It’s funny you got me thinking about a former national team player way back in the day Brian Budd when you mentioned best athlete in Canada. Brian played in the old NASL in the late 1970’s. A decent player mainly a forward . The NASL in the late 1970’s was almost comparable to the present day MLS more or less , well maybe not quite but pretty close. Anyways the American national network ABC had a very popular show that they ran for a few weeks each summer. Where they invited some of the best players from all the major American leagues to participate in different types of made up sports that each player participated in. I think each player had to compete in like 6 different competitions and would score a certain amount of points on  each competition based on where they placed.  Well Brian Budd going against some of the top players from most of the major league sports in the US won the whole competition 4 years in a row . ABC basically stopped inviting him back after he won the 4th. time in a row , mainly because he was a soccer player a sport that back then was not as popular in the US as it is today lol and really hardly any American sports fan even knew who Brian Budd was lol. But ya lol talking about the best athlete in Canada got me thinking about Brian who back in the day was probably one of Canada’s best athletes and North America as well . Good old Brian Budd past away a few years ago but was a decent Canadian soccer player but a great athlete at that!

I have a team photo by my desk with his nephew in it. Just to be clear that I am not some super creepy fan of Kevin and his extended family, his nephew was on the last boys' team I coached, along with my son.

I hear you, but he is only 1 player...can we not make a similar argument for JDG2?
We had good momentum and a young Hoilett starring for Blackburn in the EPL would have followed suit. His brother was even a star on our team. Is his name censored?
Where do you draw the line, you know?
Unpopular opinion, but censoring his name (and only his name) just comes off as immature and insecure. Does he really deserve such status?
Plus he wasn't a dynamic attacking player who grabbed the imagination like Davies. I seriously question whether he would have had a Davies-level impact on soccer in Canada.
Even JDG2 was arguably more important, because despite playing for smaller clubs, he was more attacking player, which Canada sorely lacked until recently. Plus his brother played on the team, so it was more of a slap to the face.
We don't have to celebrate these guys or anything, but I am just not down with the butt-hurt attitude towards them. We are better than that.
And again, Davies and David make me forget all about these guys, honestly. To each their own though, seems like I am in the minority.

That's a bit harsh. Comments on his playing aside, he did say a lot of the family had moved south so may have not had relatives to visit. Also, his dad and mom went their separate ways when Landon was quite young so visiting him would be hard enough, let alone his Dad Tim's home town, which Tim left when he was a young man. His dad is an alright guy. Spoke to him several times back in the early 2000's. Proud of his son and liked to say that Landon played soccer like a hockey player.

I had a laugh listening to the ass hats on Cdn sports radio, so desperate for sports news they had a phone interview with a German sports journalist and asked him how the players in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 1 were reacting.
BTW, confirmed a short time ago that things get going next Friday May 15th.

Reza was fine and well last time I saw him; busy with family and work like many of the original V's. You hit the nail on the head in saying that the Voyageurs were originally created in an attempt to get people out to cheer for Canada at home games. Everything else came from that. It was always a group thing, a group of like-minded people who wanted our teams to succeed and feel the support from their ardent fans. That is precisely what this thread is about from my point of view. The loss of the voice of the many. The loss of that feeling that all were a part of a bigger thing and could actually make a difference with our collective efforts. The various incarnations of the V's forum were the places where we could spread knowledge of Canadian players and teams, plan to make home games more pro-Canadian, take initiatives to grow support for our teams and players. This forum is not such a place IMHO.

Judge, jury and executioner all rolled into one. Well done 'neuker'.  I don't post very much on this site but was very heavily involved in previous incarnations.  We've had many nut bags on the various forums that have come and gone, but I don't really recall overt racism being an issue. And to state that the decline of this forum is entirely down to ' those who express their intolerant views of the world and those who allow them to do so' is very much off the mark.
This thread had its origin with the questions who are the mod(s) who banned Lofty and why was the action taken.

Wiping out a couple of years of Valour posts seems like an insanely heavy handed response.  A 'not cool man' response would have been sufficient. A pandemic doesn't mean the end of free speech. Censored for the 'c' word? It sure as **** ain't the Flin Flon flu. I don't think it is appropriate for a politician or public figure to refer to the flu that way but this seems an over the top reaction on a soccer forum. Whereas I think the politician who went after Canada's Dr Tam is a racist (other) c-word, I don't see any WHO directives on renaming the Spanish flu or the Ebola virus which are both very ethnically/geographically specific.

Don't quit your day job dude as humour doesn't seem your strong suit. The poster who was banned straight up called me a wanker in a post. That was a direct violation of the forum rules on this site but people get heated sometimes and what he said isn't going to make me any less inclined to ***** and moan about praising the Yanks on a Cdn soccer supporters forum.  Also I am no Brit so the term doesn't really get under my skin. He went so far as to tell me to go back to my circle jerk behaviour which would have led to spittin chiclets on the ice 50 years ago, but this is a soccer forum and banter is banter so you know, at the end of the day, I wasn't really hurt.
Now I must say I'm much more a mathematician than an English major, but frankly I don't see a whole hell of a lot of difference between your 4 word description and that 'unholy 2 word abomination' that prompted this ban.
On the other hand, your Klu Klux Klan remark is quite a racist statement which is really really over the top branding of his alleged trangression in describing this flu. Ironically, it also brought to mind how the Chinese government treat the Wiegers; today, not 60 years ago.
