Exactly. It was my understanding David was considered top 2 at the 2000 age level but has the better long term potential. From what I’ve seen in the last few years that seems spot on. I find David to be more intellectual player who relies on more than just his physical talent to succeed. Not saying Davies can’t be the better player but it seems David is further ahead in his understanding of the game.

Yeah exactly someone had said that Jonathan was on the same tier.

hard to believe that there’s only more coming, apparently Kameron Habiboulah 03 is touted as the next Davies by the Whitecaps.

This is why I stopped lurking after years and finally joined the site.  Trying to find out who are these kids on the U-17 rosters, and who might have a shot at moving up.  Ottawa fan was saying David was as good or better than Davies right off the bat.  I still wonder how he got ID'd so young by europe (seems he had something lined up and spurned the  MLS academies).  Davies little vid was great but I am sure there could be a 5min cmnt promo vid about Davids story which would be just as interesting.

If they really are just being lazy and getting recommendations from the 3 MLS teams, couldn't they at least be just a touch less lazy and ask at least Sigma for some recommendations as well?

Fury don’t have a youth system although there is talk of getting one up and running again. Really wish the CSA would get out and scout kids as opposed to just asking the pro academies to send over a bunch of kids.

This is partly what’s wrong with soccer in this country. Protecting your turf, even if it’s a detriment of the game as a whole. Canadian soccer fans should be interested in developing an environment that allows players to further their skills and abilities. Those that look to put up barriers out of spite are a dime a dozen in this country.

The Impact have been sitting on Maxime Crépeau because he wasn't what they were looking for. They loaned him to Ottawa where he had an absolutely astounding year (watching him tear apart his teammates for their awful defending was the highlight of the season). He is now starting for Vancouver in MLS, which is leaps and bounds ahead of CanPL or USL. Ottawa fans are rightly proud of him, as are many Montréal fans. We still consider him "ours" - especially in the Franco-Ontarian community. He was a boon to the team, and the city.
Why deny Canadian talent the ability to advance, simply because they have ambitions in other leagues? Why stymie our national team's development for the branding of a league that is not the highest level of talent in the country? Most importantly, why deny the fans of <insert market here> the ability to watch a quality player at a bargain price?
Belgium is clearly a lower level than France next door, and yet tens of thousands tune in to watch. So I don't accept the argument that fans won't accept a "development" league. Especially in markets that MLS is not considering.
CanPL is ALWAYS going to be lower quality than MLS, unless Canada's urban markets suddenly get super rich and populaed, attract 15k - 20k fans per game, in 20+ cities, and bring in Drogba-Rooney-Kaka level talent, so why not accept our unique market position and work with what is available?
I don't get the "if you're not with us, you're against us" mentality of this board regarding MLS and the Fury... it's a loan, not a vassalization or declaration of subservience.

I streamed the game today and David was not playing forward.  He was more of an attacking mid, playing behind the forwards although he was in the box at times when Gent had free kicks and corners. When the other team was attacking, David tracked as far back as his own penalty area.  His decision making is really impressive.  In the midfield, he sees options as he gets ready to receive a ball and just makes the play.
Pretty telling that in a close 2-1 game (3rd goal was in extra time), David wasn't subbed defensively.

At what point do we consider playing with 2 strikers with the National team. Cav and David would be leathal.
I would suggest playing a 442 against a higher quality team with hoilett and Davies on the wings. Cav and David up front, as we know both still can defend.

It was a good sign when the Nova Scotia youth leagues announced that they would not be scheduling games when the Wanderers are playing, so soccer people can more easily go to the games. Would be a massive change in mindset to see that sort of thing happening in Ontario.

Yup that has been a problem forever it seems with local youth soccer clubs and their relationship with their local pro club in the area. This was a problem I remember even as far back as the old CSL , where it seemed like some people running these youth clubs never saw or wanted any type of connection to the pro club. Hopefully this is changing and the mentality is changing because in the end for the young players who have aspirations and dreams of going on to play at higher levels playing for the local pro club should be what they should be striving for .

When Ottawa and Edmonton were in the NASL there were a few players that held part time jobs to help make ends meet. Hope the CPL will be able to pay players enough that they can focus solely on playing soccer.

Never mind trying to find mid-sized markets, I think the two biggest issues with the growth of the CPL is finding suitable stadiums and cost of travel.  Generally any park/stadium that is out there which could be expanded is owned by a municipality/university and even then, it'll be lucky to hold 1,000 people and can't be expanded without significant investment by the taxpayer or a CPL owner.  And then there's travel costs: it's often much cheaper to fly to Florida from Ontario/Quebec than from Ontario/Quebec to Saskatchewan.

The subtext to this is whether they are in a strong enough position to spurn interest from MLS I/Os. It was a huge struggle for them to put 7 franchises together. If they had 10 right now with three MLS affiliates on board they would be in much better shape to weather the coming storm once aspiration is replaced with reality and some franchises no doubt will start to do well in an 86ers sort of way, while others start to consistently struggle because somebody inevitably has to finish bottom of the standings and some of the cities are not as strong as some of the others in terms of having a local soccer scene to draw players from that are ready to step in and contribute.
The original CSL made a similar decision to exclude what would probably have been stable franchises by being determined to exclude ethnic team names. If the pre-existing Toronto Italia (previous pro level history in the ECPSL) and Toronto Croatia (previous pro level history in the NASL and CPSL) NSL franchises had been on board as they wanted to be rather than the North York Rockets it's far from impossible that the CSL could have found a way to make it through the recession of the early 90s by having a solid core of franchises in the Quebec-Windsor corridor plus Winnipeg and Vancouver and lived to fight another day when soccer in North America started to grow stronger again after the 1994 World Cup. Not saying history has to repeat itself but it definitely would be good to see more of a spirit of inclusive compromise this time around, because it's absence and the squabbling over Ottawa definitely provides a feeling of deja vu.
As more of an aside than anything else, what people seem to forget about the CSL era is that it followed on the footsteps of the original NASL era when large crowds with plenty of Joe Average types (for example, Tulsa wasn't exactly renowned as a soccer hotbed before the Roughnecks arrived) did show up to watch what was from Pele's arrival onwards a very high quality league. Attempts in its aftermath in both the US and Canada to try to draw fans with a significantly lower quality entertainment product generally failed dismally, because Joe Average does notice the difference. The CSL also launched in an era when the post-WWII immigration wave in a Canadian context had little or no access to soccer in broadcasting terms and were still showing up in large enough numbers to sustain what were effectively semi-pro clubs not just in an NSL context in Toronto but in a lot of other cities as well where amateur status was officially retained as the provincial cups and national championship were viewed as the big prize. For a variety of reasons the latent fanbase for the sport that was definitely out there at the time didn't show up for the CSL. Nothing should ever be taken for granted in that regard until loyalties to teams become deeply ingrained after multiple generations.

I think most who voted to join this unknown league didn’t fully understand how shady the CPL and CONCACAF were and voted with their hearts not their minds. As the season progresses I can see more Fury fans realizing the league they are in is stable and of a higher quality. IF the CPL comes begging maybe the Fury should consider allowing the CPL to make some changes to the way they do things; then they may have to make a decision. Maybe.
