Levi Oakey got a reaction from Winnipeg Fury in BC Soccer aiming to launch "Regional Tier 3 League"
This is infuriating. Same problems we saw with L1O really. Once American leagues are established it is incredibly difficult to get them back under the Canadian umbrella. This level especially is a labour of love and for a lot of teams they get committed to the leagues they are in.

I was hoping that TSS would try to make the jump. I was hoping that Victoria would. Frankly. I want KW United to be the last team in the PDL and then hopefully that would force their hand, but when PDL continues to push back regional leagues it gets easier and easier for United to oppose L1O.
I thought the Voyageurs Cup announcement would really help, but clearly these lower level teams need some kind of new revenue generator that will push them to become a - better community based clubs and b - start working together. As soccer supporters, what could we do that would encourage teams, irrespective of leagues to start working together.

We're planning to meet up at Descendants Bierhalle on January 10th. Will have Gillian Heidary from KW United talking about United and maybe Nathan Ingham (Former United keeper and recently with FC Edmonton) coming to hang out.  Still planning things, but this is an open invitation to attend!

If you live in Waterloo Region (and we also accept Guelph/Stratford/Brantford), let's get talking about the Canadian Premier League. We're going to be living the dream! but if we don't get a team, we'll join the Hamilton crew for some sweet sweet Canadian Soccer action.

David Beckham's impact on TFC is minimal at best. They had already sold over 7,000 season tickets before his announced move and it's not like sales were slowing. Did sales speed up? Sure, but there was already a buzz about this team. It was a success from day one, with or without Beckham.
Also, Toronto is definitely the only city in Canada with immigrants. Everywhere else is 1952.

Further to @ReedOnTheGrand's explanations of stadiums. I present another amazing opportunity in KW:
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/schneiders-kitchener-sold-auburn-development-1.4318369
This is probably my favourite option for a site. The site will take years of brownfield development before it can be fully usable for residential and Auburn itself is known for taking awhile to get things going (see the Arrow Lofts and Barrelyards Development). At the back of the site is a railroad track, which also won't be great for residential but perfect for something like a stadium, where a train coming by once and awhile is fine. It's close to downtown and right on the LRT line. It's also close to the Iron Horse trail and a favourite Grand River Union brewery, Together We're Bitter Brewing Co-op.
I think a modular stadium could pop up in this location very quickly. It would be a great way segue for Auburn and fantastic for city access.

Don't know how I missed this.. but I will expand more here. I would prefer L1O because the season is longer, so I can support my team for longer. At the same time, I know why United wants to stay in the PDL.

First, the OSA got super heavy handed about the whole thing, which is one of my worries about CPL. They basically showed up and said, you can apply when you want (originally) and then said, you'll be banned from US leagues and must play in L1O. Hence the bat comment.

United is a professionally run club. They are the only USL PDL club to do all year scouting. Barry Maclean, the owner, is a player agent. So he is often doubling up scouting for both his club and his agency.

The difficulty with L1O is, in my opinion, it is trying to be a European league in Ontario. It might really work, but right now, the best talents play in CIS or NCAA because L1O doesn't play. I heard they want a 65 player roster, so from April to May when college players are released you play a bunch of local scrubs. Then you get your NCAA players and play them for the summer months until August. Then they swap back in your local scrubs in the final stretch of the season till October.

That's hard for the local players and frustrating for fans. "hey local scrub, you get to play until the big boys show up, than you should go find a job as a weed trimmer or something... and we'll come back for you in August? Maybe go treeplanting."

End of the day, I think the plan was for L1O to be more semi-pro than pro-am. Semi-pro makes sense, but so far they haven't had the clubs to do that. Clubs like FC London and KW United could probably make that jump (i have heard that United's season budget is well over half a million, and that is just 4 games), but they can't play in a league of 2-4.
United definitely has plans to make the jump up, and going to L1O would look like a drop down. I know that the FC London team changed significantly by entering L1O. Mark Haynes played with United a bit last year as we ran into GK injury trouble and he said that maybe 4-5 of the L1O players would have made their old PDL team. So it's CPL or bust for KW. This year they should be announcing a full affiliate agreement with TFC (so we can take their college aged-players) because even TFC isn't huge on the idea of saying you have faith in a bunch of kids and then pulling the rug from under them when the college kids come to roost.

Sounds like he was playing one city off against the other, but Saskatoon now has the inside track:
    http://thestarphoenix.com/sports/local-sports/groups-pro-soccer-push-includes-downtown-stadium-for-saskatoon
...He estimates it would take nine to 10 months to build the new stadium, and he envisions playing games at Prairieland in 2019 and 2020 before moving into a new facility in 2021, he said...Belan is also talking with Regina about putting the team there. One of his ideas was to use a large portion of the old Taylor Field, including the west grandstand. That would have saved him money in stadium construction, and the city money in demolition. The proposal didn’t pan out...“Back in July, when we were still evaluating both cities, it was really a coin toss,” Belan added. “At this point, the differentiating factor is that we’re close to a commercial agreement on Prairieland. We think that’s a suitable facility to introduce the project...We’re getting to a point where we need to start making some commitments, financially and otherwise, for being in the league in 2019. We think Prairieland, assuming we can come to a final agreement with them, would give us a viable venue to start in 2019.” ...

It's a rogue association that is trying to find their own slice of the soccer pie because much of it's leadership has been blackballed by the CSA. That's my take on the whole thing. The Arena soccer is not sanctioned by FIFA and Futsal is the desired indoor sport both for it's ability to train players and for entertainment value (having clearly defined out of bounds assists defenders in "squeezing the play" and encouraging creative solutions).
