game report: http://www.ottawafury.com/wleague/News/news021.htm

Inferno 1 - NY Magic 4

game report: http://wleague.uslsoccer.com/home/58046.html

please keep in mind that both team are missing their team canada players, as they are all in mexico with the nat'l side. the inferno were missing chapman, booth and matheson while the fury were missing swiatek.

hope both teams rebound next game...although they're playing each other in ottawa next weekend!

there are 3 wleague teams in canada...they are:

toronto inferno, ottaway fury and the vancouver whitecaps (women's team).

as for attendance...it really varies. i think out in the west with vancouver they draw pretty decent, but the few inferno games i've been to there hasn't been more than a hudred or so fans.

Sudbury Canadians General Manager Rino Boschetto announced that the Club is preparing to sign a franchise agreement with the USL, which will see the Sudbury Canadians become fully inducted into the W-League in 2004.

“We still have the administrative process of securing the Ontario Soccer Association and the Canadian Soccer Association approvals but we do not anticipate any problems” said Boschetto.

Tammy Crawford W-League Commissioner confirmed that the USL franchise purchase offer has been extended to the Sudbury Canadians Soccer Club. Crawford went on to add that “she was impressed with the success that the Sudbury Canadians have had as an exhibition team and look forward to full participation in 2004.”

Canadians Head Coach Frank Malvaso was pleased with the announcement. “This is not just a good news story for Northern Ontario, I believe Canada will benefit as well. The larger the pool of players we have playing at the higher levels, the more competitive we will be as a nation.”

The Sudbury Canadians will quickly put this theory to the test by signing one of the youngest teams to play in the USL. Malvaso went to say that Canada has an excellent National Training Program for our younger players but regular intense competition is what is needed to develop players for National competition.

The Sudbury Canadians have also confirmed a home and home series with the Michigan Edge. Similar to the Sudbury Canadians the Edge are also vying to become part the USL in 2004.

The Canadians will play the Edge in Sudbury on June 29 and will travel to Michigan on July 20thto return the favour. The two games series adds to the Canadians current schedule, which includes games with Ottawa, Columbus Ohio, Chicago Windy City, Rochester and New Hampshire.
