My concern about that is the expectations people will put on him in a Canada shirt.  It is one thing to play with that swagger when you are among the superstars of Bayern, but we can’t expect Davies to grab every game by the throat and win it for us.   And more importantly, he shouldn’t feel like we expect that from him.  I can’t claim to know him at all, but I get the impression that sort of pressure and expectation wouldn’t contribute to a positive outcome.

Well, that was a poop-show last night!  LAFC, to be fair, is a great team. And, yet, they've lost a handful of games lately by good margins. Which suggests, I suppose, that relative the rest of the league the Caps are even worse than I thought. Is this possible? How much of this falls on MDS and his staff? How much of this is about the talent on the field?  Perhaps Christian Jack was being melodramatic, but the idea that the Caps are a fourth tier team within MLS is probably not as exaggerated as Caps management and ownership might like to think. Or do they know how poor this team is?  What I love about LAFC, aside from their playing style, is that they've a very clear and deliberate model and that they've hired the right people to execute it. Bradley, love him or not, is the right guy for this model, one that is all about finding really good young talent in the hopes of selling those players to European clubs for big money. And, along the way, they play beautiful football, win the league and get a crack at the cup every year or so.  Yup, they've got deeper pockets and much bigger market, but still...

I don't disagree with the analysis, but I wonder if what we are seeing--in essence--is parity when in most leagues we see two or three super clubs who dominate while the rest of the pack fights to avoid relegation.  Is parity necessarily worse than what we see in these other leagues?  I mean, yes, if the football is shite, then it is shite. No argument there.

Thats my point and making Sancho a non factor. That's because Bayern press people off the pitch and the when they're forced to go over the top Davies wins foot races and out muscles people on 50 50 balls
Canada cannot play that way against Mexico or US or eventually hopefully against other nations that aren't the Cayman Islands. Ironically if we did want to press Davies would be most useful defending from the front. When we have to defend in a compact block im not sure he'll be that effective on the back line and i don't think he's necessarily great clearing balls in the air with his head. Im not sure I've ever seen him have to

Can anyone honestly say they've seen Davies play "defense" at Bayern. I've watched almost every game and I dont think I've seen Bayern defend in their own 3rd for longer than 30 seconds at a time.
I see him cutting out passes and preventing people from turning around half but thats just a basic responsibility of almost every player on the pitch. I see him chasing people down or winning foot races for balls over the top but again thats kinda something different. Most of what he's doing at Bayern is playing as a winger he just so happens to have LB beside his name on the fun graphic before kickoff

Yeah, Fraser was tidy enough, but seemed tentative. Maybe he was just playing safe.
Love Baldisimo's vision and long range passing and the willingness to move the ball quickly. Remind me of a much younger Pedro Morales, but maybe more tenacious in defense than Pedro.  Well taken goal.  Kid has promise, for sure.

Yeah, I thought Fraser looked solid tonight, and I was disappointed that he got yanked. Kid needs to play. If that means moving from TFC, then let's make it happen.  I know a team way out west--we call it the Lower Lotusland--that could use a strong young talent like him.

It depends on jurisdiction to jurisdiction. I was thinking of outside Canada as well.

man.. a bit over 2 year ago Davies was still playing in Vancouver and was likely watching Kylian Mbappe win the world cup with France during the summer... I can't for the life of me imagine it ever crossed his mind that 2 years later he would be squaring off against him for a UCL trophy... damn

Very exciting match up. I'd like to see Davies get forward a few times. That'll keep PSG honest, might even force Mbappe into a more defensive role (unlikely).  What a year for our lad! And to think he is only going to get smarter, more technically proficient and, believe it or not, faster.  (Sprinters do not hit their prime until their later 20s, usually.)

I probably sound like a broken record (this question gets asked a lot) but if we play a team that Is just going to bunker against us, I say LB. If we play a team that we want to counter attack, then LW or striker (like the first Nations League game against USA)

Can you imagine what it must be like for a 19-year old kid who'd always dreamed of playing football against the best teams in the world to know he is playing Barca in less than a week?!  The fact that Davies is keeping his head through all of this--this entire year, all the media, big games, legendary footballers singing his praises etc.--is a testament to his character, his upbringing, and the good people around him these past many years. While his Edmonton clubs and the Caps deserve kudos, one has to give a special nod to the class and intelligence of the Bayern organization for how they've helped Davies this past year-and-a-half. Oh, and toss in a new language, a new culture and a global pandemic.  Looking forward to the match vs. Barca.

It was a very mature, rather than typically swashbuckling, performance from the Phonz. It was very appropriate for a full-back for a team carrying a 3-goal first leg lead into the match. It bodes well for his mindset going into a game where he'll be marking Messi, Suarez, and Griezmann at various times throughout.
The real question right now, though, is whether @Unnamed Trialist is with Canada, as embodied by Alphonso Davies, or with FC Barca?  🤔
