I don't blame you for thinking Swangard would be ideal.  It certainly appears that way, sitting between two stations (about a five-minute walk), nice view of the mountains and trees, and a great location far enough away from BC Place Toilet, but just across the street from Vancouver in the city of Burnaby.  However, it has one down side, which is the City of Burnaby.  They won't let anyone touch that track, and they're not very footie-friendly.  When there used to be World Cup Qualifiers there, Canada couldn't practise the there because the away team (rightfully so) would demand the opportunity to have a run out on the pitch, and the knuckle-scrapers at Burnaby City Hall would say, "That's enough.  You can have a match and someone can run on it for an hour or so.  Otherwise, get lost."
The PNE, where Empire Field was, was another great location.  That temporary stadium was almost as nice as the original Empire Stadium, and with a much better pitch.  The turf at Empire Stadium was 500 area rugs from Ikea of various shades of green, stapled together.  I digress.  You're right, that was another excellent location, other than public transport.  Since tearing down the stadium, the PNE (similar to Toronto's CNE, I presume) has done a bunch of very careful landscaping and other crap to make the area look as if someone's done some very careful landscaping.  You know, an obviously placed shrubbery here and there, and some fakey-looking bridge that doesn't really go over anything except the level ground underneath it.  Nice job, if you like that sort of thing.  I think they left one fake turf field, with no room for any stands.

You accused me of racist and sexist positing in your private message to Rintaran, which is more evidence of you being disingenuous. Please cite where I have ever been those things? I consider what you said about me to be slanderous and patently false.
As for the bolded, I calmly explained how racism might not be at play here but you still accuse me of some horrible things which are not true. Is that not appalling?

    1) The issue is that counter arguments can be made for all your indirect evidence like income inequality and the like. I come from a minority community that has thrived politically and economically over the last 40 years without any extra help so I am of opinion we don't need policies and practices for any of those things.
    2) Sure, if you actually had evidence discrimination took place which for the most part you and people like you, such as UT never do. It's almost always a disingenuous attack on someone or some group based on what you perceive rather than what the situation actually is. See point 4 below as an example of what I mean.
    3) I'm Punjabi, Sikh and I have never felt unwelcome in any soccer space.
    4) UT took issue with a video of a group of Norwich fans and said it was a bad example as there were too many white men. It was disingenuous because he made the assumption that these fans actively discriminate against people of colour to ensure that only white guys attend the match, which is foolish to assume. Look at a club like Arsenal or Chelsea and you will see plenty of minorities in the stands. It may just be that Norwich fans are predominantly white, which wouldn't be unfounded if the area the club is in is mostly resided by white people.
    5) I don't believe in the term reverse racism. Racism is racism and yes, you can be racist towards white people.
People don't see race these days. All you have to do is carry yourself well, workout, maintain good hygiene, know how to carry a conversation, be a little charming and people will forget all about what you look like within 5 minutes of meeting you.

Thank you for sending me the following DM:

You were banned for harassment, bullying, and threatening moderators & the voyageur's board.
I will, once again, warn you against harassing, bullying, and threatening moderators & the voyageur's board.
For clarification, your threat above is:
I generally appreciate your posts on the board, and had hoped that we had moved beyond baseless insults and uttering threats. However, as you wish to drag this out, I'll go ahead and post this publicly myself.

As you clearly have no respect for me or my decisions, I am referring the decision on all warning & banning matters to @admin. I believe @jordan is another moderator who may be able to address your concern. There may be more out there. I don't really know. You'll have to ask them.

As a leftist, with a wife who is a visible minority, and two children who are clearly halfies, I have found many of the responses to the Dames of York announcement & the resulting racism spiral to be disgusting, on many levels, and the back & forth interpretations/misinterpretations of responses makes me sick.
I tried ending or redirecting the conversation, I tried explaining, but everything ends with another accusation, and cries of racism/sexism. When a loading error made some posts not visible, there were cries of censorship. So clearly, locking the thread or hiding the offending posts is not an appropriate response.
Just as the conversation seemed to close, you, @Unnamed Trialist, jumped in and antagonized it again, and then proceeded to issue threats, to me, via DM.
I've dropped writers from my own site, very publicly, for less than what has come out in that conversation, but, the voyageur's board isn't my site, I don't like warning or banning people unless absolutely necessary, and quite frankly, I never wanted to be a moderator anyways. I asked to be able to post articles to the site, and at some point, despite my objections someone made me a bloody mod.
I'm finished with that ****. Go harass another board, or another moderator, because I'm not here for you to threaten & insult any longer.

@admin and @jordan and any other moderator out there can address your threats themselves. Please stop shitting on Canadian Soccer and those trying to make it better.

So, this is the last thing I’m going to say about this because it’s like talking to an especially obstreperous wall. Politics doesn’t belong in soccer. “Identifies as” is 100% political language. Just because you agree with it, or you view it as common, doesn’t negate that it is political.

