As has been mentioned, as much as we want to criticize some of the blurry bits around today's major announcements, and the absence of some anticipated details regarding others, in the end it all boils down to one simple fact.
The world's largest automotive manufacturer has made a corporate decision to attach their brand to the CPL.
    Fu'k me.

I think I'm the opposite of a CPL hater, I have a couple of season seats, but I'm very much feeling this. I expected to be disappointed by this today, I figured we'd get a streaming deal but not with the service I wanted or something like that... They hyped it up like it would be a really huge announcement for the fans ... and lets be honest, it was not, it was for VW.
I get why they needed to do it but I feel like it's getting to the point where they are really taking advantage of the hardcore here. We are the ones who get the message out... We create the hype, hell, I drove from my university to Halifax for the town hall meeting for the stadium. I understand they have a strategy and for the good of the league they need to strech these out and we need to be good little soldiers, but it'd be nice not to feel lied to.
It was the overwhelming feeling here we were going to get a schedule/broadcast news, they made it seem like that. We got 1 game and a corperate sponsor. We were told we'd have kits by new year, now they might not be until April. Even the player signing press conferences have been BS, the Haber conference was hyped up like it was going to be legit, we got like six minutes of pre written speeches and then they didn't take media questions on livestream.
It's at the point now where the great momentum from all the team announcements is basically dead to me. I like the player announcements and im excited for the league to start play, but im sick of head office and their leading on, tease marketing strategy. Overwhelming ? on CanSoc twitter today. I get its a huge announcement financially, but maybe advertise it as MAJOR SPONSORSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT because at this point I don't trust anything or any deadline an owner or CPL official gives us.

Honestly though, I don't see any of that as a bad thing.  The more players talk about the league, and the more people are interested in transfer speculation, the better in general.  I can see why we wouldn't want every twitch from every agent posted here since it would clutter up the thread, but in general I think CPL will take any attention it can get.  Let get people as excited about this thing as we are!

I was actually referring to Ledgerwood, who has 69 games across 4 seasons at that level of 2. Bundesliga and a longstanding career as a professional in general, as the most extreme example of how ridiculous it was to group those players as PDLers without the context of why they were there
To be honest, I forgot Edwini-Bonsu ever had a sniff at 2. Bundesliga...and he isn't even on the team we were talking about
I do agree that there is plenty of pie-in-the-sky thinking on this board too, but I disagree that naive optimism is the equal and opposite of vapid negativity
Granted, I will admit that his previous behavior colors our interpretation of his actions. Calling anyone who wants a Canadian league a Neo-Nazi tends to leave a bitter taste in their mouths

Happy to hear the appeal is finally moving forward. I think we all expected it to happen, but having it confirmed is good news.
As a big fan of the CPL, and someone who has even cancelled his season seats for the Fury over their decision to remain in the USL over joining the CPL, I have to say that I am dismayed at the reaction of some Voyageurs here, who seem to be openly hoping for the Fury to simply fold and not play at all next year.
We are supposed to be supporters for Canadian soccer and promote whatever is best for the development of the sport across the country. Anyone thinking that the Fury folding will do that is wearing crazy blinders. Another team will pain to return to Ottawa if there is simply no soccer next year. What we should all want is a peaceful transition from USL to CPL.
I'm definitely getting the feeling that some here are putting their dislike of OSEG ahead of the well-being of soccer in Canada, and are ignoring soccer fans in Ottawa, who have been trying to make this work for a while now, even before the words CPL were taken seriously. Frankly, that is disheartening, and many people need to ask themselves why in the world they hope to see no soccer in Ottawa at all next year.
If your reason is that a CPL team will then be able to then sprout out of nowhere, then you obviously know little to nothing about the reality of the sports market in Ottawa, and you care a lot less about soccer in Canada than you give yourself credit for.

Anyone who is critical of CPL because of multiple teams by a single ownership group is being pretty silly.  If that is what it takes to get CPL up and running, then we should all be thanking him, not critical of him.
Of course, it could be the rum talking.

The salary figures were all estimates based on Rollins' early reporting (not necessarily saying he was wrong, but figures from 2015/2016 were probably just ballparks), or calculated from Clanachan's 10 year expenditure figure. I doubt we will get a real answer, but the otr chatter seems to reflect that 35k number, which to be honest isn't even that far off of the 40-60k estimate before
Whether anything changed is hard to know, but regardless I think we can expect a gradual upward trend if things continue as is.
If Calgary sells out (obviously a big if but it sounds like sales are strong so far), my rough figures of the Calgary ticket sale revenue is looking to be somewhere in the 5.5M range*, before we get into any kind of sponsorships, merch, concessions, TV money, etc.
Prudently they are probably starting low but I wouldn't think a 1+ million cap is far off if they can come out of the gate strong
*Assuming that the average ticket price in each of the "troops", "battalion", and "officers" sections are the average of the top and bottom ticket prices in their bracket.

Concacaf claims they told Canada Soccer months ago that they were not going to give the Fury another year of exceptional standing.
Which adds a whole other bizarre twist to this, especially when you remember that Pugh is on the CSA board. Was there a miscommunication between CONCACAF and the CSA? Did the CSA fail to pass along the warning to the Fury, despite Pugh's involvement? If so, was it incompetence or malice? Or did Goudie think CONCACAF was bluffing and is now trying to sell a different story to the media?
Hard to say. Sandor is saying he is getting opposite and contradictory stories from multiple sides, which to me either indicates gross incompetence at communication among all parties, or someone is getting creative with the truth

There were some high-priced players on loan from Montreal who were being paid by Montreal though, correct?  That could drag the "average" up quite substantially.
    $65k x 22 players = $1.43m, for those keeping track.

The reality is that in all of this we have really only heard the Fury's side.  And one thing I have learned over the years is that there are always 2 sides to a story, and the odds of you getting the complete picture from one biased side is pretty much nil.  The Jakubec interview was a good example of this.
Then again, according to him, I am just some moron on a message board.

While one part of me finds this hilarious, the other part of me is worried the Fury might fold over this. People rich enough to own sports teams don't like to be dictated to, the only way Goudie was going to switch was on his own terms
Whatever you think about the Fury for skipping out on CPL, they would be a loss to Canadian soccer

This is my worry, that there will be some **** CanPL sentiment in Ottawa even though this was not CanPL's decision to make.  Nobody likes to be forced into something, or to feel like a club they support got ****** over.

Sorry, Ledgerwood makes more sense.  I always thought of him as a Bundesliga 3 player and forgot he played some games in 2.  That would have been early on in his career if I remember right though.
Ledgerwood is a good player, and all of the Cavalry signings have good potential.  I'm just personally hoping there's a little more coming to get us truly excited.
Either way some of these young Canadians will far exceed our expectations in 2019 (and some not so much), and that will be awesome to watch.
