Richard Posted June 7, 2005 Share Posted June 7, 2005 Media Release For Immediate Release: June 7, 2005 WHITECAPS HONOUR FALLEN MEMBERS OF THE WHITECAPS FAMILY THIS FRIDAY Whitecaps will pay special tribute to Jock MacDonald and Domenic Mobilio at Alumni Night VANCOUVER, BC – This Friday, June 10 the Vancouver Whitecaps will take on their I-5 rivals from Oregon, the Portland Timbers, at Whitecaps Alumni Night. Prior to the 7:00 pm kick off there will be a special tribute to the Whitecaps family members lost in the off-season: Domenic Mobilio, Whitecaps/86ers all-time leading scorer, and Jock MacDonald, Whitecaps long-time equipment manager. Fans are encouraged to come early and join Whitecaps Alumni, including former greats Carl Valentine, Paul Dolan, Ian Bridge, and John Catliff, and members of both Jock MacDonald’s and Domenic Mobilio’s family for a special pre-game tribute to Jock and Domenic. In 15 seasons with the Vancouver 86ers Domenic scored 170 goals, more than double the club’s next leading scorer. In memory of his great accomplishments, the Golden Boot Award, a bronzed trophy made from one of Domenic’s left boots, will be awarded annually by the Mobilio family to the Whitecaps Men’s player who scores the most goals. In addition, in memory of Jock MacDonald’s dedication to the Whitecaps organization, a special trophy, the Unsung Hero Award, has been created to honour him. Jock was a founding member of the 86ers soccer club and a key to resurrecting professional soccer in Vancouver. His gracious personality and contributions will continue to be a part of the Whitecaps. The Jock MacDonald Unsung Hero Award will be awarded annually to the Whitecaps Men’s player that demonstrates these great values. The following night, Saturday, June 11, the Whitecaps Women take on the Denver Lady Cougars at Swangard Stadium, kick off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
