  1. I was on a B.C. Ferry coming back to Victoria from a soccer tournament today in the Lower Mainland. The game was being shown on the TV in the main upper deck lounge. What a site to see a bunch of kids and parents and friends who had been at a tournament able to watch Team Canada play live. All of them into it and talking about the players. I honestly never thought this day would come. Pretty awesome.
  2. If This has turned into a Daniel Imhof page, I want in! He lives in Smithers and runs a sports store and soccer academy. Nice guy. He gave my kids some cards “no, I know more about Daniel Imhof”
  3. Snobbery? No. There is good and there is bad and that game was not good. I'll be happy to point out when Canada is sucking too.
  4. I had to turn the Aruba game off. Painful. I think there is better play in the men's 35+ beer league down at the park. Canada beats Aruba 8-0
  5. Nice article from a few weeks ago. Lots of good take away here. Clearly he is pleased to be playing for Canada. interesting that Herdman is challenging him to get to the next higher league: https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/local-sport/john-herdman-finding-david-wotherspoon-23884900.amp
  6. We are such a fickle bunch here. We just had a guy walk onto the field to play for wolves against Tottenham. He has played and committed to Canada and scored goals for us. And it is already Yesterday’s news. No one gives a crap. What’s the next shiny thing. No one’s even commenting on Corbeanu’s page site anymore it’s now looking just at Jebbison. Enjoy what you have people.
  7. Latest rumours: https://www.90min.com/posts/tottenham-west-ham-monitoring-besiktas-forward-cyle-larin
  8. Why Chicago is a good option: 1. Much cooler/colder than Florida. June temps at night are about 13 c. Good for Canada 2. Florida to Chicago on a charter flight is about 2.5 hours. Suriname to Chicago (assuming no Charter) is around 16 hrs with at least one lay over 3. if there are any fans, most likely they will be for Canada 4.Good stadium and base for the next round of games assuming we win. Who knows, Maybe there’s some special arrangement and we can run the next round of games in Manitoba. Probably not but you never know 5. deep dish pizza
  9. So where is Twardek in the grand scheme of things. He is starting again today. His club is mid-pack in Polish fist division. a few years ago that equals automatic starter for Canada. Now?
  10. So Kennedy is now hurt, James is riding the bench in Greece, Korean league started and Henry was nowhere to be seen last night and Vitoria wasn’t in his last game. Eek! Those were the four CBs (that I know about) that could be possibly be playing games before qualifying and they are not getting minutes. Not good. If fitness and playing time is critical (which it is) and herdman has identified this I think we might see a real mix of players: Wotherspoon, Salomon (Israel), Aleman, Twardek are all starting and playing now. I suspect at least some of them to be called. Too bad they aren’t CBs.
  11. Thoughts on Aleman and Twerdek joining the team as depth players if Herdman worried about fitness? both starting in their leagues and playing regularly (Costa Rica and Poland respectively). leagues far stronger than the Bermuda/Caymans domestic leagues.
  12. Bermuda will play two friendlies before they play us: https://www.royalgazette.com/soccer/sport/article/20210224/bermuda-to-face-canada-at-neutral-venue-in-orlando/
  13. Fair enough re. transfermarkt but it and whoscored are the best we’ve got. Canada has not played since Jan 2020 and I think Suriname last played Nov 2019!!!
  14. And Canada: https://www.transfermarkt.us/spieler-statistik/wertvollstespieler/marktwertetop/mw/land_id/80

  16. You can look in transfermarkt at a country by all their players who have committed to the country (including the ones announced over the last week or two) based on value. They have 5 players value at over $1M USD. We have 18, 19 if you include Akinola. They are stronger than Bermuda for sure. But. again, they are not the team we should be tripping over.
  17. I am not even talking about our top 2. If you look at transfermarkt our player value versus theirs we trounce them. We are in the top 70th in the world they are in the top 140th. I know on a given day anything can happen but if we are thinking of doing anything in Concacaf and getting to the top 8 this should not be the team we are worried about. We can’t take them for granted but if this is where we fall then we are screwed as a soccer nation.
  18. And in the universe where we lose to Suriname - we should close the program. A team of euro based players means zilch. Canada could play plenty of teams that only have their domestic players and lose (most of South America actually) but against Suriname we should win. If we can’t get out of this round something is fundamentally flawed.
  19. If we can’t beat Suriname and get out of this round we should close the whole program down and start over in a decade. I coach some U10s that will be ready to go then.
  20. Aleman back in Costa Rica playing in their first division: Which begs the question: which is a stronger league: CDN Premier League or Costa Rican Premier League?
  21. The way the US' vaccine roll out is going by end of March they are probably going to be one of the better locations on the planet to host a game. Canada is too slow with vaccinations and travel restrictions and quarantine expectations will still be in place. I bet our home games are in Florida. Herdman won't want the headache of trying to sort out the ins and outs of playing in Canada. He's tried Florida, it works, that's where they will play. I also would imagine that our top players in Europe will be vaccinated (if they aren't already) by then. Can't tell me that the clubs haven't made side deals to get vaccines for their players. money talks.
  22. My two cents, and it is probably wrong but here goes: Herman has no interest in doing a friendly now. It is all psychology for him. If they were to do a friendly with a B team and lose to Serbia or the US It doesn’t set the players up for success for March. He can get them working on the systems he needs and have their headspace right by using scrimmages and training games. If they were to lose a scrimmage against the US, so maybe they play 3 30 minute periods,it is not consequential because that is not a standard game. He wants them going in to March with a huge belief that they can win everything and that might not happen with Canada B versus US B. The way it is playing out now he controls their mindset he controls the approach and when the A Team shows up against Bermuda they are set to destroy them. That’s what he wants. not going in with a reminder that the last time they played, only eight weeks earlier, they had lost a game.
  23. How about a game in Panama vs Panama and then get a nearby country like Colombia to pop up for a game too. A mini round robin. I can bring the orange slices!
  24. About 99% sure I saw him in Victoria today. Perhaps coming to Pacific Fc . . . .
