Attendance was announced as 2129 but this was a double header as the men’s team would play at 4:00pm. I would say the game started at 400 people and ended at 800. Many of those in attendance left after this game as there was a one hour gap before the next game would start.

This should be a tremendous confidence booster for the Lady Lynx to start their season with so many new young players this year. The forward line of Sylvia Forbes and Deana Everrett (wow with five of the goals!) was fast and the passing pushed them in for many through balls. Justine Bernier earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx without having a lot to do but made a crucial save at 15 minutes when she stopped Marci Pasenello from 8 yards that she dived and smothered at the left post. W-League leading scorer of 2005, Kimberly Warner wasn’t listed as a starter or a sub for this game although Amanda Cicchini wore Warner’s familiar #21 today.

The Lady Lynx dominated in shots in net holding a 14 to 3 lead in the first half and finishing with 22 to 6.

The Rochester Rhinos has been renamed from the Rochester Ravens because this year for the first time they have the same ownership as the men’s team. I heard they only had one practise before this game because they were late to organize. The game day program inserts said that “numbers and positions were not available as of press time”. I’ll say they’ll be better as the season goes on and long term they could become a powerhouse with the Rhinos ownership behind them.

Next Lady Lynx game is next Sunday at 4:00pm against Vermont Lady Voltage, their only other American opponent this year.
