DJT
Originally posted on the other forum by Ed - Mar 18, 2004, 9:23 PM</u> This Saturday Julian de Guzman is expected to start once again for Hannover 96 as they visit Schalke 04. The fight to avoid relegation is on, as the club needs points now to pull free of the relegation zone (bottom 3 teams in the Bundesliga 1). New coach Lienen had an interesting quote when asked about whether he had the talent on the team to stay up. He said there was no question he had some talented players, but wondered whether he had enough guys ready to fight for a win. He went on to say that at least you could teach a talented player to fight. On Sunday, Werder Bremen are away to VfL Wolfsburg and look to maintain their lead in the Bundesliga, with Paul Stalteri expected to start. Also on Sunday, Jahn Regensburg are in action as they host 1.FC Union Berlin. The club's website stated that Tam Nsaliwa was not part of the squad for undisclosed disciplinary reasons this past weekend. After a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Eintracht Trier, Tam may be out of the doghouse for this weekend's game. He did in fact see some action yesterday in a friendly against a lower division side. No word on whether Victor Oppong will be playing for the first team on the weekend as 1.FC Saarbrucken are away to the bottom team in the Regional League South, 1. FC Kaiserslautern amateurs on Sunday or with the Oberliga team who play on Saturday vs Borussia Neunkirchen. The Regional League team sits in 4th place, still very much in the fight for a promotion spot. The Oberliga team sits 3rd, well back of the league leaders. In the Junioren Bundesliga, Saturday sees Tennis Borussia Berlin hosting cross-town rivals Hertha BSC Berlin. It is not known whether Jeremy Shepherd is ready for that game. And 1.FC Kaiserslautern and Dylan Hughes entertain the U19s from 1.FC Nuernberg that same day. Sunday sees 1860 Muenchen hosting 1. FC Saarbrucken, with the status of Nik Ledgerwood unknown at this time.
Guest Jeffery S.
Still no Hastings for Maastricht, who drew promotion chasing Heracles Almelo 2-2 in Dutch 2nd Div. Srdjan Djekanovic reports that Serbia third tier is back going, they lost at home to a lower squad then also lost a replay to the league leader, putting them some 9 points back of the lead. He played both games, said the last one was unlucky as they had an own goal, stopped a breakaway but had a following player put one in. Seems to start every game in goal for Zelenizcar. Some rather disturbing comments about game-fixing in Serbia, something that is hard to get a grasp on coming from where we are.

Gian-Luca
Hirshfeld hasn't started for Tottenham today against Man U, Keller once again. Doesn't that guy ever get injured/red carded?
Gian-Luca
De Guzman did not get the start today in Hannover for the first time in a long time, but he did come on in the 2nd half in the 75th minute as Hannover drew 2-2 and put an end to their losing streak. jonovision
The Derby match ends in a 4-2 victory over Nottingham Forest. Two goals for Peschisolido, who also had a hand in setting up the other two. hamiltonfan
Pesh really seems to be playing great now. I wonder if he could possible move up to the EPL nexxt year, but doesnt he have a long contact with Derby?

BC supporter
Mark Rogers was back starting for Wycombe today, apparently recovered from his hamstring injury. (For those who missed it, he'd been on loan at non-League Stevenage but was recalled at the beginning of March.) Rogers played 86 minutes before being substituted as Wanderers tied QPR and Bircham (who also played 86 min), 2-2.
DJT
From Neil Davidson: Tomasz Radzinski came off the bench for the second half of Everton's Premier League and helped set up Wayne Rooney's 75th-minute goal in a 1-1 tie at lowly Leicester. Originally posted on the other forum by Winnipeg Fury - Mar 20, 2004, 7:22/7:26 PM</u> Haugesund play Swedish powerhouse AIK in exhibition from La Manga, Spain. George
AEK played PAOK today in Greek League Action One day this might become known in Greece as the Canadian derby!! Unfortunately, none of our Canucks figured in the match. The fact that Fernandes and Marcina (if he is in fact in Greece) did not play is no surprise, however, Kappos had a great game last time the two teams played. It looks like AEK’s defence did not play well so maybe we might see Stathis return to the pitch soon. PAOK won 3-2. AEK was leading 2-0 until PAOK bagged two quick goals at the end of the first half (both in injury time). PAOK scored their winner in min 56. Reza
Bremen now has an 11 point lead over Bayern with 9 games to go as they defeated Wolfsburg 2-0 on the road. Stalteri played the usual 90 minutes. Next up for Bremen is an away match at 3rd place Stuttgart which is potentially their toughest match until they face off Bayern in Munich 2 weeks prior to the end of the season. Guest Jeffery S.
