Guest Ed
Hannover 96 are away to Hamburger SV on Saturday in the Bundesliga 1, looking to stay in 5th place or better. With Tarnat back at left back, Julian de Guzman should be back in his familiar d-mid role. Werder Bremen should have an easier game as they travel south to the Schwarzwald to take on next to last place SC Freiburg, with Paul Stalteri expected to start at left back. Tam Nsaliwa and 1.FC Saarbruecken in 6th place in the Bundesliga 2 take on 7th place Erzerbirge Aue tomorrow at home. No sign of Ryan Thomson with RW Essen as they take on LR Ahlen tomorrow. Also tomorrow, Nik Ledgerwood and the 1860 Muenchen amateurs hope to pull themselves out of relegation territory with a win over last place FC Nottingen in the Regional League South. Coach Higl named Nik as one of his better players this first half of the season and stressed that staying up in the Regional League this season would be like winning the league for this very young team, with only 2 players over 23 yrs old. Grizzly
Nsaliwa has started for Saarbrucken who lead Aue 2-0 early in the second half. For anyone who understands German, MDR radio is giving live radio commentary of the game at regular intervals between news stories: http://www4.mdr.de/sport/ergebnisse/Inhalt_fussball_Live.html Commentator has just mentioned that Saarbrucken has a very solid defence. 1860 Munich is also leading their game 2-0 in the 2nd half. Hannover96Girl
There was an article about de Guzman in today's paper. Julian is quoted as saying that the chances of him staying are 50% and if he should stay in Germany then with Hannover. Apparently Tottenham is interested now as well. Guest Ed
Leverkusen are ruled out and a decision to stay or go will be made in the new year for Julian. Tam was in on the first Saarbruecken goal; game ended 2-1. A good day for Nik Ledgerwood and company as they move up out of relegation territory into 9th place with a strong 4-0 win in the very tight Regional League South. Grizzly
Saarbrucken wins 2-1. Nsaliwa plays 90 minutes and the first goal resulted from a cross from him that one of his teammates headed onto the post before another colleague put in the rebound. Ledgerwood subbed in in minute 65 as 1860 beat Nottingen 4-0.
Guest Ed
Another impressive performance by Hannover 96 as they beat Hamburger SV 2-0 in Hamburg. Julian de Guzman goes 90 minutes in his defensive midfield role. A strong outing by Werder Bremen as they demolish SC Freiburg 6-0. Paul Stalteri plays 90 minutes at left back; his cross to Klose leads to the first goal. The Canadians in the Bundesliga sit in both UEFA spots (4th and 5th)as they head to the last game before the winter break. A positive note on the tottenham report regarding working papers....i believ that since JDG has played in virtually all our games in the last year or 2 he shouldnt have too much problem gettin a visa. I think it's somehting like as long as he's played 75 or 80% of the MNT's games in the last year or 2.
Hannover96Girl
La Coruna now interested as well. It's gonna be hard to keep him here.
Guest Can. in UK
From sportinglife.com: Defender Julian de Guzman has attracted the interest of Tottenham and Marseille, but looks set to remain in north Germany - for the time being at least. "I would not play for another team in Germany," the 23-year-old told kicker magazine. "And it's good for my development to spend two or three more seasons with Hannover." Guest Ed
Julian de Guzman has moved into the top 10 in kicker magazine ranking of midfielders in the Bundesliga. Four of the top 10 are from Hannover. He is in 9th place, percentage points behind Ballack
Guest Ed
Paul Stalteri and Werder Bremen need a draw or win to advance in Group G as they take on Valencia today in Spain. The Charisteas/Klose combination is red hot as they head into the match. BTW, Paul received an excellent 2.5 rating from kicker for the 6-0 demolition of SC Freiburg on Saturday. Also, it's a little early to crown Bayern Munich as Bundesliga champions. The defending Bremen side have the most potent attack in the Bundesliga and the best goal difference in the league. Also of note, anybody watching Hannover 96 these past few seasons will do a double take upon learning they have the best defence in the Bundesliga, with one more game to go before the winter break. canso
...and with Schalke on a tear it's shaping up to be quite a race! Don't count out Stuttgart either.
Guest Ed
Werder Bremen score in the 83rd minute and again in injury time to put Valencia out of the Champions League as Paul Stalteri's side and Inter Milan move on to the knockout stage from Group G. Paul goes 90 minutes at left back in the 2-0 win in Spain.
