There are likely be more hondurans who live in Houston than in San Pedro Sula.     Looking at the crowd in last night’s Hon-Qatar game, there werent many empty seats.   You could probably say the same for :
Costa ricans in the north east of the US (eg.: New Jersey).
Same for El Salvadorans living in the US.
For Mexico, there were stories years ago that they wanted to play more games in Los Angeles but were rebuffed by the USSF.   Given that the revenues would be in US dollars when playing in the US and that the standard of living and disposable incomes of mexican americans is higher than in mexico.  I’ll say,  There would be more money to be made by the Mexican FA if they played all their international games in Los Angeles

The fan base (with money) for these central american teams is in the US.  Thats why the US is the the only place that can host the gold cup.  And the only place that will ever host the GC.

Orlando has a heavy schedule with matches on  this Thursday, Sunday and next Friday. I don't think they would be too keen on losing their starting CF so that he can ride the bench for Canada.
Its going to be either a young player that's not vital to their team coming in for the experience, or no one.

Or maybe he means the "Championship". That seems more likely. I'd love to see him in Germany, frankly. I feel the Germans, on a whole, do a better job of developing young players.
Must admit I am blown away by how rapidly Tajon's has risen as a footballer. Sure, he's not as quick as Davies, and maybe not as crafty, but he might already be better than Phonzie defensively, and he might be a smarter baller, too.  He simply does not look scared out there, ghosts defenders at will, and works his ass off.  We've had a handful of remarkable revelations this past year or so, including The Stache, Tajon and Kennedy, even Johnston. One could almost get ridiculously optimistic for the future of our national team if one wasn't careful.

Not a big fan of this.  This just smacks of being too cute and thinking too far ahead.  We can't control how the Americans are going to be in September.  For all we know, they could go down to El Salvador, get embarrassed on Sept. 2nd and be out for blood no matter who they are playing.  I'm betting that at least 80% of the starting 11 in September will be different than the starting 11 we play on Sunday.
If you're looking for a silver lining for David and Davies and Eustaquio not playing, then fine.  There you go.  But there should be nothing stopping us from putting our best players available out on the pitch.  A good showing against the US team in a tournament like this might catch the eye of a scout or two, which would only be good for the program.
    Always play to win.

I have always thought Wheeler was a decent commentator until this game. Went off for legitimately 10 minutes about how to pronounce guys names rather than actually call the game.

The only reason not to name a replacement to the roster would be that Herdman somehow believes Davies will be fit in time to return to the squad for the knockout phase.

Overall the team now looks much closer to what I thought it was going to look like (e.g. Euro-lite) prior to all this talk of bringing our strongest team possible. The exceptions were that I didn't think we'd have Larin or Eustaquio and possibly not Vitoria either. If you had told me that this was going to be the roster a couple of weeks ago I would have been pleasantly surprised with it (except of course for the going one player short of the 23), but now given that it's pretty much a B+ team at best (with five starters & at least another 3 players, if not five that would normally be in the overall 23 man roster missing), it feels a bit disappointing because expectations had been raised in the interim. In any event, still excited for the tourney and have adjusted my expectations accordingly.

There are probably various iterations of this thread, but I thought I would necro one rather that start anew.  Going back through the thread...
2014 - Aird, Boakai, Hamilton, Petrasso and Roberts were some of the hot takes.
2015 - Larin, Henry, Piette and Oso seemed to lead the new additions, with some love for Aleman.  Our predictive powers were fairly sharp that year.
2016 - Davies, Tabla and some guy named Tomori the clear consensus top 3.
2017 to 2019 - we added a couple of Liams (Millar and Fraser - with the former generating the most excitement), with a few noting Okello.
Lots of of other mentions throughout the thread, but I noted the ones that grabbed the most attention.
Aside from a little walk down memory lane, it is interesting to see who made it to bigger clubs and impacted the Nats.  Going forward, I am curious about people’s top 5-10 prospects.  And for me these are young players (20 and under, so no Cornelius or Millar) who haven’t “made it” yet (so no David or Davies).  I am including undecided duals but haven’t included any keepers because I have no real baseline for comparison.
    —————————
Some of the guys with some serious buzz (not in ranked order):
    - Corbeanu (19)
    - Dias (18)
    - Flores (17)
    - Marshall-Rutty (16)
    - Nelson (18)
    - Priso (18)
    - Okello (20 - I still have faith in him)
It is interesting to note that the 2 seemingly conflicted duals play abroad, whereas the ones playing domestically seem to be more locked into the Canadian stream (though many may not be dual-eligible).
I know I am omitting some, but these are the guys I will be paying the most attention to based (some) on what I have seen and (more) the hype that I have read.
So what is your top 5-7?

