Maybe replicating something intimate like Halifax. Do we really need another oversized CFL stadium?
    On grass preferably

I can agree with that. There is no chance Fury could ever 'take down' FIFA. However a lawsuit and PR campaign could make things uncomfortable for Concacaf.
Im not sure how many millions OSEG controls they run a CFL team and a Jr. Hockey team. Point is Fury was a professional team with millions invested - how can some FIFA tell them where they can play?
The answer is because they are mobsters and bullies. They know Fury dont have means to kick up a big fuss and USL wont raise one for them.
Of course they wont challenge MLS sides because they know they wont stand for that BS. The Saputos and MLSE would never stand for that and they have the means to back themselves. Which is why FIFA will pick on FURY and bully them out of operation.
Seems like racketeering to me. Agree though Fury wont be able to fight it.

I agree its total insanity. How can some 'governing body' determine what **professional** club (that has millions of dollars invested) can play in what league.
I mean whats the criteria? Fury didn't pay a big enough bribe?
We have a world cup in Qatar (logical choice - no bribes there). We have a situation where migrant workers getting paid virtually nothing are dying building stadiums - basically slave labor) and not a few people dead ALOT.
Now a branch of this same body is telling a little club in Ottawa they cant play in a North American league and strong arming them out?
And people think this is OK?
This should never fly in Canada and Ottawa should raise hell

Im sorry but if you think FIFA sanctioning is the reason soccer is the most popular sport in the world.... (I wont finish that)
Soccer is popular because it requires no equipment and can be played in any country world wide rich or poor. It is also a very basic game - two teams trying to kick a ball into an opposing net. It can be played in almost any climate on a variety of surfaces.
It is fun to play and a pleasure to watch. It is quite a universal sport easy to understand and enjoy.
Its popularity has nothing to do with the mobsters at FIFA who brought you slaves (literally losing their lives) building stadiums for a World Cup in Qatar. They are gangsters and criminals - nothing more nothing less.

I'm happy we've re-signed Garcia and Oxner, two of our better performers.  Oxner was a pleasant surprise and he is, for me, our number one keeper.
Not surprised about Langwa or Skublak, especially the former after his shouting match with Hart.  Wished Skublak could have come back as I would have liked to seen him get an extended run, but maybe Hart saw enough to justify his decision.
SImmons and Ilda I don't really understand, but I wouldn't be shocked if one (or both) are back in the near future.

Honestly I don't understand people who keep insisting on promotion and relegation in a North American sports league. Let alone a soccer league in Canada. I think 10 years out from now if we have 10 markets that are supporting a fully professional soccer league that will be a massive success.
Promotion and relegation in a geographically massive country like Canada is virtually impossible. No idea why people keep pushing such an idea.

I hope this is not ture - he was one of out top midfielders. The results with him in the lineup spoke volumes. I mean what did the guy make 15k? 20k? If this is true.... Im just going to pretend its not - I hate 'I was told' or 'I heard from a source'.
However if clubs are releasing player because they are in line for a 750$ or 1000$ raise thats just kinda crazy.

Pragmatically speaking, you’re right of course. I think that people who are football romantics (myself included) often fantasize about the ‘perfect system’. For a lot of us (who grew up watching European football) pro/rel is exciting and organic. Unfortunately, as you say, it’s just not realistic here.

Well I think Langwa has potential but he had that screaming match with Hart which pretty much sealed his fate. Lots of rumors he had some dust up with his team mates as well. Might be a case of potential on field but a nightmare in the locker room. However a young guy like that tearing into Hart in front of 6000 people is pretty well a ticket out of town.
Skubi I love but he was a forward who doesn't score many goals and sets up just as few. I don't see why you would keep him - great guy -plays all out all the time but cant produce. Im assuming he was pretty good in Vaughn - that's likely the level he should be playing at.
Simmons I don't get at all. To me we were always a better team with him in the lineup. For me he was a no brainer to keep.

I personally believe that a national D2 is a pipe dream and we should not even think about it. Or at least, CPL should not. What we need is for the provincial associations to get their acts together to set up equivalents of what we see in Ontario and Quebec, so you have a high level of semi-pro soccer in every province, or in regions (Maritimes).
I also do not believe we will ever get to promotion-relegation in Canada, sorry to say. Unless we have major and ongoing initiative from the CSA to oblige it.
As for division size, since 8 seems like a reasonable minimum, if we get to 10 that sets us up well, you enable a balanced schedule of 36 matches in a season. That does put pressure on scheduling, and makes midweek games inevitable (maybe up to 6-7). But it is a full season.
You start a bit earlier and end a bit later. You eliminate playoffs and have an overall table winner at the end, in a single table.
They table of the league can be used for seeding the Voyageurs Cup, to keep a bit of incentive up late in the season for weaker squads. If they decide they really do need playoffs, to keep all teams competitive until the end, and to give added revenue streams to the better teams, I am not sure how you are going to have enough dates. The minimum number of playoff games would be 3 (4 best play semis home and away and a final at the best team's stadium), and a maximum, saying 6 make the playoffs, would be 6 games, where 2-6 and 3-4 home and away, and then semis, and then a home and away final.
In a ten team league, with V Cup and playoffs, the CPL sides would be looking at upward of 45 games. That is hard on what are going to be limited rosters with no forecast of feeder or B teams.

My theory is Media Pro is likely fairly unhappy with season one subscriber results. I suspect this is why CPL is offering free subs with every season ticket. They are likely going to pay media pro some amount for each sub allowing them to pay at least a modest portion of their expense for producing and distributing the games. (BTW thats all wild speculation  lol)
For me the pricing is the problem I would say 5$ a month is the max they should be charging. ESPN+ which plays the USL games charges $4.99 plus they have obviously tons of additional content.

I mean for me limiting age of international players is a MASSIVE ref flag. On one hand your saying you want a top flight professional league on the other your going to start limiting players ages?
Time to figure out what CPL can afford to be - a fully professional top flight Canadian league or on the other hand a shoestring semi-pro developmental league.
Its worth noting at this stage the age limit thing is just a rumor - however im not sure how you expect the league to be competitive when you start placing restrictions like that on who teams can sign. We already have provisions for 'Canadian content' why not leave it at that?

Canada would almost certainly not exist any more in its current form if French had not been accorded that status. It wasn't something that was done on a whim by a single politician but was something that was absolutely necessary from a national unity standpoint. It is fundamental to what Canada is as a state that French should always be respected as being equal to English in status on a national level.

Moncton has a stadium just doesn't appear to have an ownership group. Seems like a natural choice for me to have a rivalry with Halifax not to mention an easy away game for both sides.
