Japan takes final spot in Women's World Cup

July 12, 2003

TOKYO (AP) -- Japan secured the final spot in the Women's World Cup on Saturday, beating Mexico 2-0 on goals by Homare Sawa and Karina Maruyama.

Japan, which played to a 2-2 tie last week in Mexico City in the first game of the two-game, total-goals series, will be making its fourth straight appearance in the Women's World Cup, set for Sept. 20-Oct. 12 in the United States.

Make the ball run, so you don't have to.
