I dunno in my view just leave them out for this year. I mean they will have enough on their plate just trying to get things sorted to CPL action. I'm sure they would not be heartbroken to miss the tournament and be able to focus solely on CPL.
Besides the tournament has been set up fine - why mess with it.

Density is not the problem. It really doesn't matter whether you're travelling 200 km or 500 km or 700 km.
    The problem is investment.
At that level, gates aren't a serious source of revenue. So you need a team that can raise the funds via sponsorships and camps, or someone with deep pockets willing to lose money year after year.
In either situation, you need a group of serious owners - not a few, but a whole league's worth - that are in it for the long-haul.
The issue with the list of locations above (Fredericton-Sidney, Brandon et al, etc.) isn't the distances to the next game - it's who the hell in those communities is going to pony up the money to run enough teams, year after money-losing year?

D2 and relegation systems are a long ways away if it ever comes. If cpl can get to 12-14 teams that are stable and have parity your looking good. That’s getting very ahead of ourselves.
Once the league stabilizes itself through the next round of expansion [ say Ottawa, Quebec, Laval, sask). It should be looking at a means for teams to establish proper youth academy programming and reserve teams that participate in pdl.

Love it.  First Islander in the league.  I have known about this for about a week now but was told in confidence so couldn't say anything.
Super excited.  Ordered my HFX jersey during the Black Friday sale so I know whose name is going on the back.
Played against him in the first division indoor league one year and he was a terror to defend.  I remember he hammered a ball that I blocked and it left the hexagonal ball pattern on my side for a few days.  Really looking forward to seeing what he can do in the league.

I dont think its a matter of 'Naysayers'. It more common sense. Why would Media pro pay 20$ million dollars a year cash to the league then on top of that pay millions per year to produce and broadcast the games with virtually no revenue coming back to them?
I mean it is great for the league they have a company producing and streaming their games to me this is a 20 million dollar value a season because when you factor everything in I think it is reasonable that is the price tag it would cost the league if they did it themselves.
On the downside there are limitation to media pro owning the rights. Like when they would not let CBC air the final in real time. To me this is a massive opportunity lost for the league in terms of exposure an allowing casual fans (which they need) to watch their 'crown jewel'.
That aside I don't think people who think the people who state this is not a cash deal are naysayers - I would say they are realists. TBH I still think its a great deal for the league - there would be no way I would be taking on costs to produce and broadcast CPL games without some kind of revenue assurances.... Then again that may explain CPL buying every season ticket holder a free One Soccer pass this year.

Doesn't 4000 people watching soccer in a 25,000 football stadium also smack of 'minor league'?

Is love to see some of those guys in the league. However realistically I wouldn't say CPL is currently at a stage that could not afford most of those contracts. Not to mention it hard to think many MLS players would go from playing in front of 25,000 @ TFC to living in Edmonton playing in front of 2000 fans. Unless they had no other options......

Interesting side note - TFC just played in the Championship game and not one person commented on it. Is Canadian MLS popularity fading after the start of the CPL?

Most TFC fans have moved to other forums years ago.
Plus other social media has kind of sapped posters from traditional forums as well.
I do think CPL does have a small affect on MLS. At least for now. It will only get bigger as the league does.

Cant express how much I agree about 100000% with this. Why would we want a CPL team to even play at Landsdown? I would say where at al possible avoid playing in a 20,000+ grid iron football stadium.

I'm not sure why you would single out TSN for bad treatment of the league? CPL is not covered on any national sportscast. The only national organization that I would say does a decent job covering them is CBC.
The broadcasters have actually mentioned the CPL several time on TFC broadcasts. I dont think there is a co-ordinated effort by TSN and MLS to 'blackout; CPL. The reality is at this juncture the league is just not really on the national sports map yet.

Or flip it around, not making the 18 most of the time, sitting on the bench the rest in front of 25000 fans, compared to playing every week in Edmonton or Winnipeg and maybe someone taking notice of you?  I think after seeing some of DoSantos comments, we'll see a couple top CPL players switch places with some Whitecaps guys, ie Borges and Zator go up, Melvin, Levis come down.
