I don’t think anyone is folding these guys expected to lose money and big amounts for years. The requirement for ownership was to be able to withstand big loses for years.

Only a third of Moncton's population is actually francophone (and only just over 40% are bilingual), so an exclusively francophone name there wouldn't make any sense.
A Montreal club ought to have a bilingual name as well (being the most bilingual major city in Canada and all), but Quebec naming laws might discourage them from doing that.

It might require some sort of license agreement, but the Gatineau Olympiques have never had any trouble, so I doubt it would be an issue if they wanted to use the name. Not to mention that there was an NASL team in Montreal with that exact name in the early 70s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Olympique

Chrome was able to translate it for me. It is from early 2019, before the first CPL game was played. A list of candidate cities according to the author. I dint read much of it, but the citie he listed was Ottawa, Saskatoon, Surrey, Laval, Moncton, and St. John’s. Hence the 1 in 6 since Ottawa has since joined.

An interesting fit for the documentary is Thunder Bag Chill. The team has buckets of history, is well run on and off the field, draws a local crowd, has youth set-up, wins games and championship in a US based league, brings in interesting players from abroad. They must be one of the oldest running Clubs at this level or higher in Canada.
I’d love to see the Chill take the next leap in the coming years by commercializing their product better
Also very interested in the Yukon project.

at any rate, good luck and pls post the documentary!

That’s a ridiculous scenario that isn’t going to happen though. Nobody worth a damn would naturalize in Jamaica or Canada purely to play for them. These players have legitimate connections to the nation that they’re playing for. Arfield probably has the least connection, and we love him. If someone wants to represent the Maple Leaf, who are we to say they aren’t Canadian enough.

Looking at the provided list along with the potential of more USL teams folding up, I have to think the level of play in cpl will take another positive step forward next year

The thing is we don't play enough to know what our best combinations are. Those 2 games vs the US were a bit weird. At BMO every player had an outstanding game. The 4222 worked well. Away game, different lineup, different tactics and not sure anyone had a great performance...maybe Eustaquio in his cameo.

This. How quick some are here to forget Larin has been there from the start, literally. At one point he carried all expectations of the program on his shoulders (unfair and ridiculous to expect of any single player, let alone a kid at the time)

    Such a pointless change.
The name has been with the team so long that it has become nostalgic and historical. The name predates MLS and I'm sure some hardcore fans remember being to games as very young children going with older family members. Why erase the past now? Canada doesn't have alot of soccer history and the powers that be, decide to get rid of what little we have. Sad...
Name change wont bring anyone new, it just alienates the older hardcore fans that purchase merchandise and are loyal followers of the team.

Geesh Rollins says this stuff about not TFC job to develop CDN etc, then 2 tweets later he talks about converting Bradley to a CB to extend his career.  If its not TFCs business to develop and promote cheap local players that would excite and involve the fanbase, why would it be their job to extend Bradleys career??  Everyone says young CDN should earn their minutes, not be gifted, well if Bradley cant do the job in midfield, why is he here???  Hes 33 and we tried this baloney with Frings long ago.  Dont we have a promising big young defender in the wings??  Dunn has got into 2 games in 3 years...he is 20 now, when are you going to give him a shot??  If you arent going to give him a minimum 500min this year then loan him out or sell him.

You're right on the MLS scenarios but I bet the stadium experience was night and day.
BMO Field experience was significantly upgraded once they added the new sections, amenities and roof.

A major problem with York Lions is the overall fan experience which can be improved significantly. There's plenty of space to add more modern structures at the opposite side of the pitch, building corporate suite, bar etc... McNab in a podcast even talked about adding a roof/cover to protect the fans from the elements it it came to that - and yeah, all of those are needed to attract more fans and he recognized it.
Do they "really" need to move if they can significantly upgrade the current stadium for much less than building from scratch like MLSE did at BMO?
The sooner they get to this, the better - a semi roof to cover the fans is also a must

I think what the tournament needs is a non-Liga MX team to win it. That's most likely to be an MLS team, though I'd love for someone like Saprissa to step up and do it.
I think the MLS teams are now taking it more seriously in most markets. I think it's viewed as another marketing tool for their global branding, and the ambitious teams all want to be the first to add it to their trophy case. Plus, I think that MLS knows it's close to winning it, where as before the gap between Liga MX and MLS was big enough that a manager could write off the CCL as "a waste of time" and no one would blame them. Now, it's not that MLS teams are expected to win it but I think if they don't put in the effort to win it there's a more negative view of them.

The part I find most interesting is that this is a total reversal from that "One CONCACAF" mission that Vic came in to the presidency with.  The idea of "One CONCACAF" was there would no longer be a Central American faction and a Caribbean faction in both a competitive and political context.
The proposed format is even more similar to the pre-2008 CONCACAF Champions Cup where there were club championships for Central America and the Caribbean feeding into the Champions Cup knockout stages.

I know @Ansemis dealing with the parameters given to him, but some of my criticisms, mostly based on how the regionalization sucks. In the 4 North American groups you would have 1 Canadian team in each, 2 Mexican teams and 1 American team in 2 groups, and in the other 2 groups would be 2 American teams and 1 Mexican team. If we assume the Voyageurs Cup champion will usually be an MLS team (and same with US Open Cup) there will be a 50% chance that there will be a group with 3 out of 4 teams from the same league (and all 4 North American groups will have at least 2 from the same league). Just imagine a group with Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool, plus one other team, like Dortmund. That sucks and deprives us of international competition which is what the tournament is supposed to be about.
As for the great win for the Caribbean, I don’t think that is accurate. They don’t get to participate in a group stage, they get 2 teams in the final 16. As it stands now they get 1 team in the final 16 guaranteed, with 3 teams among 13 other teams vying for the last 6 spots in the CCL final 16. Not much difference for them in terms of spots in the final 16, and probably less international games overall.

You're devaluing the Cup but constantly talking about how you think teams will field B and C teams in the final, despite providing zero evidence that this would happen and plenty of historical evidence that they have never done this in the past.

A model for young Canadians. Had a very respectable career overseas and then returns to become a staple contributor in his home league. And turning 36 next month he, like Hutch, is a good example of what you can do with great conditioning and a little luck over the years.

I hope so! I miss the group stage. So anti-climactic for teams that go out in the first round after only getting to play against one team.

It would make sense that some don't send teams to the CCC. We're talking about a group of 30 Caribbean countries each without a professional league.  Most of these islands federation's need CONCACAF's help to afford to play in the Nation's League and WC qualifying.  Their amateur clubs definitely couldn't pay for a trip to another island for a two week competition, since their players probably all have regular jobs at home.

I have no idea why you would expect TFC to give more minutes to younger players in a game that wins them a trophy and gets them in to the CCL.  That just seems like wishful thinking.

I liked york 9 tbh. Don't really think they need the name change personally unless they think it's too exclusive with just 9 municipalities.
Also I saw the logo tease. Has a kind of Cyril sneer/aardvark from pink panther vibe to it. Maybe it's one of those optical illusions and the whites actually the logo.

Was thinking of that scenario last night.   I would love to see it for one year but there is just too much risk for MLS to let it happen.  Imagine if that scenario materialized and it turned out the 3 MLS sides didn’t see the projected drop in attendance or support.  Plus they might find out that while they are the strongest clubs in the merger, the gulf in talent might not be as wide as they claim.  And I am sure that FIFA would take notice if the sky didn’t fall when all of the Canadian clubs played in the Canadian league.   Given the oft-discussed sanctioning issue, that would be pretty huge.

In short, MLS just has too much to lose to ever let this happen.
