This is something players at all levels normally decide for themselves, so not sure how many precedents there are to check what happened elsewhere.

Indeed. They both have the same agent and he arrived with Diego on Friday and word is that they are currently negotiating.

Not sure how well that will go down with the players. Some people can be quite particular on preferred brands when it comes to football boots.

How does that address the question? Saying they want something is not the same as guaranteeing it will actually happen. Good to see people are making it clear that they need to do something about this though.

If MLS can play in Denver on March 2nd, I think CanPL could have been a bit more aggressive than very late April and early May on its start date. Clips like this would help silence the soccer players are wimps types:
which having grown up in one of Scotland's former coal fields where stuff like this is nothing out of the ordinary I always found difficult to take seriously:

They claim otherwise given the rhetoric about 70k on players rather than 35k. Suspect they will fall somewhere between the best and worst supported CanPL teams, so the poll is overly simplistic.

How many of the players signed so far do you expect to be called up to play in the Gold Cup this summer (assuming all goes well on qualifying)? CanPL is more about adding greater depth that will help on the fringes than something that will be in any way pivotal to the core of the CMNT roster any time soon. In general, I think people are making too much out of one disappointing qualification cycle for the USMNT and are conveniently ignoring the great strides that have been made on academy systems by MLS teams over the past decade or so since the Beckham signing. Where would CanPL be without the castoffs from the TFC, Whitecaps and Impact academy systems? MLS has been the engine of growth for Canadian soccer that has made a league like CanPL credible to enough would be investors for it to finally actually happen.

To avoid the 4th placed team wins the big prize scenario, they could have made access to the post-season open to any club that finished top two in either season, so if there are four qualifiers you have semis and a final, if only three then fall champion plays winner of the other two, if only two then that's your championship game.

It was a good sign when the Nova Scotia youth leagues announced that they would not be scheduling games when the Wanderers are playing, so soccer people can more easily go to the games. Would be a massive change in mindset to see that sort of thing happening in Ontario.

I think he might be with the team still and they are waiting to see how many TAM midfielders get signed or something. I could be wrong but I think that's him at the 26 second mark of this match preview video for the Philly game:

The Impact have been sitting on Maxime Crépeau because he wasn't what they were looking for. They loaned him to Ottawa where he had an absolutely astounding year (watching him tear apart his teammates for their awful defending was the highlight of the season). He is now starting for Vancouver in MLS, which is leaps and bounds ahead of CanPL or USL. Ottawa fans are rightly proud of him, as are many Montréal fans. We still consider him "ours" - especially in the Franco-Ontarian community. He was a boon to the team, and the city.
Why deny Canadian talent the ability to advance, simply because they have ambitions in other leagues? Why stymie our national team's development for the branding of a league that is not the highest level of talent in the country? Most importantly, why deny the fans of <insert market here> the ability to watch a quality player at a bargain price?
Belgium is clearly a lower level than France next door, and yet tens of thousands tune in to watch. So I don't accept the argument that fans won't accept a "development" league. Especially in markets that MLS is not considering.
CanPL is ALWAYS going to be lower quality than MLS, unless Canada's urban markets suddenly get super rich and populaed, attract 15k - 20k fans per game, in 20+ cities, and bring in Drogba-Rooney-Kaka level talent, so why not accept our unique market position and work with what is available?
I don't get the "if you're not with us, you're against us" mentality of this board regarding MLS and the Fury... it's a loan, not a vassalization or declaration of subservience.

Didn't say anything about it not being clear. The meaning was obvious. If even just one CanPL team averages under 2000 the league could have massive problems. That's what makes the poll overly simplistic because the comparison on averages won't tell the full story.

...and Port City were not going to move to Victoria, because there was no way the CSA would have sanctioned them under those circumstances. Remember how off base you were on that and how what I was writing at the time ultimately turned out to match reality? In general, it's a good thing that a low budget approach has been adopted, because this league isn't going to make it if the franchises run up seven figure losses per season like FCE and the Fury did in the now defunct NASL. So far, I'm quite impressed by what the Forge and Pacific FC are putting together under these circumstances, but not so sure about the Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg teams. York and Halifax lie somewhere in between.

Nigel Reed covering rugby league takes that to new heights of absurdity. Actually being from the UK originally I've always been skeptical it was soccer he followed in a UK context rather than cricket and rugby union and found it comic more than anything else that he would be hired to cover MLS. Sad thing is though that most TFC fans I ran into back in 2007 took him seriously and saw a former CMNT player like Bob Iarusci who played with the likes of Cruyff, Eusebio and Pele in the NASL as being the joke when they appeared together on the FAN 590, so the broadcasters who make these hiring decisions probably know their audience. Good luck to Nigel Reed, if he can keep getting a pay cheque that way, basically.

Interesting to see what he can do in the CPL, maybe he's in contention for the U23's who will have Olympic qualifying in October
In the photo next to him is his other brother besides (Cristian Gutierrez) Jean Pierre Gutierrez, he must have gotten that name from being born in Quebec also as the two twins

...and the limited number of those cheap seats will no doubt be long gone by the time tickets are on sale for single games. The issue is that at least half of the tickets appear to be $52.50 and up, while players are coming in from Dulwich Hamlet and Launceston City.
