He took a step down to make this step up again. Glad it worked out for him and hope he can progress even more.

I personally feel that this was a Vanney move with his hate-on for Canadian talent and his desire to develop American players for the USA. From what I understand, Akinola has lived most of his life here in Canada. If he doesn't want to play for us - then don't. No point in constantly trying to persuade someone who identifies as an American. We have plenty of talent now and it will be much harder for fringe players like this to crack a Canadian squad now. Let the patriotic Canadian players develop the pathway because when a player's heart is with his country, amazing things can happen.
Where's Findlay and Bunbury these days? They can't even crack the US squad. Let these non-committed "Canadians" rot.
The longer Akinola waits "no time to rush" the worse he will make it for himself. You want in? Show you are committed. Show you are Canadian first. If not, buh bye.

Think you go with youth that you can develop and sell on whenever the options are reasonably comparable in what they can do in the here and now.

I suspect that Kyle Walton, a defender with some L1O and NCAA experience, is also training / on trial with the team (as I've previously noted on the CPL discord, both de Brienne and Walton came onto my radar as mutuals with AO players on instagram. While this doesn't always mean something, it has resulted in at least 4 names emerging before the team announced their signings)

Then he could put his money where his mouth is, give shots to all the kids he sees falling though the cracks from the other half of the city.  Good for both parties!  Seriously, how much cash would a guy like that want?? Way to much I am guessing.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the CPL as a safety net, but I also think people on this board are way, way to quick to suggest players should come back.  In this case, Zannatta's team was just relegated and on the same day there's the "Well, time for him to come home" post.  At the very least, I'd prefer the player sees what else is out there in Europe before looking to come back.

Not all Europe is equal, you're right.  Going to Finland isn't the same as going to Spain.  The whole argument of getting over to Europe is two fold.  There are more eyes on the game there so you have a better chance of continuing to climb the ladder and make a career out of the game.  The second is the competition, iron sharpens iron, you aren't going to grow as a player is you aren't pushing yourself.
For Zanatta, being in Europe, it is probably easier to try to stay in Europe than to come back to Canada and get a 2nd shot overseas.

The stories are years old but his coach in Brampton before he even joined TFC mentioned in an interview that Ayo was recommended to Canada for one of their U-15 camps but when they didn't respond, he also put out feelers to the US who then contacted him when he joined TFC.

Ultimately I think he plays for us but his current career trajectory seems to be going into a Jordan Hamilton direction.

I mean he was in TFC's academy, was recommended to the US by his coach, and the CSA didn't bother to try and include him in camps.

We can't ignore who horrendous Canada is at using players at youth level. We had two professional players who were eligible for the 2019 FIFA U-17 WC and both were ignored in Pepple and Ole.

Hasnt a USL squad beat an MLS team in US cup games?? If not, thats surprising as the USL squads run the gambit from very bad to damn near bottom feeder MLS quality.  And any time the bigger club doesnt take it seriously...its prime upset time.

    Dario has left Partick Thistle:

Partick Thistle can confirm that Dario Zanatta has chosen to invoke the relegation release clause in his contract and will leave the Club with immediate effect.

All at the Club would like to thank Dario for his service to Partick Thistle

Not surprised at all.  Hearts bring in a large number of new players every season and they wouldn't be doing that unless they thought the youngsters could make the step up (a small number have).  Dario was always on the fringe, in the same way as Marcus Godinho before he left.  Partick Thistle is a decent sized club but he'll have to fight to get a start there as well.  The fact that he got a two-year deal is telling as those are rare in Scottish football outside of the big 4-5 clubs.

I swear the Scottish Championship is Canadian player purgatory. So many guys have gone there and ended up stuck there for ages. Aird, Trafford currently there. Paton escaped as did Gasparotto.

Think it's no huge shock that the Valour are making a fresh start on goalkeeping. It was one of the biggest issues they had last season. Farago was significantly worse than the Belgian kid who had some strong points but also some major flaws.

Isnt Gloire Amanda still at Oregon state U? Going into this junior year I think.  He had a good first year, made top drawer freshmen best 11, soph he was injured and wasnt as productive.

When coach Carl Robinson made it clear to him he wasn’t going to be a starter in Vancouver, he expressed his desire to go to Europe to prove himself there. A series of transfers fell apart before the move to Fortuna came through. “I said to him, ‘Listen, my dream is to play in Europe, and whether that’s fifth division, eighth division or 90th division, it didn’t matter to me. That was what I wanted to do,” said Froese. “It was a big learning time because it was the first moment I actually learned what football is, and what can happen. That helped forge my character because then I went to Germany and I got a professional contract, when (Robinson) told me himself, ‘You’re delusional if you think you’re going to have a path in European soccer.’
