  1. Oh come on! How many articles and tv reports does it take to convince you that where there's smoke there's fire. There's already half a dozen print articles out there the roof is on thin ice. If Minister Kevin Krueger says it during a press scrum, that's not in the public domain? Then mabey Krueger should STFU if he has nothing official to say, instead of leaking info like a siv
  2. then if Vancouver should lose its 2011 MLS spot cause the Retractable roof gets cancelled by the BC government, then Montreal or Ottawa should take Vancouver's spot
  3. And if the roof is cancelled, then I still spread a false rumour?
  4. I was the one who first broke the news the roof was in trouble. Not looking for credit. Just treat everyone on this board with respect
  5. Listen to Tom Mayenecht's The Sport Market tommorow Saturday morning on Team 1040 at 9 a.m. He has the month end round table with G&M Matt Sekeris (he breaks a lot of stories) and Bob Mackin from 24 Hrs. I'd expect the roof situation to be talked about in detail as it's very much a business story
  6. Did you hear that Unisystems boss Cyril Silberman on CKNW? He still feels the roof is a go. Certainly he has a financial interest as Unisystems filed a bid for the retraction equipment. But he would be quite close to the situation. However he admitted he wasn't so sure about the "local economy" out here as he's based in Minneapolis. He's just waiting for that phone call. No Press conference today? I think something is going to explode Monday morning in Victoria.
  7. Wow listening to the callers that called in, not one was supportive of the Retractable. Most seemed happy with just tearing down the place. I hate to say it but it appears the majority of the public is against this given the costs
  8. so Johnnie Monster why don't you get on CKNW with Michael Smyth at 12:30 (Christy Clark show) as they've been advertising all morning that they'll be talking BC Place Retractable roof... NW's website says the NDP says the roof upgrade is dead, so I guess we all know more than the NDP: No clarity yet on BC Place Roof project VICTORIA/CKNW AM 980 Sean Leslie | Email news tips to Sean 8/27/2009 Still no word what the provincial government will do about the roof on B-C Place. Plans for a state of the art, retractable roof now seem to be in jeopardy, potential
  9. No clarity yet on BC Place Roof project VICTORIA/CKNW AM 980 Sean Leslie | Email news tips to Sean 8/27/2009 Still no word what the provincial government will do about the roof on B-C Place. Plans for a state of the art, retractable roof now seem to be in jeopardy, potentially a victim of the severe economic downturn. Tourism Minister Kevin Krueger revealed today the bids on the 360 million dollar project came in over-budget. He says due diligence is being done. The NDP says the roof upgrade is dead. Krueger now says an announcement might not come u
  10. At 12:30 on CKNW Michael Smyth will be discussing the Retractable roof, or the cancellation of one, with Miro Cernitig. Just heard Vaughn Palmer and Keith Baldry with Bill Good on CKNW and they feel the Retractable will be delayed indefinitely. So I'm not sure why Lenarduzzi feels the Retractable is a done deal. Mabey Lenarduzzi should get on with Michael Smyth at 12:30
  11. Garbage. That's just window dressing to ease the impact of the cancellation of the roof. Bottom line is Roof is dead. How the MLS perceives all this questionable.
  12. Johnnie Monster, were you incapacitated when you suggested this on Southsiders: Best case scenario: Gordo decides to toast the whole BC Place site for condos, and waves the magic wand (Significant Projects Streamlining Act) allowing the Caps to build on Kerfoot's waterfront site without city approvals. That way Gordo collects quick cash for the Pavco lands to balance the budget, and they get a pile of labourers off the dole and working at two sites.... demolition work at False Creek, and construction in Gastown.
  13. They have not said it will be a retractable. The Minister even suggested it could be another new dome. The issue is not whether there will be a new roof. There has to be a new roof cause the old one is becoming dangerous. The issue is will the government go back on its promise to the MLS. Do you spend $ 25 million on a roof or $ 365 million? Seems pretty simple choice to me.
  14. What exactly will be announced on Budget Day? Exactly what programs are going ahead and which ones are cancelled?
  15. If the roof will be built, why doesn't the Minister just say so? Why beat around the bush? Writing emails is fruitless. The government has run out of money. It's dead.
  16. Richard, they can put on another dome, a new one. They don't HAVE to put on a retractable.
  17. Johnnie Monster, you say the Roof is "Ultimately Irrelevant"? Crapp! Anything costing $ 365 million is Ultimately Irrelevant? Come on man! Listen to Lenarduzzi's comments here from 1040 below. He says the Retractable Roof is an integral and critical part of the Caps MLS bid and if the Roof is cancelled, in his words, "we've got serious problems". Serious problems. If you don't mind, I choose to take Lenarduzzi at his word: http://www.team1040.ca/contentfiles2/Bob%20Lenarduzzi%20with%20Pratt%20and%20Giulio.mp3
  18. Montreal is going to get the 2011 spot ahead of Vancouver cause of this Roof fiaso.. I smell trouble brewing at MLS offices... Even if the Roof is delayed, that's not fair to delay Montreal or St. Louis if they're in a better position right now. Give 2011 to Montreal or St. Louis, then when and if the Whitecaps can get a Retractable Roof or new Stadium, reconsider Vancouver. I'm sorry but a deal is a deal. Don Garber met with the Premier and funding for the Retractable was approved. If it is withdrawn, Garber has to take action. Otherwise these sorts of deals will lo
  19. Then why not give the franchise spot to Montreal? Why is St. Louis so inferior? If Montreal and St. Louis can get their ducks in line and Vancouver can't, yes I can see Vancouver's spot being given to Montreal or St. Louis if they can get their ducks in line... And when the Roof does get cancelled in Tuesday's budget, you will see panic. So Bill, you're suggesting they will cancel the Roof but go ahead with the other renos. Possible. The Roof portion was $ 150 to $ 200 million or thereabouts. Of course the choice of turf may depend on indoor / outdoor conditions
  20. And when the Roof does get cancelled in Tuesday's budget, you will see panic. So Bill, you're suggesting they will cancel the Roof but go ahead with the other renos. Possible. The Roof portion was $ 150 to $ 200 million or thereabouts. Of course the choice of turf may depend on indoor / outdoor conditions. Some turf may not be suitable for a strictly indoor environment. And the Caps WILL NOT share the same field with the Lions. That will not happen. I just think it's all or nothing. Do it all or don't do anything, don't just do something half-ass
  21. Please keep these lines open for Whitecaps related talk. We have a serious crisis facing the team right now and we're not interested in 9-0 crapp. Leave that stuff in another section.
  22. San Jose is in MLS are they not? Didn't the MLS pull out the two franchises in Florida?
  23. This article places more doubt on it. Says it's in "limbo" and under review. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/bc-place-retractable-roof-plans-in-limbo/article1266316/ It says the Minister should know this week. An announcement Friday? Surely we will know by Friday as the Budget comes Tuesday and the wording of the Budget will have to be finalized any day now. I would suggest there will be a closed door meeting with Pavco, the Whitecaps and BC Lions Friday afternoon
  24. Keep in mind that Pavco doesn't have the final say as to whether that Retractable will go ahead. The provincial cabinet has full control over authorization of addditional spending, not Pavco. Pavilion Corporation as a crown corporation is charged with operating BC Place; the ultimate owner is the provincial government. If cabinet pulls funding Tuedsay in the budget, Pavco is in no position of power to countermand that. Pavco as an entity has no additional funding through their own sources to subsidize a project of such magnitude. Cabinet gives Pavco a budget to wor
