How many people do you think are going to turn up for a league like this in Edmonton when FCE draws flies a lot of the time to Clarke Stadium? The key here maybe is that these are genuine clubs that have been around for decades as opposed to some rich guy's franchise play thing. If they want to play in a national format league with a PDL-type roster to complete a player pathway concept why would the CSA want to place a limit on their ambitions if they get a national women's league showcasing top U-Sports and NCAA scholarship players out of it?

    This explains a lot.

  2. Regarding the XFL and CFL cooperation, this was initiated by the XFL and I highly doubt it leads to a merger. From listening to some football experts in the US the XFL is keen to come to some sort of agreement with the CFL to tap into their football "structure." They're set to begin playing in 1 year and they have no teams announced, no coaches, no front office staff, etc. Apparently they're looking for ways to have staff and players move between the two leagues seamlessly and to have help with the administrative side of running the league.

No - that isn’t an option.  Can’t be one of those parents.  Plus I really do love watching them play.  They went 10 and 0 in the regular season and won their first playoff game last night.  Two more wins and their school will be provincial champs for the first time in about 15 years.  Gotta watch that happen.

But the saving grace is that I just found out his game is around 6:00 Atl (5:00 eastern) so I think I am actually good. The other team has a 2.5-3 hr drive so I expected a later game, but that stars are aligning. That is a good omen.

If all goes well, I will get to cheer on 3 winning teams tomorrow.

Can we get an update after the game?

@Olympique_de_Marseille do we need a game thread?

You may need a much much larger house.

When past nightmares are forgotten and the optimism returns, probably in June, I’ll wonder “what’s behind this brick doorway?” I’ll break down the wall and the process starts over. It’s kind of like eating at Red Lobster, you go there, you love it, you feel like shit, you swear you’ll never go back. Then months pass and you forget how terrible it made you feel and you think “hmmm, Red Lobster is delicious, I should go there for dinner tonight!”

  5. I completed a reno in my basement so I have a nice viewing area setup. It’s full of breakables to smash and pillows to cry into but it’s sound proof and cordoned off from the rest of the house so the dogs and kids are safe. Once these games are over and the eventual disappointment sets in I’ve designed the room so that it can be walled off and never thought of again.

I wouldn't say it is pointless to question it, I do agree he is not going anywhere and that may concern many of us if he doesn't produce results! I think even his detractors, myself included are hoping he succeeds regardless of what we feel about the hiring process, my bigger concern is what happens if he doesn't succeed?

If he doesn't succeed this place will implode!

I dont want to derail the thread.

But to me it boggles my mind that people take issue with people who take issue with Herdman's hiring.

It was a WTF hiring and we are stuck with him now for at least 1 WCQ cycle.

I think you answered your own query.

The fact that this is a discussion still boggles my mind. Regardless of how we feel he's with us, win or lose, until the end of the cycle.

CSA needs to downsize first.... their org chart is over bloated for the overall output.

We have a real problem when 30-35% of our revenue has been dependent on recreational and competitive player, coach and referee fees. The past year has shown that.
No way this is normal in other federation’s. But I hate talking about this, as it never goes anywhere/we can’t do anything but complain about the money ...oR lAcK tHeReOf

You’ve seen the CSA org chart? Please share. We have a thread dedicated to this topic titled “CSA Finances” or something like that, it would be worthwhile posting there.

I hate to say it but Athetico is starting to look like a bust in this league as an owner.  Last year I gave them a bit of a pass for signing players so late and playing the island games with an under strength side. This year there is much less of an excuse. They have had a year to get their act together and arguably should have more cash to get through this crisis than others. But other than Copeland, we have seen no real young talent signed and huge gaps still in the roster where almost all the other sides have filled their rosters out or at least made significant additions.  It starts to worry me that this is more of a misplaced branding exercise by the parent rather than a serious investment in the development of future players.

    You overlook Jeff Hunt.

It's also infamously hard to prove for something like an anti-trust case (or at least so I heard, definitely not my expertise).

But these accusations go in line with the secret drafts the first dibs at hometown players etc.

This is common in pro sports in NA, see the NFL and MLB. Not leagues with stellar labour relations but the tactics employed by the CPL ownership are not at all unique to pro sports leagues.
