"Soccer Not to Blame"

Something similar has just happened here in Toronto with the closing of the very famous Avonlea Curling Club, former home rink of Ed "The Wrench" Werenich.

In this case, it probably had as much to do with economics as anything else although the place was always busy. My mother was a regular but apparently the ice plant was on its last legs and there were real money concerns about replacing it.

The owners have gone the indoor soccer route (it might actually be Futsal) but either way, an historic curling club is history and that is sad.