Michael Klukowski played 90 and took a m. 72 yellow as La Louvière drew away 1-1 to Genk on Saturday. Today St. Gallen lost 1-3 to Zurich in Swiss action with Imhof playing 90. The winner and insurance goals for Zurich -never better said- came in the last 2 minutes. Ante Jazic played 90 as Rapid Vienna jumped back into the third spot in Austria with a 2-0 win over Salzburg. This evening Benfica won away at Beira Mar, playing before 21,000 in one of the new stadiums built for the Eurocup. Fernando Aguiar started, as expected with the Petit injury, and not only played 90 but had a hand in the goal: I read he challenged the defense with the ball on his feet, faked a shot and laid it off to Nuno Gomes who drove it in, mid 2nd half. Benfica then had to play the last minutes with 10. Next up for them is Inter in Milan in the UEFA Cup.
canadiankick97
Radz also picked up a yellow against Leicester.
Gordon
quote:Originally posted by Reza Bremen now has an 11 point lead over Bayern with 9 games to go as they defeated Wolfsburg 2-0 on the road. Stalteri played the usual 90 minutes. I know Ed will will enjoy this: I thought those black uniforms for Werder Bremen looked pretty good.
DJT
Originally posted on the other forum by Ed - Mar 21, 2004, 6:47 PM</u> Julian de Guzman was odd man out for new coach Lienen as Hannover 96 visited Schalke 04 yesterday. Hannover started well with good ball from Clint Mathis sending Brdaric in alone and he made no mistake putting Hannover 96 up 1-0 in the first half. Things looked good until the rookie defender Mertesacker deflected a cross in front of goal into his own net. Hannover went ahead again 2-1 on another goal by Brdaric but Schalke came back late to earn a 2-2 draw. Julian de Guzman was a sub in at the 75 minute mark. Hannover remain in relegation territory but are only 6 points out of 9th spot in the league so lots to be played for yet. Today, Paul Stalteri almost had a fortunate 'own goal' after a good run down the flank and hard cross early in the game from his right back position. Werder Bremen scored both goals in the last 15 minutes in a 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg after Ailton hit the post on a PK 10 minutes earlier. The win, coupled with Bayern Munich's 1-1 draw in Berlin on Saturday moves Bremen 11 points clear of Munich at the top of the table. Looking good for the title right now. Tam Nsaliwa was not chosen as Jahn Regensburg came back from a sound defeat last weekend to beat 1.FC Union Berlin 3-1 in Bundesliga 2 action today. His club sits in 9th place now with only 10 points separating 4th place from 15th place (teams sitting 15th through 18th are relegated). No word on Victor Oppong as the senior 1.FC Saarbrucken team could only manage a draw against lowly 1.FC Kaiserslautern amateurs in Regional League South play. No Canadians in action in any of the Junioren Bundesliga games Saturday and Sunday.
Gordon
Emilio Bottigleiri plays his usual 90 as Morton defeats Berwick 2-1.
Peschfan
In mid week first Division action Derby County hold Sheffield United to a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane to earn a valuable point against relegation. Pesch was a spectator for this one as a clause in his contract made him inelligible to play at his recent stomping ground. Derby County moved out of the Drop Zone with the draw, level on 42 points with Rotherham and Nottingham Forest.
DJT
Canadians in Italy - March 21 [*]Serie C1: Chieti 1-0 Teramo (Rocco Placentino) Placentino was subbed in at the 72nd minute (with the score already 1-0), the most he's played in an official match for Teramo since his debut one month ago. However, along with three others he received the lowest rating amongst all players. These two teams form one of three Abruzzo derbies in Serie C1 this season. [*]Serie D: Manduria 2-1 Isola Liri (David Masciantonio) Obviously Masciantonio recovered from his injury last week as he played 90 minutes in this match. [*]Promozione Puglia (7th tier): Castellana 1-1 Lucera (Franco Lalli) I don't know if Lalli dressed or played (though he certainly didn't score the goal). He may still be injured. Blue and White Army
Elliott Godfrey featured for Watford Reserves tonight in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town. No word on whether he started or was subbed in, but it was likely the latter. He did not score. The only paragraph that mentions Godfrey from ITFC's match report is as follows: "At the other end, Morrow shot just over from 20 yards before Price came to Town's rescue again, tipping Elliott Godfrey's header over the bar in spectacular style." More info to come when Watford release their match report.