I bet Cava's got all his suitcases already packed and ready to go at a moment's notice.  He and Crepeau and perhaps Guiterrez are ready to blow Dodge for as long as it takes while the Caps' slow motion train wreck season continues.

Either of Flores or Jebbison would be amazing. I want to believe that they both could be joining. Jebbison is more likely for me, I think he's further off the England senior team than Flores is from Mexico's. Mexicans seem to want Flores cap tied now or soon and there is worry now that he's on Canada's provisional squad. It would be a big loss for them and a huge gain for us. Jebbison playing for England is more unlikely and he probably knows that, so is more likely to join Canada if he wants to play senior international tournaments any time soon.
My only hope with Flores is that Herdman is using every ounce of his motivational skills to get Flores to buy in to the fact that he could be a main man in Canada's golden revolution and that he can be one of the core of very talented players to turn the sport around in this country. That's pretty exciting for a young kid who grew up here, so hopefully Herdman can tap into that, which I'm sure is what he's doing.

I agree with all of the people here who see the difficulty in choosing the GC team. It is a fine balance to form a squad to win, to cap tie, to create chemistry, and to reflect higher level club minutes. For what it is worth, here is my 23.
Keeper - Crepeau, Pantemis, St. Clair
Defenders - Gutierrez, Miller, Sturing, Johnston, Henry, Kennedy, Brault Guillard
Midfielders - Flores, Wotherspoon Kaye, Osorio, H. Paton, Laryea, Davies, Piette
Forwards - Akinola, Cavallini, Buchanon, Akindele, Pasher
    THOUGHTS:
I presume that Davies is included as a kind of inducement to a couple of duals as well as for his quality.
Pasher gives a better left wing option than Millar at this time and he scores.
    Akinola gets capped, I hope.
If Kennedy needs a rest, then one of Vitoria or Waterman (?) comes in.
Jebbison is a real tempation if he is willing. Is he too big of a risk to exclude?
Does Hoillet settle his club situation before WCQ?
Do we take a look at H. Paton and cap him if he shows well at camp, or do we go conservative with one of Fraser or Chapman instead?
Does Corbeanu get a spot at the expense of the in-form Akindele?
Cavallini is bound to receive more support form the CMNT midfield than he has at VWFC!
Is it time to cap Flores and bank on the future?
Do we fit in Baldisimo at this time?
**I cannot see much of a case for any other player on the 60 list at this time, the foursome of Larin, David, and Eustaquio notwithstanding. All four had injuries last season!
Certainly, we have lots of questions and options which are riches for Herdman. Let's hope that he does not succumb to choosing undeserving players for some feel good reason. This GC team needs to be strong and include attractive duals, ready to play prospects, and deserving veterans.

Me too. I am really starting to buy the idea that this team is different mentally from the teams of the past. A combination of talent levels we've never seen before, players too young to know any better, and dare I say it, Herdman-speak.
Let's win the fucking thing, why not?

If I’m mitrovic, I’m telling my dad to stop. He’s 18 still, sometimes it takes time. Look at Kennedy who didn’t play for Canada at any level until this month at age 24! Imagine 6 years ago if Ian started going off on the csa then?

Rotation - we’re going to need lots of it. Neither arfield or hutch will be playing all three matches in the window. Maybe they each start one and are options of bench for other two. Eustaqiuo, Osorio and Mak start two etc
we’re not going to be playing the absolute best 11 for every match. We need this depth
