I couldn't wait for my lunch break today so I could have a chance to have a look at the new kits.  I'm glad I looked at some of them before I ate.  Now that I'm home, I can sign in and get a few things off my chest.
Pacific:  The starfish don't bother me nearly as much as that fading business.  It's the football equivalent of acid wash.  Every Pacific player should be required to grow a mullet and the team should come out of the tunnel to Working for the Weekend by Loverboy.  That bizarre crest that looks like a Girl Guide ribbon just looks worse on this shirt than last year's.  However, the fading is quite low, so most of the shirt is one colour, so it could have been much worse [ahem, Halifax].  Speaking of Halifax, come on CPL.  We weren't fooled last season either by having both VW-sponsored kits 4,000 kilometres apart.  5/10
FC Edmonton:  Beautiful.  No weird sh*t.  Just a kit.  If it didn't come with the mandatory white shorts and socks, it would have had an extra point.  8.5/10
Cavalry:  Inventive.  It has weird sh*t that appeals to a lot of people, but it's not hideous, despite being from Calgary.  (Sorry, couldn't resist.  Just kidding, there's nothing wrong with Calgary.  Besides, I guess it's from Italy, actually.)  Anyway, it's a sash that isn't a sash, and even though there are all those crazy angled lines, it's still balanced somehow.  Well done, Cavalry.  8/10
Valour:  Beautiful, classic and nothing weird.  An easy 9 out of...hang on, what the hell's with that collar?  Anyone who wears it is going to look as if his wife's constantly tugging on his shirt to get him home from the pub.  8/10
Forge:  Well, someone's been inspired by the lovely 1978 Colorado Caribou shirts [see below]  Holy crap, what a monstrosity.  However, I do agree with a lot of people that it somehow looks better when it's on a player.  Still, is it a football kit, or a 1970's rec room carpet?  On its own:  2/10.  Along with the imaginative white shorts and socks:  5/10

York:  It's really hard to get past a white shirt with white shorts...and what colour are the socks again?  On its own, it's pretty nice.   However, an entire kit except for a green stripe that makes the shirt look as if someone's been dribbling and puking green stuff all down his shirt (not a pleasant experience, from what I remember) is too Leeds-y or without-the-hoop Whitecaps-y for me.  I guess the stripe's not too bad.  Without it, that kit would be whiter than an Alabama trailer park.   5/10
Wanderers:  Bloody hell!  From best kit in the league last season to the worst this season.  What the hell is this thing?  There's just way too much going on here.  If it had just been that shade of blue at the shoulders fading into white, OK.  This trendoid fading crapola will look dated soon enough, but I'll put up with it for now.  However, the sleeves are a completely different shade of blue, which without the fading would be fine, but put them together and the completely different shade of blue looks like sleeves from a completely different shirt.  Is there a shade of blue that's not on this shirt?  Then you get down to that musical whatsit that looks like a set of shark teeth or something, and the whole thing is just a mess.  1/10
    OK, there's my two cents.

The gent captain is honestly the biggest reason they aren’t moving on. Failed to make the right passes in the first leg, probably costing them 1-2 goals. Then just didn’t pass at all tonight. Took bad shots all game that were not threatening at all. After this 2 game display I’m glad it proves my thought it getting David out to a higher level right. He is too good for this team. Should be a interesting summer.

    1. Cavs (By a large margin. Very clean kit) 2. Valour (Clean, nice pinstripe) 3. Forge ( Upgrade from last year, not over the top)
Big drop off in quality here for me.
    4. PFC ( Looks good from distance but the stars are weird up close) 5. ( I like clean kits, but this is a little too simple) 6. York ( Not digging the middle stripes) 7. HFX ( UGLY! The design on the bottom ruined the kit )

Nope. I watched every Cavs game last season. I shouldn’t say Malonga sucked, but he was very over rated. I personally as well as many Cavs fans am glad to see him go. Far to lazy.

Feel bad for David. His teammates screwed him out of a goal or two today. He was doing all the right things off the ball. He was in dangerous positions, but the service never came.

I don’t get the champions league argument. Yes he will get to play against the best teams, but only a handful of times per year. I’d prefer him playing against top teams all year long.

I’m not a part of the supporters group, and had no interest in meeting Malonga. Didn’t even know about this story you are talking about. I just didn’t like his style of game. Yes he scored goals, but other then that he didn’t do much of anything. Of course you want your striker scoring goals and he did that, but I think he benefitted greatly from the players around him. I could be completely wrong but I expect Cordova to be a better player at that position for us.
So yeah none of my dislike for his game is a dislike for his character. So chill out.

The reality is that we have lost players already - we know that. The biggest example is Lefebvre, but I know a whole bunch of L1O players who rejected contract offers, but would've accepted if they could actually make a living on it.
(slight aside, but what underpins my thinking is also that flipping burgers should get you a living wage...)
The other issue though is that it's not like players are only work 6 months as everyone keep saying. Training camp starts in March and the season ends at the start of November. That means a little over 8 months. Players deserve a couple weeks after in the post season, so let's just say 9 months. That means they only have 3 months to supplement their income.
Why do we want people living in poverty (or reliant on family) to subsidize the sport?
And I don't think it's fair to say that wages have no impact on player performances. That only might make sense if you assume player ability remains stagnant and that the current pool of players are willing to work for low wages. Don't we want players to be able to fully commit and focus on training? I know as a teacher, a lot of my students tell me how hard it is to focus on the work while juggling other jobs. It's no surprise that multiple studies have shown finances are one of the major issue for why students drop out of school. I think there's consistencies here with football. I want them to be able to properly commit to this as a career instead of having to see it as a gamble for potential future returns.

    ----

And just to be clear, I think close to everything else the league has done in year 1 has been fantastic. I don't see myself as a naysayer for the league. I am also happy with the standard of football on display.

That back heel was beautiful. This kid is something else. I’d be very surprised if he is back at Gent next season. Someone is going to make a offer the the club can not refuse.

What kind of money is he making ? 1-200k per year ? Going to the cpl would have him drop to 40k. It’s not realistic.

Apparently Cavs are bringing in Richard Luca, Mo Farsi, and Elliot Simmons. Very excited about Simmons, seemed to be one of the best player for HFX last season. Farsi could be a top notch prospect, and Luca is pretty unknown but good depth at the very least.

No clue what Kurt has been saying. I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be a top team tho ? I think we have one of the strongest and deepest teams going forward if Cordova is as good as I expect. The backline which was one of the best in the cpl is still intact, we have the best GK in the league... the concern and only real concern for me is midfield. Tommy has to bring in 1-2 solid midfielders, if he does that I predict we are in the finals again.

Yeah Millar is a hell of a prospect. Just not in that David/Davies mold that we expected Tabla to be in. However I do think Millar is still far from finished and is probably our best youngster outside those 2. I love his game. Works his ass off.
