  1. If only we could. Sadly the survival of the league depends on business decisions more than passion from the existing fans so whether we like it or not we end up having to pay attention. Of course it doesn't help that we have had very little CPL action to watch over the last year.
  2. To switch the cameras to the other side would allow for a slight rise in height (the stands are not much higher than the platforms) but come with some pretty bad consequences: showing the side without permanent stands on TV makes it look like very few people are at the game currently that is standing room only as stands cannot be placed there so any people who are there, look like they are watching amateur games taking space in the current stands to mount camera positions takes away ticket sales in an already small stadium I see no significant benefit.
  3. They did build platforms for the cameras. The problem was they could not encroach too closely to the wires so the height was limited. Hmmm, if they can't move the hydro pole could they make it taller? Nah, I'm sure someone already considered that.
  4. You are missing that Haiti is smaller than Vancouver Island. Travel between any two clubs is possible in a day by bus. You are missing that all club expenses are significantly cheaper in Haiti. We can barely sustain the CanPL as it is, the survival of the league is still a question mark. IMO the costs associated with adding a second division are not even worth detailed analysis until the CanPL has survived for at least five years from launch with at least stability, if not steady growth.
  5. Eventually BCL1 can be absorbed/recognized as a D2 if it works.
  6. There should be, and in the first year here in Victoria PFC did make an effort. They arranged special shuttle bus service from campus. Sadly they didn't support that with effective marketing so the bus was virtually empty and the entire first season of the service was... inconsistent would be the best way to put it. Overall I think though that the season does not mesh with University schedules. April is exam month, the summer months are a wasteland and by September, which would be a fantastic time to get students doing fun things, the marketing and ticket sales departments had given up and/or were decimated by staffing changes/layoffs to close the season. What has always struck me as an opportunity missed, is the busloads of international summer students (when that is happening) who are looking for group activities. Fill a couple of busses with these kids and some "guides" to teach them some simple chants and maybe they spend some actual money on food, beverage and merch.
  7. I think 2020 is done and dusted, lets move on.
  8. Given that 2020 will soon be just a bad memory, let's start taking about 2021.
  9. Every year since 2013, the Lake Side Buoys have awarded their Supporters' Choice Player of the Year Award to the best player as voted by the fans. Usually this trophy is presented at the final home game of the season, but in 2020, it was awarded to Marco Bustos at a post-season training session.

  11. Yeah it was stupid and Friend was annoyed as heck about it last year. Glad to hear the league smartened up. I think the issue was skittish owners hedging their bets in case the league or their team didn't get off the ground and stick them with wage bills if things went south.
  12. Are they allowed to yet? Talk from Rob Friend last year was they wanted to but were prohibited from doing so by league rules for the first two years at least.
  13. Are they? I thought the rule was competitive matches for most, if not all, of the last 50 years?
  14. Right?!? Every time he was on the pitch I expected big things. He didn't really show the same spark this year but that seemed like an issue with his playing time (not enough) than his talent and effort.
  15. The "open" (for selected Collective members) training session tomorrow should be interesting to see who is there. Jason from LSBTV is going so hopefully we get some kind of report.
  16. Funny, I'm pretty sure there is no track at Westhills Stadium.
  17. Yup, he literally said he would be fine if the same play drew the same call in other games. Kinda a cliche all right but we lost two different games this season (out of only 8 played total) due to bad calls so it's hard not to feel aggrieved. Is it time for the dreaded VAR conversation again? Oh, wait, no thanks.
  18. I think we are doing really well and Kah is definitely an upgrade. The core of the team is the same as last year but beating Calgary yesterday showed how a coach (working with good transfers) can make a big difference.
  19. Re: Forge punishment. Easy, at the conclusion of the first round, before places in the final four are awarded, deduct three points to any team that has not met the minutes requirement. Then calculate the final standings for round one. Easy, direct and finished quickly without affecting future budgets. Anything less IMO renders the rule a joke.
  20. Anyone have any idea why I can watch repeats on my laptop but when I tried to watch the live game yesterday it just gave me an error message? What would allow one to stream while the other could not? (Was able to get the game on my phone no problem.)
  21. What a fucking bullshit schedule. We play two Tuesdays before noon Pacific Time.
