  1. I gotta say, I love that the Impact are in MLS and competing at a higher level, but I really miss those nights when we used to play against opposition from divisions higher than us (Voyageurs Cup or CCL). Those nights had a feeling to them that you just cant replicate. For a minute, looking at this clip, I even miss Saputo stadium 1.0.
  2. MLS and NHL arent canadian leagues though, are they? In the north american context, the french language is negligable, yet there is french content on NHL.com and MLSSOCCER.com. I think it should be proportionnaly higher on canpl.ca given the larger proportion of francophones within Canada. Im not saying it should be 50/50, but in due time, it should represent the proportion of francophones within Canada. For the moment, its almost inexistant.
  3. Cash to burn? Give me a break. It already knows the name of the league in french. Printing it on those balls was a 0$ investment that expands the reach of the league even if in the slightest way. Also, as a profit organization, it should want to expand its brand rather than restrict it.
  4. Well, Blake Smith can play as a winger as well I guess.
  5. It seems that Legault to PCF is to be announced shortly.
  6. You do understand that there is a fair deal of marketing involved, right? Sponsorship, isnt just some philantropical endeavour. You want to expand your brand. In that sense it makes perfect sense to want to geographically stretch your brand's reach by associating it to other "popular" brands.
  7. Pretty cool that its made out of wood. I guess the usage of flares will be banned.
  8. Actually, it seems as though he served as some sort of ambassador for this signing :
  9. Agreed, he was MOTM for me. Didnt put a foot wrong all game.
  10. Good signing for both parties. I'll be rooting for him.
  11. I was expecting "us" to go for someone big in the summer, but if we can get some reinforcements now it would help us keep us afloat until then. As you said, we do need to sign a few players. We only have two strikers, 3 wingers, and no attacking midfielders really (except for young prospects Choinière and Sejdic). @Moldy9 You're right. Hadn't even thought of that! ?
  12. From what I'm hearing, it could be 24 yr old Panamanian winger Omar Browne. He recently scored two goals against TFC to knock them out of CCL. There were rumours last week that IMFC were lining up a move for Columbian striker Miguel Borja. He would be a dp calibre signing however. The latter rumour made more sense when there were chances of Pato landing in Palmeiras to replace Borja. But now, I guess Browne makes more sense. We could play Okwonkwo up front.
  13. Well, Novillo wasnt there as well. And the absence was more than just Piatti, there was also Diallo missing.
  14. Came here to post that. Away games to the USA AND Canada. Yikes.
  15. Well you did not initially stipulate that your initial position on the impracticability of a team in Gatineau was only for a scenario with no Ottawa CPL team. In my opinion, IF a CPL team exists in Ottawa, and that no other teams exists, a Gatineau CPL team DOES make sense. Obviously, I'm not expecting Ottawa residents to be enthralled by the idea. But then again, it wouldn't really be "for them" primarily, would it?
  16. They're probably of that opinion, but the ownership groups have a right to go after what makes the most sense to them financially. Perhaps both ownership groups aren't interested in managing a club in Québec City.
  17. So? Still a larger demographic than the Victoria team. Plus, they have an instant exciting rivalry. Also, don't exaggerate the "nightmarish" nature of transit between Ottawa and Gatineau. Games are usually not scheduled during rush hour.
  18. Interestingly, Rollins just alluded to a second ownership group vying for the Montréal market on twitter.
  19. Well, we needed more debt at this position. Urruti or AJH got injured and we had no other pure strikers. It also opens the door to having us play with two upfront at some point. Urruti is really at his best with a partner he can "bounce off" of.
  20. I agree that bringing in teams in francophone areas will definitely help raise the coverage the league gets in french. But what can CanPL do in the mean time? The league starts in six weeks (!!), and there are plenty of franco viewers to attract, if their aim is to give global appeal to its product. I mean, maybe they're aiming at only attraction local viewership and not televising most games, at which point its their decision. Fact is, we still dont know what Mediapro's game plan is, really. But in my opinion, they should aim for mass popularity, and that includes areas where the CPL won't have a presence at launch. I think, for one, CanPL should reach out to franco journos more. What I read on twitter in this regard is pretty discouraging and might explain why most of them in Québec have painted a negative image for this league.
  21. You've basically totally derailed this topic by bringing up the relevancy of bilingualism within CPL by contrasting it to your perception that bilingualism is irrelevant within our country. I don't think this input was necessary for this discussion. This topic should be about the best way to assure CPL access to the francophone masses to the benefit of creating a truly pan-canadian league.
  22. Moncton have had some of its HQs recently acquired by other companies, but they still have a few : Major Drilling Group International Medavie Blue cross I dont think HQ is the be-all and end-all of making a team profitable. It is a well-known fact that IMFC have had a hard time attracting corporate dollars, but they can still survive in the MLS market.
  23. I havent read every post in this thread, but I haven't seen anyone support the idea that an identity would be "imposed" by anyone. If you install a team in Moncton, I'd expect the team culture to organically be, "at least", bilingual.
