Adekugbe needs to be given a chance, and then he needs to take it with a super performance. He does that, and he surely is the left back in Vancouver for the foreseeable future.

I think Osorio could get another MLS gig fairly easily. He's played 125 games in the league and made it to the cup final, I'd say most MLS teams would want someone like him. Heck he might attract some European interest if he was on the open market.

^^^^Thankfully kids today also see high level European soccer a lot more than people bashing the sport which mesmerizes and draws them in. I got hooked as an eleven year old kid watching Juventus beat As Monaco 4-1 through a Del Piero hat-trick (and Zidane getting the fourth goal? Maybe?) in the Champions League after coming home from school one Wednesday afternoon during the late 90s as I randomly flipped through the channels before eventually landing on channel 30, TSN. I had no idea professional soccer existed in the world until that point.

The only difference between them and us was a professional league. Since that has been taken care of, we'll probably catch up in a short amount of time. After that, it will be purely generational. Whoever develops a better crop of players during a certain era will be better. Sometimes that will be us, sometimes it will be them.

Think it would just be a short 10 game format followed by a full season the next year, so they could make use of the summer transfer window to bring a few players in from overseas and avoid playing games through the World Cup. I suspect, it all might depend on whether the NASL finds a few expansion franchises over the next few months and looks like it is still going to hang around into 2018 and beyond as that will determine how available Edmonton is as a market next year.

Okay guys, back for my second post. My first post didn't take all that long; it was mostly copied-and-pasted (the US Soccer youngsters in Europe player pool which I maintain). It seems my irony meter was off for the thread topic and certain (trolling) posts which my post had been directed at -- I'll take a ribbing for that.
Regardless, hope you enjoyed my post. People outside of US circles may not realize that the US has a ton of young talent outside of the well-known Pulisic. We have a 21-yo who has won the starting GK job for Club Brugge, we have a 19-yo who has regularly made the Tottenham matchday squad, we have the most valuable player in Schalke's youth system, we have a 17-yo playing above his age level at PSG, we have a 15-yo kid at Barcelona who continually stands out from his peers at La Masia. That last one, Konrad de la Fuente, led the US U16s to a 3-0 demolishing of Mexico recently. Our U17s and U20s outplayed and outskilled Mexico too, not merely athleticism, on their way to victory. I guess that can be the point of the post, that the future of the US is not merely "yeah, they struck gold with Pulisic but otherwise it'll be the same old US."
Our current MNT is not that good because our we've been struggling between generations. Our U17 and U20 youth cycles from 2009 to 2013 have been largely disappointing. We will be much better -- better than El Tri -- when Pulisic and our other domestically-developed youngsters hit their prime a decade from now.
Just like the other American poster (quite a coincidence with the timing), I do sincerely wish Canadian soccer well. Root for them and maintain an interest in their players, and other eligibles who I feel should commit to Canada, e.g. Feirrera in Portugal. It annoys me that Canada can't get a player who was born and raised there.

Great reading though! It's clear the Yanks are now worried after today's auspicious proclamation of Canada's preeminent Premier League.

Victoria having a franchise would be a good move - but the best bet for success in BC is placing the team in North Surrey near the skytrain, or Burnaby also near the skytrain.

I don't foresee the league spending in the way that you do.  I foresee one or two DP-type players for each team, and a lot of players who have never played beyond the USL level.  They'll focus on playing Canadian players who have played at this level or in college and promote it as a place to watch Canadian players to play.  They'll work to keep salary costs heavily under control, because reports of teams losing millions upon millions each year will make the league look bad.

I get that Canadians really respect Ledgerwood for playing hard, occasionally well, and being a diligent servant during a period where others were not. But he's 32. And when I hear Zambrano say "generational change," I think of Ledgerwood.

I remember back in 2012 after that soul crushing day, I thought we wouldn't make it to the 2018 World Cup (correct), but I thought that the MLS academies were going to usher in a new era and we would have a good chance to make it to 2022 World Cup. The youth results since then aren't exactly reinforcing that prediction.

absolutely - the CANPL simply cannot be in big stadiums. Quaint 10k stadiums max, unless you get a Sounders like groundswell somewhere, and that specific team can playing a 25k. But.....

The Vancouver team will be best off playing a u20 World Cup-like Swangard.

This is what you will get by playing in these big stadiums like the one in Ottawa and the one in Hamilton, there was actually over 6000 people there today but the massive stadium sucked out any atmosphere there was. Imagine 6000 in a nice small pop up stadium or a Lamport type stadium, this is what this new league should be looking at not 25000 seats stadiums with 5 to 6000 people in them.

For all of you critics of Mo and yes he did make his fair share of errors, I ask you how does Endoh stay on this team then? It seems like a failed back heel pass which was turned over and eventually found it's way in to the TFC net was Mo's last action for the 1st team, Vanney was pissed and never got over that error, funny how he can overlook blunders from a certain draft choice keeper!

Sorry guys, it won't be tonight - hopefully tomorrow afternoon.  I still need to do some proper balancing now that I have actual team stats to work with rather than my generic ones (plus I spent too much time arguing with BBTB today).
It will spit out complete results but I just want to make sure they're fair (even though half of people will inevitably think otherwise!)

Most talented by far? Mr. Hutchinson might have something to say about that.

The remark was "technically very impressive, especially under pressure." The TWO misses vs. Mexico suggest otherwise, on top of his wide open empty goal miss earlier in the competition as well. Larin has a long way to go re: his composure, and finishing. But, he's easily our biggest prospect at the moment.

I'm not sure why any Canadian soccer fans would be opposed to this.  It's more games for Canada against regional opponents, and presumably more games IN Canada.  It's everything everyone has wanted for ages now.
