Interesting quote in this Beirne interview
    https://m.soundcloud.com/adam-coombs-3/interview-with-dale-smith-on-ckcu-931-fm
When asked what teams will be in the league, Beirne said that he couldn't elaborate past the public teams, but did say that the league will be coast to coast, including both the Pacific and Atlantic, and that you can take that as you would (paraphrasing)
    Certainly implies interest in BC

Why does there need to a draft though? Let the players be free agents so they have the ability to choose the team, coach and situation that is best for them.

SPN Soccer Today interviewed Paul Beirne. He was asked what salary's would look like. All he said is that he expects all the players to make a full living wage from the league. He also seemed to talk about reserve players wearily as if they might not make a full wage. He did not say that outright though.

Also, whats with the MLS team hate? the success of one does not require the failure of the other.

Re the MLS clubs, I am not as keen as some to have them move to CPL - even in the long term.
I am a CPL-first guy (at least as much as one can be at this point).  From a supporter perspective, I think the development of a strong domestic league is priority 1 - and it takes precedence over the interests of the MLS clubs, the Fury, FCEd, or anyone else who has competing interests.  Having said that, I don't see CPL competing with MLS in the next couple of decades (possibly never) because MLS has a huge headstart, has a massive potential fanbase and revenue stream, and has shown the kind of consistent growth that gives it a really strong upwards trajectory.  I don't see the 3 teams wanting to leave that voluntarily, and I don't see much upside in the CSA or anyone else trying to force the issue.
If MLS continues its growth into a globally competitive league (which I believe will be the case), we will be really well positioned to benefit from that by having 3 strong clubs in the league.  Economic clout will give us levers to keep lobbying for things like Canadians as domestics etc if those things continue to be issues in the CPL era, and the CPL will still build the Canadian player pool and offer a developmental path for a much larger number of talented prospects.
There will be tensions in this arrangement - no doubt.  Does MLS start to make CanCon concessions in an attempt to undermine CPL (which we have already seen previewed with the MLS-first-pro-contract provisions in their recent changes to the domestic player rules).  And CPL will have to battle with the perception that it is subbordinate to MLS, even if it is tier 1 in Canada.  Not even CFL has to do this because, despite being clearly behind the NFL in terms of talent/pay, it has exclusive domain on the Canadian market and thus has no local competition playing in the big league (and yet many gridiron fans still prefer to follow US teams in US leagues).  But despite this, I still think we can build a strong domestic league while benefitting from participation in MLS.  Maybe it is a bit of a glass half full naivete, but as long as we can make CPL work initially in non-MLS markets, I think we may be able to have the best of both worlds.

Something has to be there to stop the balls when those wankers from [insert hated CPL derby club] come to town and can't hit the ******* net.

Tim Hortons Field is so open. It doesn't look as if it would be the greatest atmosphere for soccer. Hopefully they can make it work by filling in the lower bowl. They will need to sell a lot of tickets, luckily it is Hamilton which i think will have a good turnout.
Investor's Group Field look like a good stadium. The lower bowl doesn't seem to have quite as many seats. The way the second level is built up above the first should really make it seem more enclosed. I also like how it has end seats. That should make for a good supporter's section.
I'm looking forwards to watching the games on TV or online (i'm from edmonton). I sure hope FC Edmonton moves over. They play at Clarke Stadium currently. The fans are great but unfortunately the stadium doesn't help the atmosphere.

I have to say. Larin would be absolutely deadly with Raheem Edwards on his wing. Larin needs good service and Edwards has been great.

I am not sure why people are so worried about KW and Victoria. They have a decent fan base for the level they play (KW=350, Vic=1600-720). That fan base is expected to grow with the prospect of playing on a national level. And really, Halifax doesn't even have a team to base their opportunity off of... I have faith that KW and Victoria can support a team. Obviously, they need investors and proper marketing, but the opportunity is there. Victoria (although it isn't the largest city) has a lot of wealth which makes for a good opportunity to support a team. The Tri-City area is the 10th largest metropolitan area in Canada (they aren't exactly poor either). Both area's should be able to support a team.

Hi all. I'm posting this on behalf of Matt Gourlie (Matthew on the forum). He would likely not advertise his blog here, but I'm not shy
Matt is a long time Voyageur, long time sports journalist with Moose Jaw Times Herald, and a founding member of POBSG.
Matt had a sit-down interview with Paul Beirne yesterday and he tells me he will have the article up later today. I'm not 100% sure on the content, but it sounds like there will be some good stuff in there.
Thanks to anyone reading it and passing it on.

I just thought of a secondary effect a 2018 launch might have.
So there will be a world cup buzz, that's the most logical reason to start when the will. But now you have a short season as well. So instead of curious casual sports fans have 15 games to check out the new team, they only have 5 or so. The result is that we may see higher than expected attendances.
Now the narative is "we had a great first season, look at our attendance! There are more teams this year and even more coming next year, we are a growing league." Now the league itself has a buzz. This could lead to more season ticket holders, sponsors and broadcasting rights. This league could snowball into something very legitimate very quick if the can keep it pointing in the right direction.

Note: before anyone goes crazy, the larger than expected attendance I'm talking about would be a league average of 8,000+   I'm not completely delusional, just slightly.

Montopoli did not say as early as 2018. When asked about the V-cup he said that the league will join most likely in 2019. He referred to League 1 and PLSQ winners as joining in 2018. Then CPL joining the year after and possibly doubling the number of teams involved.

I can't wait till he is fully healthy. He will make an impact for the impact (sorry i couldn't help it...). I watched him play in Edmonton all year last year and i was really impressed. He was the heart of our midfield. His positioning, smart passes, and movement kept the ball moving quickly through the midfield. I hardly ever saw him out of position. Losing Shome is a HUGE reason that FC Edmonton is struggling to start the season. They no longer have Shome to connect the defensive line to the forwards.
I don't know if Shome will start this year for the impact. I see him playing where Bernier plays right now. However I do see Shome being subbed in consistently for Bernier wether or not they are losing or winning just because of his ability to control the game and add some energy.
