CrossCheck reacted to Macksam in CPL General
Most Canadians that say they dislike/hate soccer utilize diving as their number reason. However, that's not the real reason they dislike soccer, it's just a convenient excuse. Most dislike soccer because they just haven't properly witnessed the sport. That is all. Watching the sport at the highest, most exciting level such as a UEFA Champion's league knockout stage game generally converts even the most ardent soccer hater.
CrossCheck reacted to Unnamed Trialist in CONCACAF Nations League - Venue Discussions
This whole thread is sad, sorry to say. Probably nothing makes me more depressed by Canadians thinking of any reason possible to not get maximum sporting advantage out of a venue decision.
I want no Americans in the stands, a hostile environment, and conditions that will benefit us in terms of results, nothing else.
For me, the best spot would be a smaller stadium in a place hard to get to for the US and their fans. Or a place we could sell out with our fans before they even get to the tickets.
I frankly find arguments like players wanting to play close to where their aunts live, basically Brampton, so they can get a home meal, is totally assinine and in fact insulting to their professionality.
I like the idea of Cuba in Halifax, great proposal.

I have but I really hope you keep posting here, you are without a doubt the favourite here!
Everyone posting just has yours and Liam's back here - that's all. There may be eyes on here that don't.
He may be a consistent starter, play hard and be hard on himself but if he has an attitude he has an attitude. These things aren't mutually exclusive.
His body language was horrible on the sub in a game we were up 4-1. People are alleging he walked down the tunnel and had a tantrum until someone from the staff went and got him to sit back on the bench. Then I read comments saying he wasn't celebrating with the squad after the victory. To me that isn't cool. Throwing a tantrum when your team is WINNING 4-1 is toxic. It helps no one.
If those allegations are true, let's call it like it is. He's not Cristiano Ronaldo.
CrossCheck reacted to Kent in Herdman new head coach
So let's walk through this. Floro was terrible. We all know that. In the 2015 Gold Cup his team...
Lost to Jamaica
Tied Costa Rica
Tied El Salvador
Then under Zambrano, who we all know was amazing, in the 2017 Gold Cup his team...
Lost to Jamaica
Tied Costa Rica
And beat French Guiana 4-2
So clearly the difference between Floro (who is terrible) and Zambrano (who is a godsend) is that tying Honduras is better than tying El Salvador, plus he had that awesome 4-2 win against French Guiana.
And of course, under John Herdman, who is the worst of all (because of emails that nobody has read and a slide from a presentation that nobody saw, and a prediction that we don't know if it's right or wrong yet, and don't even get me started on friendlies) Canada just beat French Guiana 4-1, so better than the Zambrano result. But he still doesn't have that Honduras tie yet. So he should probably be fired. Amirite?

Lol, what can you you do?
Anyhow, I do not care if he doesn’t end up choosing us. 5 years ago? Probably. 3 years ago? Maybe. Today? Not a chance. The ironic thing with the CPL is that we’re going to have more defectors who choose other nations and that’s a good thing. Shows we’re producing quality, just as long as the best ones choose us lol....which they will no doubt. Anyhow, even though I would like Canada to get Akinola, the country will produce another Akinola in a few months time, and then another one after that.

Spruce Meadows would be the perfect ground to host a CanMNT match against a minnow, like French Guiana, in the future.
Grass pitch, direct flights to Europe, and the ability to sell out (hopefully) vs a smaller opponent all are positives for Spruce Meadows.
CrossCheck reacted to rob.notenboom in CPL inaugural match - #1 attended match for 2019?
Well it wasn't a good idea to post the above reaction to my statement so you either don't actually know the difference between a good idea and a bad idea or you're really consistent at following through with bad ideas.
I will try one more time to see if this can sink in. I doubt it will, but I'm persistent.
It doesn't matter if it's a good idea or a bad idea to start CanPL. It does matter if it's necessary and it absolutely is. And because it's necessary, bad idea or not, it's worth supporting. Of course, good solid critique is actually valuable in this process. But you don't offer good solid critique and this is virtually a worthless place to share it anyway. It would be more worthwhile in consultation with someone who is in a position to make decisions. Interestingly, many people I know (myself included) have managed to positively contribute to the process through offering critiques and feedback. And that wasn't because we were all out here with our rose-coloured glasses going along with everything that the league or teams have done, but because we care enough to contribute. But we've also learned a ton about the people involved along the way so we actually know more than you about what's going on. That's not a conceit, it's simply a fact.
So when someone states something like 'this is a bad idea' it's meaningless, purposeless, and only serves to add another barrier (however small and insignificant). And what this league needs is fewer barriers not more and more people to take action, not fewer.

You have been asked where you "heard" the league was in disarray - which is the foundation of many of your claims. You haven't indicated any sort of reliable source. Instead, you seem to want to antagonize the pro-CPL folks on this thread - which is about an Ottawa based CPL club after all.
If you have something of substance that backs up your claims, by all means share it. Otherwise, don't be surprised when people accept the hundreds of millions on investment made by astute business people as a more solid indication of probable success than an anonymous internet poster claiming he "heard" something.

It really sits poorly with me that they’ll ‘wait and see’ whether our new little CPL is good enough for them. I’d have loved to have the Fury in the CPL, but now I’d honestly rather they don’t join. They have no faith in the CPL, and I’d rather have another Ottawa based ownership group come in and create an Ottawa CPL club.
I’ve said this before, but I think they’ve made a big mistake rejecting us, and I frankly don’t want them any more. I hope the Fury have fun in the ignominy of a US minor league once the CPL really starts thriving, and I hope that their owners come to realize that their own lack of ambition and vision has consigned their club to irrelevance. I want another Ottawa club to arise. I want that club to become the big club in Ottawa. I want that club to play in the CPL, and I want the Fury ownership to pine for the days when they still had a chance at mattering.

Well, yes and no.
I am in three FB chat groups that represent the leadership of most supporters groups across the country.. Not more than a day goes by without someone copying and pasting one of your posts going WTF?
These people represent thousands of supporters across the country. Many of those in new supporters groups. None, save for one post here anymore, and they sure as **** won't send any of their newly minted supporters here either. Why would they?
I get why people of our generation are cynical. I really do, I bet many of us could fill a stadium with horror stories of corruption, mismanagement ect... but we need to stop living by it and being governed by it. Good **** is happening, really good **** and we should embrace it.
All of this needs to be fun. It really does or there is no point in doing any of it.
CanPL on this site is not fun.
