a match. It's possible they want to wait with the decision over Pozniak until other things have cleared. Adam came in the 63rd minute. Match ended a 2-2 draw, the third draw in a row for Västerås. All reasonable promotion possibilities now gone. All hope avoiding relegation for Kenny Stamatopoulos' Enköping died today for everyone except the real hardcore fans when the team lost away 3-0 against IFK Göteborg. The figures would have been much worse had it not been for Stamatopoulos, who kept a clean sheet until a penalty kick at 50'. And for those of you who are interested: Nik Budalic and Chris Pozniak will both be playing with the Örebro reserves tomorrow tuesday.
