Rocket Robin
Dungannon won the game after a 0-0 game in regulation time. The game immediately went to Penalty kicks and Dungannon won 7-6 on the eighth round when goalie Brandon Regan stopped Rick Titus's shot. The game was played in absolute hell. The facilities were great but the game started at 7:00pm and it was 32oC=89oF. The welcome sign at the Nottawasaga Inn had a temperature display. Referee Joe Fletcher mercifully broke the game into 'quarters' by allowing a water break in the middle of each half. He also let the trainers treat the injured right on the field without insisting the player be removed so that would sometimes stop the game for three minutes. Because it was an exhibition game, the teams were allowed unlimited substitutions so some players were subbed and resubbed as the game went on. The Lynx made the most of this rule. The teams could have played all night without scoring as the changes just weren't very dangerous. The Lynx had Joe Mattacchione play some of the game after his long injury. Andres Arango played for much the same reason but he played the whole game. Charles Gbeke was in for much of the game as a forward and was good at knocking down balls but couldn't get a way a clear shot. Sean Fraser played the whole game and was fast but couldn't get away challenging shots. Theo Zagar played the whole game and looks recovered from his injury. (Injured Dave Simpson wasn't in the game). If you've been frustrated by watching the Canadian National team at the Gold Cup, this is like the Lynx as they just didn't get anything done when into the final third of the field. I'll give more details tomorrow but it's very late.
