  1. LOL, I should have said "national tea attendance record".
  2. Can we stop this partisan BS please? The players have never expressed any such preference publicly and my guess is they never will. I think they would be delighted to play in Vancouver where the LARGEST EVER crowd gathered for a game in Canada happened but I don't think any of them will wade into this minefield so let's just stop using that as some sort of justification for ANY particular city.
  3. LOL you are right. Beating Mexico is seared in my brain but the "final" against T&T has faded. Yeah, don't recall how it worked last time or what the rules are this time. I believe they can win the tournament but not the cup which marks the Confederation Champions but my old man brain clearly (from above) is showing gaps. LOL
  4. Thinking about the 2000 GC and watching Hastings score the winner reminded me that that semifinal against Mexico became the final because the guest team won the other semi. I know it's not likely, but this game could be the defacto final if Qatar manages to beat USA. Just interesting trivia rather than a prediction. LOL
  5. The Whitecaps performance in the previous competition also enters into it I would assume. They were knocked out by Calgary,
  6. I can install DAZN on my TV so it's kinda annoying starting the third year of the service and still no OneSoccer app. Of course I still have to switch to my PS4 to watch Disney+ so I guess it's not just them who are lazy.
  7. I'd say they could be in the mix down the road but the ones already listed are going to get clubs first IMO. Of course a rich wanker with a dream could put one there sooner but that is true of many places in Canada ie. Fredericton NB, Sudbury ON, St. John's NL.
  8. LOL, if you add Saskatoon to that list it is the exact same list we have talking about for the last three years. Where else would expansion be likely in the next few years?
  9. Apparently the forum has promoted me to, "Rookie". 🤣

  10. I don't understand how their "highlights" editors/compilers think. I still have not been able to find any video of the red card against the keeper in the Jamaica v Costa Rica game. LOL
  11. WTF are you talking about. I have been waiting since 2009 (Highlanders and then PFC) for a competitive match against the Whitecaps here in Victoria. This is epic. And BTW, what have PFC done that the Whitecraps have not? Beaten Calgary.
  12. Time to see if Kah can unlock Forge or if we are just in the fight for 2nd.
  13. It was a beautiful moment, made all the more surreal when they pulled back to a wide shot of the empty stadium and the groundskeeper collecting the corner flags in the background. LOL
  14. I didn't even think about it, I just subscribed for a year. NBD
  15. I have never understood this sort of hero-worship BS. Being the most talented player on a team is in NO WAY qualification to be a captain. At least not in the mind of anyone who actually believes the position means anything.
  16. Pretty sure 2022 is the realistic launch. What would be the point of trying to do it this summer?
  17. The size of the field would be regulation and yes the outfield would overlap the pitch somewhat which cannot be avoided when groundsharing with baseball. At least the infield would be totally separate. I remember horror stories of pitchers mounds being smoothed out turfed over temporarily (and badly) for games in US stadia. The layout would allow for a decent number of seats along Cook St (but if I was designing it, the trees would come down and the top row of seats would hang over the sidewalk to maximize seating.) The North End (what is currently the North side) is far larger than it looks and would have room for a stand there. As for the west side, that is the weakness of the proposal IMO. At best I would think that temporary stands would be wheeled out for each game. It's not the perfect plan but it's worth exploring if it brings things back to RAP.
  18. Well, given that many of us were saying RAP was the better choice since before Wanderers even existed I'm not sure that phrasing is warranted. This reorientation of the pitch proposal is something I first heard from Mark de Frias of the Highlanders several years ago. It is the only way to ground share with the Harbourcats and would make a great venue IMO.
  19. And if soccer was a popular spectator sport built into the DNA of sporting culture in Canada as it is in England, we could have whatever names we wanted. For whatever historical reasons, selling professional soccer in Canada is an uphill battle and the branding and marketing of clubs needs to build support, not alienate potential ticket buyers.
  20. And here I am, twenty-plus years later, trying once again to help you to understand why that is wrong. <sigh> The example of the Tigers is great because it is exactly what I (and others) have been arguing should happen all along. Rather than restrict their "target audience" to a specific national group, they have decided to be inclusive of all and play under the name BC Tigers. This honours the club's origins without falling into the "Canadians don't like soccer" trope which is reinforced when using objectively national names. If you name your team after a foreign nation, you are saying that the team is not for Canadians. So no, there can be no complaint about BC Tigers, well not about ethnic identity. I would be happy to slam them for claiming to represent all of BC.
  21. Nope, but the day WC2022 ends we should shut this thread down and open that one.
  22. I laugh not at getting some $$$ but at the idea that the stadium is getting it's third, or fourth "name" since it first opened. We may just start calling it "Stewie's Place" for the Mayor who built it and the Starfish we love.
  23. Yeah, I'm not sure calling your self "Football Bum" or "Football Ass" is a great marketing strategy. Sure "kids today" may not be familiar with the euphemism but when they get a hold of it, it will bite the academy in the fundament. 😄
  24. You are giving me waaaaaay to much credit. I am explaining why we are interested in all the business talk and blather on about it here. I never said any of it is actually helping in any way. LOL