For some reason, many people are straw-manning what I’m saying. Let me make it super clear: I support the inclusion of women and trans people in Y9 fandom. The issue is that this group could’ve dodged the culture war bullet by using more generic and less political language, that’s all.

I think that only an infantile mind needs to preen around signalling their ideology to everyone, everywhere they go. Left or right. I don’t want Y9 to be a political rally. I want it to entertain me with soccer. I don’t want the political inclinations of a handful of partisan people to drive away the many others who are sick of the bs.

Anyways, good luck to this group, I hope they attract loads of new fans. I also hope that they think about whether their purpose is politics, or the attraction of female fans.

    @dmont, @SthMelbRed and @Bison44
    You three are absolutely right.
I will create my own supporters group that will advocate nothing but support for the third position, we will call it the Y9 Union of Fascists.
I hope the name of my group doesn't overly bother you all with faux rage. I hope you don't give a rat's ass if there is an alternative position LARP soccer supporters group. It's a free country right?
If you have any issue with this group, perhaps you should go seek therapy.

They can do whatever they want. I can also opine however I’d like. As I said, I’ve no problem with a group that caters to female fans. I have a problem with the unnecessary use of political buzz words. I don’t want politics in soccer. It’s already being shoved down everyone’s throats in the movies, on tv, and in music. It’s divisive and unnecessary, and we don’t need to politicize soccer, it’s the quickest way to alienate huge swaths of potential fans.

I want EVERYONE to enjoy York 9 FC. That includes women. Men too. Minorities and non-minorities also. Liberals, Conservatives, and everyone in between. How some people don’t get this is beyond me.
  15. Thanks
vancanman reacted to Ams1984 in York9 - Season Thread 2020
I hope she is successful. We need more fans (men, women, everybody!). The only issue I take with it is the use of political buzz words in their blurb. Specifically “inclusive” and “identify as”.

I’ve got no problem with a group being called ‘dames of York 9’. It’s name and logo are enough to convey its purpose. They could’ve said something like ‘I was often the only woman in the ultras section, so I wanted to create a group to attract more women to the stands’. My reaction would’ve then been entirely positive. But the inclusion of political new-speak sends a very political message. There is no need for it unless your purpose is political.

I never been a part of a supports group that excluded women. RPB, U Sector and other TFC supporters groups always welcomed women, so have the V’s.  I’m not involved with GenIX or the Green Lions but I have never see anything they post say women supporters were rejected.  This seems very gimmicky.

Sorry, that’s just not the case.

When people choose to use political buzz words in the blurb about their group and it’s purpose, they’ve politicized it, not the people who later recognize and comment on their use of political buzz words.

Yep... it’s not a big deal I guess, I just sighed and thought ‘ok, here we go’. On the plus side, I just read that they’ll be doing outreach to try to get more fans into the stadium, so there’s that. We definately need to improve attendance.

My biggest fear (in terms of this league) is that it’ll become politicized. I get enough political garbage shoved down my throat everywhere else all day, every day. I’m also afraid that if they go too political, they may actually turn off a lot of people. Hence my suggested different wording for their blurb. It achieves the same thing without the political buzz words.

Ha ha... okay. I’m not going to bite on the US bashing. Look, the blurb is political in my opinion, and therefore I’m not sure how I can react in a totally apolitical way. I thought I did a pretty decent job of it by not addressing the normative valuations intrinsic to the language they used, instead I said (in other words) ‘I like equality and inclusiveness, and I find this to be unnecessarily exclusive’... if that qualifies as political, I guess everything is.

The more fans the better, I’m with you there. I don’t like the obvious political feel to their blurb, and I’m generally not a fan of dividing people into groups based on their immutable characteristics.
I’ve got no problem with a supporter’s group called “dames of York” but I’m not really excited about the “inclusive atmosphere for all those who identify as women” bit - first, its definitional exclusion, not inclusion, to have an X or Y only group. If there were a group promoting an “inclusive atmosphere for all men who support York 9” how would that play?
Second, why use politically laden language? Why not just say something like: “an inclusive York 9 supporters group for everyone interested in supporting our great club” (their name and image clearly convey the female-friendly culture of the group, the ‘identifies as’ is just unnecessary. The word “everyone” would cover that in a much less political way).

I hope so too. There’s so much wrong with this, but I’m not opening that can of worms here. One encouraging bit is that I haven’t seen it mentioned on the York 9 website. Generation IX and the new York U group (whatever it’s called) have both been mentioned there.

I'm of no doubt that the Vancouver Whitecaps will still be around long after the dip ***** in the Southsiders have packed up and moved on. With all due respect to certain individual members of the group, who seem pretty sound, you'd be hard pressed to find a more clueless, negative bunch at any sports ground in Canada.
