Honestly, guys. We had Thanksgiving dinner organized at our house for Saturday weeks ago. Sheesh. Herdman would not be impressed with your advanced scouting.

There’s no question that Jonathan is snake-bitten and he has to score that PK, but it’s hard to make a case for yourself when you get no service. I counted 3-4 balls it total in the whole first half that were intended for him. It seems like Lille players only pass the ball as a last resort a lot of the time. No cohesion.

In your example Obinna you describe Nigerian fans (whether or not they be Nigerian) supporting Nigeria wearing Nigerian tribal dress.
Now imagine a Japanese or a Swedish team that adopts a black man's face as their logo (because black men represent power and strength) and then bastardizes a version of tribal costume to wear to games. It's different. Russian supporters wearing bastardized red, white and blue headdresses to support Russia is not the same as wearing Russian costumes to support Russia.
In every FN culture I know of (hundreds in Canada alone) permission is VERY important. You need permission to sing a particular song, to tell a particular story, to visit someone else's land and so on.
I'm a proud Mohawk (also British and Black incidentally) and a proud Canadian, but damn it's confusing and conflicted at times. I'm very jealous of New Zealand where (generally) the European and Maori really seem to get each other. Took hard work to get there though from what I understand. Hope we get there eventually.

As a FN guy I disagree strongly. Regardless of how respectful the intent might be, you shouldn't use someone's else's culture as a "look" or a costume or a logo. Imagine if it were the picture of a stereotypical Nigerian or Dutch guy. It doesn't keep me up at night, but I wouldn't hope most people would have more imagination and understanding. I noticed all the headdresses at the World Cup this summer in various countries' colours as well and thought dear God, this had better not happen in 2026. It would be so embarrassing.
Anyways, I couldn't say nothing in response, but really this topic is better left to Macksam's other thread than here.

I would normally defer to your experience, UT, but I disagree with you here.  I thought given who he had, those were wily subs.  I personally have more faith in Metcalfe and would have trusted him earlier, but I think MDS didn't see guys on the bench he could trust to hold the fort for 30 mins and didn't want to take off the few threats on the field in case Portland tied it up.  Once it was closer to 90, though, separating out the two subs a couple of minutes apart definitely stretched out and slowed down the extra time, and gave everyone a needed breather in the 5 added minutes.  I thought that was exactly the point of those subs. (And trust me, I usually do not like MDS' choices)
If I thought that Bair would dig hard and press Zuparic and Mabiala for the last two or three minutes, I would have made a third stoppage time sub for Cava as well.  Unfortunately, Bair seems too lopey and dopey to me for that, and COQ didn't shake that view.  Even defending a tired Cava > a fresh Bair.

Yeah, sadly as a PFC fan I have to agree with you. Campbell and Verhoeven at least have played (and not played) themselves out of contention, even despite Terran’s nice consolation goal.

On the other hand, you can make a bunch of nice starting 11s from this list, even without the players that might be up with the senior team, like Cornelius and others. How nice is that?

Maybe true, but that sentiment, expressed that way, isn’t super helpful in the whole “having a reasoned conversation in the public sphere” thing, anymore than ridiculing people for taking it.

Edit: now if you had said “people who won’t take the vaccine based on Nicki Minaj’s opinion as opposed to the entire world’s scientific establishment are fucking idiots” then I would be right there with you.

    Here’s the thing:
What makes something criminal or not is not inherent to the action. A (hopefully) civil society, through its governance structures decides that an individual’s right to a particular action is trumped by its effects and consequences on society at large. Driving drunk is criminal only because we’ve already had and settled that conversation in the public sphere. We are currently debating the personal vs public, rights vs responsibilities aspects of vaccines live and ongoing. No one is necessarily suggesting that vaccines would become mandatory in the same sense that driving sober(ish) is mandatory, but we ARE having that conversation, and as a society that is within the realm of possibility. What many people are reacting to is the extreme libertarianism on the part of some, which is sadly not well-informed philosophical libertarianism, at least in my opinion.

costarg’s frustration is completely understandable, and yet, canada123’s point is also true that we’re not going to broadly criminalize decision-making for its “intelligence”
We will, though, continue to criminalize specific actions and we will continue to criticize poor or selfish choices in the public sphere. I seriously doubt that non-vaccination ever rises to the point that we criminalize it and that’s a good thing.   But along the way we will sure criticize the fuck out of those that don’t have really good and sound reasons to resist it other than “you can’t make me” or “everyone else is lying to you because the internet told me so”.   Our civil society depends on that.

Unless he has a really solid and reasoned justification for not getting vaxxed that we don’t know about, and which he has no obligation to share with us.

But if he is not vaxxed because “ReaSoNs”, yes, I would agree, selfish asshole.  But we don’t know, so… (shrugs shoulders).

And not only that, but choices have consequences for more than just the person making them. “YoU cAn’t teLL mE nOt to driVe dRunK.. I have lots of experience and I know my body best”.

/sarcasm for those that weren’t sure.

Getting really tired of the “don’t tell me what I can and can’t do” mantra. It’s juvenile.
