    Give Toronto FC credit.

They may be the single most frustrating side in Major League Soccer right now, but they sure know how to whet folks’ appetite for future events.

This just in: TFC’s 2010 home opener – on real grass at BMO Field – will be Saturday, April 17, against the expansion Philadelphia Union.

It’s the second year on the trot TFC opens its home sked against an expansion team. Seattle beat them 2-0 to kick off 2009.

April 17 is actually a week or two earlier than I was expecting. We’d been told to brace for a lengthy season-opening road trip, so the grass installation can be properly completed.

Given I’m so pessimistic about the endless, agonizing playoff tussle this year, I’ll gladly be a giddy optimist – for this fleeting, passing moment – and assume all will be ready and well come this now-hugely anticipated mid-April afternoon.

    Are ya pumped?

Quick memo to the TFC ticket office: Find a way to find seats for as many Philly fans who care to make the trip. This is going to be a wonderful rivalry in the decades to come. Let’s start it off right.

    Onward!
