Rocket Robin
TORONTO LYNX MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TORONTO LYNX UNWRAP 2009 SCHEDULE WEDNESDAY JANUARY 28, 2009 (Toronto, ON) The Toronto Lynx released their 2009 Premier Development League (PDL) schedule today, featuring eight regular season home games at four venues throughout the GTA. The Lynx will host Great Lakes Division opponents once again at Centennial Park Stadium, Varsity Centre and Edelweiss Park in Bolton, and will play matches at the Hershey Centre Sports Zone in Mississauga for the first time. Toronto will look to build upon last year’s successful season which saw them reach the playoffs for the first time since 2000. Toronto kicks off their 3rd PDL season with a two-game road swing against Central Conference powerhouses Chicago Fire and Michigan Bucks. The club opens on Saturday May 30 in Chicago against the Fire at 9:00 PM Eastern before travelling to Pontiac to tackle the Bucks at 7:30 PM the following evening. The Lynx then return to Toronto for their 13th home opener on Wednesday June 3 at Centennial Park Stadium for the annual School Day matinee match at 11:00 AM. Expansion team Forest City London will make their first visit to Toronto for the game, one of the yearly highlights for school children throughout the region. On the heels of last season’s successful debut “Lynxfest” event in Bolton, the Lynx will return there to play two home games at Edelweiss Park in conjunction with the Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club. The Indiana Invaders will provide the opposition on Saturday June 20 at 4:00 PM, while the Fort Wayne Fever will make the trek to Bolton on Saturday July 11 at 4:00 PM. Elite soccer will return to Mississauga this summer when the Lynx host two PDL matches at the Hershey Centre Sports Zone. The Lynx welcome the Kalamazoo Outrage on Wednesday June 17 at 7:30 PM in the first of the games, before wrapping up their regular-season schedule on Sunday July 19 at 4:00 PM against the 2006 PDL Champion Michigan Bucks.. The Lynx will again host their annual “Summer Sizzler Youth Day” matinee on Wednesday July 15 at 11:00 AM at Varsity Centre versus the Cleveland Internationals. The afternoon game for summer camps, schools and youth programs consistently sees the highest attendance of the year for the team, and this year the Lynx will be highly motivated to avenge their 2008 playoff loss to the Internationals in front of a large partisan crowd at the downtown stadium. “We have high expectations for our team this season,” said Lynx Head Coach Duncan Wilde. “We reached the playoffs last season and fully expect to do so this year once again, and go farther than we did last season. A number of quality players from our Under 20 squad will be making the jump to the PDL roster this season, and they will give us even more depth. The U20’s narrowly lost the Super-20 League final last year, and this experience will allow them to be successful at the PDL level, and they will be hungry to take the next step.” Season tickets and tickets for all 2009 Toronto Lynx and Lady Lynx games are available starting Monday by contacting the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31 or by emailing tickets@lynxsoccer.com.
