Kaye has stepped up big time! I noted this after the Suriname match, that he had the potential to take his game to another level, that we needed him to do so, and he and Eustaquio might have been the two best over the past three matches.

Realistically, I feel we can take points--realistically--off of all the teams in the Ocho except for Mexico. (We might take a point off of them, but not realistically.) The US will also be damned tough, clearly. But there are points to be had in all the other ties. Won't be easy, clearly, but we should be in every match.

Proud of the lads. They will need to keep bringing that fight to the Ocho, but they are not going to be fun to play against, not for any of their seven opponents. Lots of football to come. As soon as I can book my flight to Toronto, I will do so!

For an old timer like me following the national team  since the 1970’s seeing them celebrate like that brought some tears to my eyes , it’s been a long long time but finally we are in the final round !

The work rate and ability to win the ball back impressed me the most in these 2 games.

Not sure why anyone wouldn't want Jason De Vos around the current team in some form.  He was a great leader and captain.

We’re one win away from getting as close to the World Cup as we’ve been since 1997.... and some people are complaining about the coach?!?!? Give me a break. Everything has worked out perfectly since WE ARE ONE WIN AWAY FROM THE FINAL ROUND!

I am all for dishing out criticism to the CSA when it is deserved, but I am not making the connections that you are on this. I mean, I get the Oz firing thing, and I agree we should be playing better teams, more often. However, the Octagon will literally give us that and so will the World Cup. The CSA is doing a pretty good job giving them everything they need to make that dream a reality, extra friendlies aside. To be fair to them I haven't seen the need for friendlies so far this calendar year.

I was one of those who really didn't like the Herdman appointment, but at this point you really have to be stubborn to disapprove of the job he's done.
Obviously there is much left to do, but one has to be pleased up until this point. If we implode today, we can bring the pitchforks out again.
I really can't see that happening though. Just feels different this time, and that's partly down to the culture Herdman has built. I am fully backing him at this point.

Yeah, I have the same fear, that he's more sizzle than steak, but proof'll be in the (meat) pudding. (Metaphor got away from me there.)  But, to be fair, he's damned organized, has indeed built a culture of brotherhood among the lads, and has shown some aptitude for tactics. Does this set him apart from other national team managers? Sure, here and there, but for the most part, not really.
But yes, get us to Qatar and I'll join the Cult of the Sizzle.

We honestly do not yet know if Herdman has the chops to take this team to their full potential. I suspect we can all--almost all--agree on that.  He has indeed done some good stuff, particularly in terms of organization, planning, professionalism and motivation, and we've seen some decent signs in terms of on field performance to suggest he has some tactical ability, at least.  But success with this young, fairly talented squad is about the longer term--the mid-term, really--and how far he can take these guys.  The team is indeed getting better and better, but we can only assess how good they can get by playing good teams. Failing to advance to the Ocho will be a massive failing. Plain and simple. I suspect most of us will be calling for his head if that happens, depending on the circumstances of that loss. But the Ocho will be the real test. I am not yet convinced Herdman is the guy to realize the full potential of this team, but we will find out soon enough. Give him credit for what he's achieved so far in WCQ, but the real test is still a head of him.

I would not play him in Haiti. Give him another few days to recover. We've got him well-covered for game one.
