Unpopular opinion.  I think you start Cav over Larin for the Haiti games.

Think they underestimated the quality of the MLS contingent but still a job to do here. Was it Ecuador comfortable qualification was thrown away against in the Gold Cup many years ago with two late goals conceded?

My feed just showed it in frame-by-frame. It wasn't even close to being in. I'm not even sure much of the ball was actually on the line, never mind being 100% over the line.

Have been critical of OneSoccer in the past but got to hand it to them. Tonight the feed is impeccable. Keep this up and I will happily continue to subscribe.

Wotherspoon or MAK need to come in for Osorio relatively quickly IMO

I think Laryea will be LB and Johnston on the right, a three in the middle of Oso, Piette and Eustaqio and Davies, Larin and David an enterprising front 3!

Don't really expect to see him tonight, but Hoilett on the bench is good to see.

I recognize him from watching some MLS games.  I don't recall watching a game with him reffing where I was frustrated with the officiating, so that is a good sign.

As for the actual topic of this thread, honestly it sounds silly but I've been l a lot less nervous since the Aruba match. I know beating Aruba has nothing to do with beating Suriname, but there was something about subbing on David, Davies, and Larin and having them just dominate that put me at ease. Suriname will be tough, but we've got some great talent and as has been mentioned, they are battle tested with their clubs.
I reserve the right to get more nervous when the game gets closer though.

The hyping of Suriname has got to me, I'll admit. I'll feeling it. But the nerves are just because it's a one-off and because it's been such a long build up. We've got several players with experience winning things now, we're a different animal and we haven't yet had to show it. Get them chasing the ball, strength in attack, don't let them manage the game, and we should be good.

I can’t see Suriname pressing hard to win back and keep the ball because we would respond in kind and a track meet favours our younger and deeper side. They will trust in their experienced defenders and try to counter quickly without over committing, knowing that when they sit back we will have to try to pick the lock. They don’t want to get into a counter attack track meet either, though.  They don’t want Davies etc running at them with room to build up speed. They will sit back and absorb and try to counter in a way that doesn’t leave them exposed. It’s going to be like a chess match where both sides know ahead of time exactly what moves are coming. I’m confident but nervous and I know I’m not alone...

I'm trying to put my historic pessimism about Canada aside. I first got into soccer in the run up to the 8-1 Honduras game. I've been jaded ever since.

This squad we have now though... they're different. As someone else in this thread stated, they're winners. They're coming off of some major career highs and should be brimming with confidence. We as a nation might carry some baggage from the past, but these players don't.

They're a superior side and Herdman is a good coach. We have all the pieces. I think we can pull it off. 2-0 Canada is my prediction!

Suriname is a much greater threat as its only 1 game, they are a well balanced and professional squad. On paper they have more quality than Honduras and Panama with players featuring in squads from the Bundesliga, Turkey and Eredivisie. While the latter are mostly domestic and MLS these days. Over 2 games Canada is heavy favorites against any of these opponents but a one off at a neutral venue is nerve wracking.
Can take some comfort in the fact that they haven't looked all that dominant, they beat Bermuda by a good margin but were gifted goals and converted on all their few chances. Against Bermuda Canada had 26 shots  while Suriname had 10ish while playing in front of a home crowd against a weaker Bermuda squad.
Suriname hasn't shown anything like what Canada flexed when they subbed on Davies, David and Larin. It was dominance where the opposition couldn't get the ball passed half.

I have been watching match previews on YouTube and JD (iMAXit Football) has been a great resource to get up to speed on Suriname. He's obviously in favor of Suriname, being a Jamaican living in the Netherlands, and he tries to be fair in my estimation, but I can't shake off the feeling he's underestimating our less-celebrated players.
For example, he seemed to be only marginally aware of Buchanan about a week ago, but as things progressed and the Aruba game came and went, he now seems to drop his name a little more.
Here's another example, in a combined starting 11 video he did with Josh over at JJD TV (another good channel on YouTube btw - wonder if he posts here), he ranked Dankerlui over Laryea in terms of right backs, without question. Now to be fair, Dankerlui from the little I have seen is a solid, modern, technical fullback, who is playing in the Eredivisie, but Laryea has double his transfer value (both are similar in age). I realize transfermarkt is not everything, but a less biased eye would call it a coin flip. I would like to think so, anyways. Maybe I am just biased though for Laryea.
And all that said, there is a legitimate case for Johnston over Laryea anyways at right back, who JD over at iMAXit Football has not mentioned once, and I have watched hours of this guy's content at this stage.
It is this kind of ignorance about our players (not trying to be mean when I say that) that gives me hope that we handle Suriname tomorrow.
Although he admits we are slight favorites, JD thinks it's going to be 2-1 Suriname. This is on the basis that we are a team of average players with 3/4 stars, while they are a well balanced team of veteran players who are schooled in the same Dutch fashion, and since it's a team game the Suriname collective may just win out.
But in my mind our average players (MLS) are at least comparable to their average players (Eredivisie/Europe), but to him (and perhaps Suriname fans) Eredivisie>MLS so therefore Suriname's collective is superior, and I just don't buy that. We have a DP striker coming off the bench for gods sake.
Maybe I am just biased, but I am trying to be fair and those are my thoughts around it.

Goal difference is irrelevant if they have more points than us. They could have won every game 1-0, if they have 12 points and we have 9, they would go through even if they were +4 and we were +50. Goal difference only matters if we're tied on points.

Watched the full Suriname vs Bermuda game. Strange strategy but Bermuda pretty much pressed all game long while Suriname countered to the wings. Suriname pretty much scored on every chance they got. Its strange, wasn't a dominant 6-0 win.  More like Bermuda gave up 4 goals by pressing up field at a terrible or with crazy backline errors.

Eustaquio was consensus one of the best passers in Liga Nos... there are plenty of better things to worry about than our playmaking.
