VIRGINIA BEACH, May 7, 2005 - The Montreal Impact remained undefeated in three games this season, beating the Virginia Beach Mariners 1-0, Saturday, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

SUMMARY

Impact forward Eduardo Sebrango scored the only goal of the game at the 54th minute of play. Sebrango scored the game-winner on a header, taking a centering ball from midfielder Patrick Leduc and redirecting it in the upper left corner of the net, past Mariners goalkeeper Matt Nelson.

Beforehand, the Impact's best scoring opportunity came at the 24th minute when team captain Mauro Biello rattled a ball off the left post from 20-yards out.

The Impact nearly doubled their lead at the 62nd minute, when Impact defender Gabriel Gervais pounced on a loose ball in the 18-yard box but his shot was blocked on the line by Mariners midfielder Jeff Bilyk.

Impact goalkeeper Greg Sutton staved off the Mariners at the end of the game, notably at the 75th minute with a diving save on forward Daniel Castellanos, from the middle of the box. Sutton tallied his second shutout of the season.

The Impact now has a record of 2-0-1 and travels to Richmond to take on the Kickers Sunday, at 6:00 pm (CJAD 800).

COMMENTS

Head coach Nick De Santis: "It is an excellent win for us. We played the game we wanted to play. They tried to counterattack in the first half but we closed the game down defensively. We were very disciplined on our backline and it allowed us to get the shutout."

Goalkeeper Greg Sutton: "Emotions were running high tonight. It’s a well-deserved victory because we had not win here for a long time. We were expecting a good opposition and we defended well. Now we’ll try to win tomorrow's game to complete a successful weekend.

Eduardo Sebrango: "It was a perfect ball coming from Leduc. I ran into it and deflected the ball well. We played another good game by moving the ball well. It was a team effort."
