It's not worth getting into a long discussion over (and also way off topic) but since three people have now questioned my admittedly cryptic post I may as well expand a little on why I think the advent of CPL has had a positive effect on the number of Canadian players in MLS.
USA is ten times the size of Canada. MLS teams, including the Canadian ones, can quite easily fill all of their needs without ever even looking at a Canadian player. It happens all the time that very capable players get overlooked, with Leicester's Jamie Vardy being a high profile recent example. They get overlooked because nobody notices them. CPL has the NA football world noticing Canadian players. And that is why, at least in part, I think we are seeing more Canadians in MLS, although of course there are other factors. MLS teams have the budget to sign any player they want (over CPL) so it isn't likely that CPL will be taking away players that MLS want. On the contrary, MLS are now looking more closely at the available talent and liking what they see. The fact there is another league looking at these players puts them into the shop window, so to speak. Raised profile of Canadians equals more players signed. Just my theory and of course others may disagree. I don't plan on doing a study!

Unfortunate but from what we have seen from Fraser he looks like he is a capable DM and hopefully he will prove us right. The biggest hole will be Bradley’s leadership.  Someone will need to step in and assume the captaincy.

" I was born in Canada to South American immigrants. I have spent a majority of my life living in South America and definetly identify as a Latino. At the same time , every time I put on the Canadian jersey I play with so much passion and as hard as I can for my country. Canada is an amazing country and it has done so much for my family."
    End quote.
I honestly think this is what he wanted to say, just very unfortunate delivery.

The odds are not great for us either way.  We are Canada not Brazil.  However, since 86 we have never had this much talent compared to the other Concacaf nations. By 2026 our team will have been blooded by either the Hex or The Hunger Games of qualifying. Hopefully we pull off 2022 because that would put us in great position to learn from the experience and shock the world at our Cup.  The beauty of it for us is we have guaranteed games coming for the next 6 years leading up to the World Cup.  The days of playing a few friendlies in a calendar year are over.  Our team will mature and we are capable of qualifying through either route.  Maybe unlikely either way but the team will build and we have 2 all World players to work with for the first time ever?  Add in guys playing in Europe’s first divisions and MLS and we will be arguably in the mix for 2/3 in Concacaf.  It’s gonna be an amazing ride! (If screaming  at the tv for the Iceland game is any indication of what is in store!)

If people are completely honest with themselves- the gain in LB quality by having Davies move there is much greater than the loss of LW quality by having Hoilett start there instead of Davies.
With Davies at LB we are probably the 3rd or 4th strongest team in CONCACAF (I think).  With him at LW, Adekugbe at LB and Hoilett on the bench we are probably 4th or 5th best team in CONCACAF.
In terms of maximizing the team he should be our LB I think.

edit- What I’m getting at is were much stronger having Hoilett on the pitch than we are with having Adekugbe starting.

But Scott isn't an idiot and even if he felt such a thing clearly would have the understanding that stating such a thing as a leader on the team would be an idiotic thing to do.

I'm hoping this means a switch to Canada is imminent. Another LB in the MLS can't hurt us.

I can't help but think we could've got the win if Kaye and Cav were available (Healthy) to play 😓. All things considered when you factor in only Osorio, Miller, and Laryea can be considered our true #1 starters for us we actually did really well and we weren't dominated.
I understand Iceland didn't have their full team either but i'd like to think if they get their best 11 and we get ours we can actually compete.

I know we likely won't make the Hex. at this point or at least, it'll be very difficult, but I feel really optimistic about our chances going through the B Tournament as well if that's what we're forced to do.

Anyone else think Iceland played really hard for that win?  Even to the point of time wasting. The Icelandic players are not flashy but tough as nails and know how to use that to their advantage. They were knocking our players off the ball, clutching, dominant in the air and on set pieces. Its no surprise that their NT has had success vs top teams. We have to up our compete level and our set pieces.  There is a massive drop off from our A & B forwards. For vets,Tesho and Tos were very poor. Playing minnows like we did in CL over the past 2 years will not give us an accurate assessment of our players/team/coach. I say we go for it in March/June and if we fail we go down fighting. We will have plenty of games vs minnows if we fail.

I see it like this too. You want to use the subs you have but a goal felt like it was just around the corner for the entire second half.

Wow. People are still talking about Didic and Nelsen. Who knew they would be such polarizing figures...
I had an open mind about Nelsen and Didic (less so about Didic) and walk away impressed by both. Call me an optimist, but I think both of these guys did pretty good with the chances they had. The arguments against both seem to revolve around club play or level, but judging them solely on their play at this specific camp, I would say both did well and we all should be happy about that.
The other thing I want to say is regarding Borges. I like Borges and really hoped he got more of a shot this camp. I am disappointed he didn't. That said, Nelsen played just as well as Borges and had a similar impact in Barbados game 2. If Herdman decided to give more minutes to Nelsen thereafter the logical thing would be that coach rates him higher. Why assume Borges is injured, because we expect our CPL star to out perform a 17 year old TFC II player? Borges is great and has a great future (I believe), but I think the Borges hype train pumped up by the CPL is colouring some of the anti Nelsen comments...

With Ricketts and Akindele leading the line you knew it was going to be tough to score goals against a good defensive side. Ricketts definitely and Akindele less so, need chances and with our midfield they didn't create enough for them.

Dominate almost every stat except "shots on target", ugh. I see why Herdman kept yelling shoot.
That missed sitter, missed open header and offside goal really sucked. I'm disappointed by the lack of clinical finishing by us in this one, not like the chances were not there. Nature of the beast and why forwards that produce are paid the big $. My only small critiscm are that I would have likedd Borges see the field at some point and Crepeau neeeeds to do better on that goal (made up for it with nice save 2nd half), but still, otherwise no denying the team was set up to win.
The positive from this game for me was how dominate our mid 3 was and without that GK error we get clean sheet.

Also, just bloody shoot once you have an opening or a good opportunity for a shot on goal for christ sake!!!... Not pass the ball around & around in the penalty box, until it gets intercepted by the opposing team's CBs!!!

At least we are playing games.  The experience will serve us well going forward regardless of which route we need to take.  Points tonight would have been massive but we have 3 games of experience and Herdman has a better idea for our Under 23 and our depth for the CMNT.  With some strategic games in March and June and an El Salvador screw up we might make the hex yet.
