  1. Hadn't noticed that Argentina replaced Japan in the tournament. That improves Canada's chances of not finishing last! https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2021/01/argentina-replaces-japan-at-2021-shebelieves-cup-presented-by-visa
  2. Yeah, I just checked mine. My subscription to OneSoccer was included as part of my season ticket/Collective Membership. Instead of expiring at the end of 2020 as advertised, the expiration date is now August 2021.
  3. CSA announced today that the CWNT will play England in April during the FIFA international window (April 5-13). The exact date and location for the friendly will be announced at a later date. https://www.canadasoccer.com/news/canada-soccers-womens-national-team-to-face-england-in-womens-international-friendly-match/?fbclid=IwAR0IXdf7bCIZHpI-TKh0pzHtRtFQxf3kb0AMpGR8HecZbEGXwREr3p68Jog
  4. That being said, it appears that Canada is one of the regions where you can watch full matches from the DFB-Pokal a day later on the official German Football Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/GermanFootball/featured
  5. My understanding is that OneSoccer only purchased the rights to the semi-finals and final for the 2020 edition. Probably just because Bayern Munich had made it that far. I am not sure if they have the same package for 2021 or if they will just wait and see how Bayern do. https://mediaprocanada.tv/en/news/onesoccer_secures_exclusive_rights_to_dfb_pokal_semis_and_final
  6. Arfield is expected to rejoin the squad at the end of this week and will hopefully be ready to play for Rangers in their Europa League match on Feb. 18. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55901363
  7. I think he is still holding out for a gig in the UK. He’s not a prolific social media poster, but he has posted a view training snippets on his Instagram over the past few weeks. Otherwise he has just done the occasional colour commentary for Norwich games. I wouldn’t mind seeing him come back to CPL, but I think he is pretty settled in the UK.
  8. CSA have announced a 29-player squad that will participate in a 2 week training camp before the SheBelieves Cup. The final 23-player roster for the tournament will be announced shortly before the opening match. There are 5 newcomers to the CWNT fold, including Evelyne Viens and Bianca St-Georges. 9. Agreed. Hopefully, if they have taken a big lead, Corbeanu will get a run out.
  10. Thanks for sharing. Confirms that she did apply for the head coaching position and lost out to Priestman. Priestman offered Rhian a position within her coaching staff, but Rhian turned it down. She recognized that she would have to leave in order to get the experience to be hired as the CWNT head coach.
  11. It is just a short term contract until Wiegman takes over in September. It will be a good experience for her, but I would be surprised if she remains an assistant after that.
  12. I don't know if Cloé will be called or not. She did obtain her Icelandic citizenship in June 2019. However, as of last summer, FIFA said she did not meet its residency requirement to play for Iceland. The Iceland FA is working with FIFA to have the issue resolved. https://www.visir.is/g/20201989968d/jon-thor-um-cloe-hun-upp-fyllir-ekki-krofur-fifa- In the past, Cloé has sounded very open to the idea of playing for Iceland: https://www.frettabladid.is/sport/bestu-astur-sem-eg-hef-upplifa/
  13. Wilkinson is stepping down as Head Coach of the U-17 and U-20 National Teams and as Assistant Coach of the CWNT. https://canadasoccer.com/news/canada-soccer-announces-departure-of-womens-national-youth-team-head-coach-rhian-wilkinson/ In a personal statement released on Twitter, she talks about moving on to learn and grow, but doesn't say what the next stage of her career will be.
  14. Canadians selected in the 2021 NWSL Draft include: - Deanne Rose selected 10th overall by North Carolina Courage - Victoria Pickett selected 15th overall by Kansas City NWSL (https://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/victoria-pickett-nwsl-canada-draft-1.5871403)
  15. I am very happy to see that the CWNT will be able to get some quality matches in! As of late November, the Tournoi de France was also scheduled to play around the same time (February 15-25). Nothing has been formally announced though. Meanwhile, Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, and Norway were supposed to play in the Algarve Cup, but it has been cancelled for 2021.
  16. Zadorsky has signed a permanent deal with Spurs until the end of the 2020/21 season. She had been on loan from Orlando until the end of the 2020 calendar year. https://www.skysports.com/transfer/news/12691/12181468/tottenham-make-alanna-kennedy-shelina-zadorsky-deals-permanent
  17. 1. Alphonso Davies 2. Jonathan David 3. Scott Arfield 4. Atiba Hutchinson 5. Stephen Eustaquio
  18. I wonder when the CSA is going to announce that the IMG Academy is our new "National Soccer Stadium"...
  19. Interesting quote from this ESPN article: "According to reports in France, the league has obtained a payment of €100m -- broken up as €64m now and €36m in January 2021 -- from Mediapro in exchange for not suing them for breach of contract." https://www.espn.com/soccer/french-ligue-1/story/4260001/ligue-1-scraps-tv-deal-following-payment-dispute-sources
  20. The Guardian and the Offside Rules Podcast have published the latest version of their annual rankings. https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2020/dec/08/the-100-best-female-footballers-in-the-world-2020 For 2020, the rankings are based on votes made by 88 judges who consist of former players, current/former managers, and media. Judges with a Canadian connection include: Rhian Wilkinson, Harjeet Johal, and Sandra Prusina. More on how the rankings were done can be found here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/dec/07/how-the-guardian-ranked-the-100-best-female-footballers-in-the-world-2020 Here are the 3 Canadians on the 2020 list with their previous rankings in brackets: Sinclair is #31 (2019=#28, 2018=#16, 2017=#13, 2016=#6) Buchanan is #36 (2019=N/A, 2018=#83, 2017=#40, 2016=#38) Lawrence is #70 (2019=N/A, 2018=N/A, 2017=#66, 2016=N/A) Previous Canadian entries include: Fleming (2019=#87, 2018=N/A, 2017=#80, 2016=N/A) Beckie (2019=N/A, 2018=N/A, 2017=N/A, 2016=#97) Some interesting stats: Pernille Harder of Denmark becomes the first 2-time winner. Lucy Bronze and Wendie Renard are the only 2 players to be named in the Top-10 for all 5 years. There are only 9 Americans on the 2020 list, as opposed to their usual 16-19 players. Germany is the top nation with 13 players in 2020. Lyon is top club again with 12 players on the list.
  21. Hoilett gets the start for Cardiff City v. Barnsley. Scores in the 4th minute. That is his first of the season.
  22. I'm not surprised the CSA went with Priestman given her previous connection to the program and its players as well as the fact that England is going in a new direction too. I was not impressed with Priestman's results at the youth level (especially the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship) and think she was fortunate to have Huitema in all her squads. That being said, I am pleased that the CSA didn't promote Wilkinson to the top job...at least not yet.
  23. Posted this in the Arfield thread, but Scotty mentioned that Herdman will be announcing a squad in the next two weeks. So, it sounds like a friendly is in the works: https://www.rangersnews.uk/international/rangers-star-scott-arfield-gives-update-on-canada-future-amid-uncertainty/
  24. Arfield clarified this past weekend that he has not retired from international football. Scotty said that he has spoken with Herdman many times since the last camp in November 2019. Also said that Herdman will be announcing a squad in the next 2 weeks, so perhaps there is a friendly on the horizon: https://www.rangersnews.uk/international/rangers-star-scott-arfield-gives-update-on-canada-future-amid-uncertainty/
  25. His brother, Micah, was born in Oakville, ON, but I am not sure about Daniel. The family relocated to England in 2017 when they signed their respective contracts. Micah was part of a Canada U-15 camp in 2016, but I don't think Daniel has ever suited up for Canada.
