So couple comments on the more recent posts.

As far as which side, there was still snow on the other side, and while I feel soccer should start up in May and end in October in Canada, you play the hand you are dealt. At least they have a stadium that can accommodate both sides, and has turf immune to the weather.

Second, lets be honest here guys. Between Investors group field and Tim Hortons Field, it's wishful thinking that there aren't going to be games where the stands don't look good. Heck, there are "sellouts" of Ti-Cat games and TFC games where the stands don't good with attendances apparently in the 20,000+ range.

Ok, I’ll bite on this one.  What are you trying to prove here?
Does that mean when the Forge (for example) plays a home game and the attendance is announced as 9,000 that I can question its legitimacy by posting a photo with tons of empty seats at the kickoff of the second half?

Which is part of the reason why the rebirth of the NASL started in the first place. Owners were tired of not having any control, started the Team Owners Association, then eventually broke away to form the NASL.
To assume that Ottawa could just sell their USL franchise rights and start a 'new' team in CPL is too simplistic. USL would have to approve the sale, then they would have to approve the relocation. Same thing happens in the NHL and NFL. Except in those scenarios it is other owners voting. In the USL scenario, it is Nurock deciding. Why would Nurock allow a relocation when they could just sell another expansion team instead?

Judging by what you see on Ticketmaster on single ticket seat availability, things are going well in Halifax, Hamilton and Edmonton, but Winnipeg, Calgary, Victoria and York 9 are still question marks that become increasingly large in that order, so for anybody looking at it rationally rather than with unconditional blind faith, it's still too early to draw firm conclusions on whether CanPL is likely to hang in there on the medium to long term. Season ticket renewal rates will be pivotal even in the cities that have done well in that context for year one.
As things stand at the moment there are both positive and negative early signs available depending on what you choose to focus on. When the most likely eighth franchise appears to be Saskatoon, it's also difficult and also arguably unfair to make comparisons with the USL Championship. The market sizes involved if they expand out to 16 or so by 2026 are going be more like the non-MLS B team cities in USL 1, because of the much smaller total national population involved in Canada relative to the United States.

From a purely business standpoint, I don't think OSEG is much further ahead today in making a potential move to the CPL than they were a year ago.  Obviously deals have been signed with sponsors for what seems like a good amount of money, but a ball has yet to be kicked and they probably have questions/concerns about how all the markets will do in year 2 and 3.
Having said that, it doesn't excuse a few of the past proclamations about the CPL.  They should have just kept it in house.

That's the thing - I'm getting the feeling that the Fury's decision to stay in USL this year was a business decision, but the CPL has taken it personally, which has led to nonconstructive things being said. I just hope we're not going to see Canadian Soccer politics rear its ugly head again. I thought we were over that crap.

In addition to John Pugh who ran the Fury as a PDL team for many years, one of the main OSEG owners from the outset was Bill Shenkman who also owned a significant portion of a lower division English club called Millwall prior to the launch of the Fury NASL franchise, so don't think that's entirely accurate.
In reality I never questioned that a league was potentially in the works given the moratorium on further expansion in USSF leagues that was imposed by the CSA expressly for that purpose or that there were some CFL owners potentially involved given Bob Young had promised a pro soccer legacy where the Pan Am Games funding for THF was concerned. What I questioned was that it was something that the CFL were doing collectively and that there would be a league launched playing its games mainly in CFL stadia that would rival MLS in some meaningful way. That always looked like a fantasy scenario in the absence of some 2026 solo hosting scenario and even then it was far-fetched. A low budget league focusing mainly on developing young Canadian players rather than paying relatively high salaries to established CMNT players and big name imports is a much more sensible scenario than what used to be peddled by certain bloggers and podcasters.

What I love most about David is that he doesn’t seem the ego-type, miffed that Davies is getting the hype.... he’s just going out and killing it himself and letting his play demand attention!  It is so refreshing!

Eugene doesn’t have the cash to buy them. Nor does he have the money to operate them. He could take money out of the Sens to do it but they are his sole source of income. He can barely make his debt/interest payments.
Plus his good will is long gone. Nobody at the city would give him anything more than a free lunch, so money for a stadium/field is out of the question. And fans can’t stand him.

The marriage between Fury and CPL will happen, it’s just a matter of time. Whatever your thoughts on OSEG JDG or the Fury and their decision, they will not compare to the nightmare Eugene would bring to the team, the city and the league. Absolutely doomed to fail on every angle of that were to happen.
We don’t have to worry about an AFJ.

I would personally disagree.  I’d think I’d have to strongly think about not buying tickets if he owned a CPL team in Ottawa.

I think people who have only seen David play for Canada or highlights of his goals don't appreciate how good a distributor he is.  He's a very positive player and  decisive when he receives the ball, unlike some players who've never met a back pass they didn't like.
I think David is best with the ball when he has attackers in front of him so an ideal formation would be Cav as  sole target man and supported by wingers when Canada is attacking, something like a 3-5-1-1 formation.

What reasonable person expected the majority of CDN USL players,  TFC 2 players (with a direct pathway to TFC) and players already on MLS rosters to jump to the CPL??  You cant just make **** up and then use that as justification to say that things havnt gone smoothly.  Only an idiot would think that a new league filling out its rosters would go smoothly.  Or that every player in NA would leave whatever situation they were in the go to the new league.  Saying that kind of stuff is the backhanded unintentional/very intentional slights on the CPL that nobody wants to hear.
And as far as Ottawa goes, I hope they do well, I'll watch them on youtube (along with other USL CDNs) and eventually I hope the CPL does well and they join.  What I dislike is when i hear Fury mouthpieces (not you ottawafan,), guys that should know better, slag CDN players and teams (Ivory and rumor has it even Deguzman).  If its really just we'll be prudent, wait and see, dont take an active part in knocking it down before they have even played a game.  People are pissed because the Fury joining could have been a real boost to the league and instead it was just another example of infighting f*ckin up soccer in canada.

I get that. But my guess is if you are posting on this site you are genially invested in the development of the game in Canada, more so than the average fan or soccer parent. Instead of a rising tide line of thinking there’s more of a F them let’s crap on them any chance we get mentality. It’s counterproductive and serves no purpose other than internet trolling. Why can’t you wish both the CPL and the Fury are successful because that’s what’s going to further Canadian soccer players?

It's a very toxic atmosphere in Ottawa as far as the local clubs go. The two biggest clubs have effectively hijacked the district and are trying to cause problems for any program they see as a threat.  In an effort to get the clubs on board and help support the Fury, they had to scrap their academy - there was no actual poaching going on, but certain people at the local clubs saw that as taking food from their children's mouths.  One club still refuses to help promote the Fury out of spite for when they used to operate teams in the Super Y League.
Something like what Edmonton is doing might work better.  But there are a couple of really disgusting people involved in the local youth scene.

And I’ve stated I want to see the CPL succeed and I think the rightful home for the Fury is in the CPL. But their wait and see approach is partly about experience with those involved with the league and a financial one. They are doing their due diligence and rightfully so. As a business are they not entitled to look out for their interests as well?
