Recommended Posts

Result of the Sunday May 30th, 2010 W-League game between Toronto Lady Lynx and Rochester Ravens played at Oshawa Civic Centre in Oshawa at 4:00pm.

16 min...Lady Lynx Adriana Leon GOAL...Leon takes shot in crowd inside Ravens box down middle from 15 yards and shot is into left side of net beyond goalie Alliy Weiser.

93:45 min...Raven Chelsea Kuss GOAL...Ravens Brooke Barbuto cornerkick cross from right has Lady Lynx goalie Justine Bernier punch the ball forward. Ravens Jessica Shufelt has 12 yard shot blocked. Kuss kicks in 10 yard rebound

through crowd of players and into net.

94:15 min...game ends.

Final Score:.......Toronto Lady Lynx.............1.............Rochester Ravens...............1.................

Attendance was about 60 on this hot and sunny day. This was the 3rd Annual Durham Region 'Women in Soccer Day' but most of the crowd that was there earlier in the day for the tournament and exhibition events had already left before

the game started.

The Lady Lynx were certainly not hanging on to their lead in the second half but their momentum was broken up by being called offside about eight or nine times during that period. I could see the nightmare goal setting up on in effect the last kick of the game. Ravens only other good chance the entire game was at 7 minutes when Jacquie Lacek beat the LL offside trap and had the goalie dive out and knock away the ball tripping up Lacek but the Ravens Eileen Coyle followed up on the left with a 12 yard shot over the open net.

There's been a big changeover in players for this season. The only names I recognize from that squad are goalie Justine Bernier, defender Kayla Afonso, midfielders Alyscha Mottershead and Allysha Chapman, and forward Nat Urbas. This year's forwards are Adriana Leon, Nat Urbas, and Lisa Collison. This years team has a lot of physically tall players. I didn't like the cornerkicks that Lynx players took as many seemed to be high and deliberately drift outside the box for chip ins. If they practice more headers on these set pieces they should be able to tower over their opponents.

Lisa MacNeil was the referee for the game and gave out a few Yellow cards in a fairly played game.

The Lynx started off last year with tieing games they should have won and ended up finishing out of the playoffs. Their next game is a home game at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 2:pm on Sunday June 6th against Quebec City Amiral. That team was an expansion team last year that displaced the Lynx from a playoff spot despite a 6-4-4 record. Last year's Ravens team didn't even get organized until a week before the season began and the city risked losing their franchise and finished with an 0-13-1 record.
