  1. What is everyone's favourite soccer television personality in Canada? Mine has to be Bobby McMahon, without a doubt. The class of Fox Sports World Report. He is worth sacrificing my going out Friday nights for his absolutely insightful commentary on the game. A hidden jewel from Winnipeg Manitoba. Craig Forrest would be a close second along with Dick Howard.
  2. L.T., Very good article. I found it very enjoyable indeed. It makes a very Strong case of the importance of creating a professional soccer league in Canada. Now with regards to the last days of the CSL, I do recall even in my young ripe age of 12 in 1992 the Winnipeg Fury did win the last ever CSL championship. Oh the potential they had to build a dynasty. What a shame the CSL folded. I am hoping in the near future Winnipeg Will get the chance to see some pro soccer. I am optimistic that it will be sooner then later.
  3. From my understanding I believe that the Aspers are still based in Winnipeg. However I dont know how interested the Aspers would be interested in even thinking about buying a USL division 1 soccer team.
  4. Great stuff. Now I will be able to get my kicks and Honey Nut Cheerios sunday Morning even more. The EPL on Fox Sports World Canada, Italian Serie A on Telelatino and the EPL NOW on the Score. Cracking stuff indeed.
  5. _______________________________________________________________________ Interesting view on many points. My own personal opinion is I think Winnipeg could very well see a USL division one team within a few years for a few reasons: 1. The WSC II complex once up and running will definately help with regards to a decent stadium for a team to play. Glad to hear that some footy is being played at WSC now, less dressing rooms. 2. While the USL head honchos "Only" say that they "Only" want 16 teams in USL division 1, thus leaving room for "Only" 4 more, my feeling is teams move around
  6. Just curious on what people's opinions are on if there will be any near future expansion in the USL for the first or second division. Does any one think there will be any more Canadian teams? If so what does any one think about the chances of cities like Ottawa, Winnipeg and Hamilton seeing professional soccer any time in the next few years? And what will the impact of possibly the MLS coming to Canada have with the Toronto Lynx? Just something new to talk about
  7. I am just wondering what everyone here in the Voyageurs disscussion forum think of the NHL's return and the impact that it will have on soccer coverage this upcoming season, namely the UEFA Champions League on TSN. I think we as soccer fans could be in tough this year, as I have a feeling UEFA champions League will have very limited coverage because the NHL will get prime coverage on TSN, as well the Winter Olympics are happening in February, right in the middle of the UEFA Champions League Knock out stages. Let's also remember the fact that the Canadian Curling Association wants to go
  8. While I told many people that I thought Panama would be the surprise team of this year's Gold Cup, I did not think they would beat Colombia. This is shocking. Good for Panama. I think this is the dark horse team of the tournament.
  9. Kind of disapointed South Africa that they are bringing there cruddy squad. Does any one have the feeling that Panama could be the surprise team of this year's Gold Cup?? I got a feeling they could squeeze through the quarters somehow, considering they have a easy group.
  10. I am going to Boston. I am leaving Sunday Morning from Winnipeg via the Greyhound Bus. It will take me about 45 hrs to get there. I have taken vacation time for this, so I am pumped. By the way, I will be sitting in section GA1 Row GA0 seat 28. I agree with all of you, while I am not keen on Canada's chances of getting to the quarters (thanks to the crummy draw), stranger things have happened, and we all want to see these boys pull a surprise or two during the dog days of summer. It would be nice to see these boys pull off a few surprises, considering that there is a very good chance t
  11. I have been following this tournament, via internet, watching the highlights on FSWR, and reading World Soccer Magazine and have been facinated. The all Brazilian final should be interesting. It is too bad we cant get the final here on digital cable. The Fox Soccer Channel in the United States is showing both games via tape delayed. Personally I want to see Sao Paulo win. It would be good to see them win. However I must say the low point in this tournament was the return leg between Boca Juniors and Chivas De Guadalajara in Buenos Aires. The former Boca coach spitting @
  12. I was wondering what people are thinking here in the forum in terms of Canada's chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Given that there are 3 groups of 4 instead of 4 groups of three, that means the two best third place teams make it. It is going to be, I hate to say it going to be tough slugging for Yallop's boys this time around, consider they were given a quasi lame group (Costa Rica, USA, Cuba). I just dont know about this year they will make it to the quarters, I hate to say. But I have seen stranger things happen. Go Canada!!!
  13. I wont be in Toronto. However I will be busing from Winnipeg to Boston for the game between Canada and Cuba, as well as the game between Costa Rica and the United States. Then I am flying to Houston for the dobleheader between Jamaica and Mexico and Guatamala and South Africa. Looks like South Africa is going to be taking a depleted squad with them for the GC.
  14. Yea, I just my reserved my ticket for the Boston game. I wont be going to Seatle, but will be faithfully watching both games from Seattle via Rogers Sportsnet. I got a strange feeling about the group we are in. I think we are either going to get the stuffing kicked out of us(lord I hope not) or pull off a few surprises in the opening round. It all depends on the first came with Costa Rica. If we can tie or win that one, and win against Cuba we will be fine (I am already tossing out any chance of us getting a point against the U.S.). However if we lose against Costa Rica, then lights
  15. It Should be very interesting on how Sportsnet covers the 2006 FIFA World Cup. There are some advantages it does have over TSN, in a sense that Rogers has 4 regional channels, and Rogers could maximize it's potential in showing maxiumum 4 live games (highly unlikely, but you never know). However I do have a question. Would Rogers Sportsnet want to sell some games to other networks (i.e. CBC for the final, or Telelatino) to recoup some of the costs. Jury is out on this one, considering Rogers isnt in as many homes as TSN. I am just curiuous if this will be the beggining of Roge

  17. Hello to all. Is any one looking forward to the CONCACAF Gold Cup? Is anyone going to the CONCACAF Gold Cup to see Canada, in either Seatle or Boston? I am planning on going to Boston to see Canada Vs. Cuba and then fly down to Houston for Mexico Vs. Jamaica. Should be fun
  18. No doubt. I have to agree with this one. Winnipeg needs a good small soccer stadium. It is a shame a city our size and a strong ethnic contingent that we have here, cant muster enough energy to try to get a pro soccer team here. We need vision.
