Re. Cavallini, I don't see him starting.  I don't think we will throw caution to the wind and play with 2 forwards.  Only way Cycle and Lucas play together is if we go 5 at the back, and I'm just not mentally ready for that kind of change.
If Cycle doesn't produce in this friendly and the first game, his ass sees pine and Cavallini gets his chance.  About time Cycle had competition and pressure to produce.

Exactly.. then if they don't work up front we bring AJH off the bench and he will score
Excited he us hopefully back in the fold. With Ricketts doing ok at Toronto, Haber remembering how to score and hopefully zanatta/hamilton coming through we have a lot of options up top..mostly c and d grade options but options!

I honestly couldn't see an MLS club signing Piette. None of the Canadian clubs have a need at CDM, and I don't think he's attractive enough for an American club to want to pick him up as an international. I'd prefer he stay in Europe, and apparently he has offers at higher levels than he played last year, so hopefully he makes a good move this offseason.
Also we need to remember that at 22 he is still a very young player. If he took the NCAA route he'd probably be in USL right now getting his first few appearances of his career. 120 games at that age is almost unheard of with the current crop of Canadians, even at reserve team levels.

I am of the school of thought that a career youth coach is better for the 14-18 year olds, when development is at a crucial stage. Someone in the mold of Bryan Klug. The novice can work with the under 23s. https://www.google.co.th/url?q=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Klug&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwj72p6btJHUAhXEPY8KHV72DNwQFggeMAY&usg=AFQjCNG0HrSSY2sG4gH9iA1LIoxX1LFD6w

Stunned that a professional club would turn over youth coaching to three former players with, as far as I can tell, zero history of experience in youth training and development. And we wonder why we're on a wheel spinning but not moving forward as a footballing nation.

indeed. the top tier has to be small - 12 teams max. 10 likely will be best. The 2nd tier though can grow and thrive to a large size in a regional format for sure.

Edwards at left back may or may not work, I can't say having not seen enough of the young man. But for everyone's consideration - look at Demi Mitchell's debut for MUFC this weekend. 20 years old. Left back. About the same size as Edwards. Very gifted going forward. Not sure he won a single tackle or header, but his positioning was so good he didn't need to.
With Zambrano in charge I hope we change. I hope we try everything under the sun to change. Why not this line-up?

    4-1-3-2 (the 3 are "CAM's")
    Larin - Hoilett
    Tabla - Arfield - Chapman
    Johnson
    Edwards - Edgar - James - Cordova
    Borjan
Plenty of options off the bench including but not limited to Hamilton, Davies, Osorio, Aird, Tesho, Hamel etc. We can try winning/losing 3-2 instead of 1-0 win or lose on a set-play for once.

Arfield can wander forward or back as needed. Hoilett can drop off or overlap Larin as needed. Larin can firmly plant himself in the central 15 yards of the pitch. The two full backs can step forward, with Johnson playing between the two centre backs creating a 3-5-2 in attack with width by the young full backs, and plenty of attacking support for the attacking two.

ThiKu got a reaction from Unnamed Trialist in Alphonso Davies
Having watched Davies as much as anyone can on TV, I have to agree. He is incredibly direct. This is applauded, and should be. But he absolutely has to add nuance to his game. Change of pace or "la pausa" has to be added. He doesn't need to be a Tabla-style player. He needs to develop what he is good at. But simply direct running won't work as opposition drop deeper and continue to send a 3rd defender to support the 2nd defender in every scenario. To combat that he also has to develop his passing. I find his passing generally that of...a talented 16 yr old with little range, vision, and accuracy. His short passing varies in quality as well.

He has massive upside, and should be in our national team for many years. But he has to develop nuance to take the next step. Hopefully a European team sees the potential in him and gets him out of MLS on his 18th birthday. And better not be an English team unless it's one of the "top 6" as they all have highly developed technical academy/u23 programs.

I think there is a significant benefit to having one unified league, but just with the standard East/West conferencing in order to save on travel. Calling them different leagues, as a casual fan, would definitely make me feel a bit less interested. At that point it makes me feel like "Well how is this any different than what we have currently?" would become a big question popping up. The classic East-West setup I think works well enough to combine mitigated travel costs with maintaining the "big-league" coast-to-coast feel.
I think that type of setup would work very well for an eventual 'Tier 2' of the pyramid if Canada ever got that far, but I think it would really be underwhelming for a top league in my opinion.

For me it was far from Davies best contribution, the whole team was running at SKC those minutes, his side, middle and the other, we deserved about 3 goals more. And others were more definitive in their play.
That hard foul on him led to the goal, and yes, he takes on defenders. In one play the defender simply absorbed his speed and he had no answer. So we were saying, better learn a few more tricks, kid, just speed and running, that, like end lines, will creep up on you eventually. For me he has to develop way better, or else he'll just be Manneh the 2nd.
Just saying this because for me, he was not even amongst the top half dozen on the field for us the last half hour.

I am not involved personally, but from what I have read in the past it's a little something like this. SAAC is the league of some soccer academies, the highest profile being Sigma (graduates include Cyle Larin, Kyle Bekker, etc). They aren't officially sanctioned by the Ontario Soccer Association (they are "recognized" but not sanctioned, whatever that means) because the OSA sanctioned clubs voted against letting them in. They claim it is because the cost is too high for kids, but it seems the real reason is that they feel threatened by these academies. That means these clubs are not allowed in the OPDL despite the fact that the coaching standards that the OPDL has adopted was actually created and used by SAAC, and now from what I understand, the cost to play for an OPDL or SAAC club is about the same.
Long story short, players from SAAC academies seem to be overlooked for national teams until they play on a college team or a pro team. Basically, the CSA overlooks this significant part of our player pool.

Edwards has been a standout for TFC lately. In my opinion he has been their most exciting player outside of Giovinco and Vazquez, I'm sure his latest performances wont go unnoticed by Zambrano. He is making runs and showing flashes of attacking that have been changing games. I'm really hopeful it continues!

Zambrano will most likely want to do well in his first major tournament with the senior team, and having at look at some young players like the ones you mentioned, does not mean that the entire team will be stocked with u-23 players or the like.  The players you mentioned are all deserving of call ups but I really don't think there will be too many more on the roster.  And of course he is building towards the next round of qualifying and the current group did not achieve the necessary results so there needs to be some change with the roster going forward.

Four weeks in, here's an update on the odds of being promoted: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/You/DuaneRollinsFantasyLeagueOpen.html
    1. An impressive eight teams have yet to take an L.
    2. Summerside Argus FC is the only team with three straight wins.
    3. At the bottom of the table, four teams are yet to pick up a single point.
    4. At this point, any team could still turn it around and finish the season as first seed.
    5. If the season ended today, the following teams would be promoted to the DRFL1: Farmers FC, Halifax, Summerside, Porcupine Goldrush, Beaverton, SC Chatham, York Lions FC, and Windsor Rum Runners

Agree with dspqr that even if some MNT fringe or otherwise come back, there will be a lot of unknown names. But I also remember being a youth player in the 80s when the Intrepid were formed in Ottawa and when we started to see kids we played with and against move up it was exciting and motivating. Also remember seeing players like Alex Bunbury, etc in their early days and I agree it is exciting to think we might get to see future International players 10 yards away at a pop-up stadium in places like Victoria, Waterloo or Moncton.
