  1. This is interesting indeed. CTV and TSN definately come off big winners here, thus fending off the first time in a long time that the World Cup wont be on TSN. I am glad for TSN. I am wondering if the two networks will combine the talents of Gerry Dobson, Craig Forrest, Dick Howard and Vic Rauter. I am imagining that the Spanish television rights pretty soon will be sold to Telelatino. Ten to One, I bet that happens soon.
  2. It is too bad that the Canada/Spain Friendly will not be on the Television. I think it would have been fun to see this one. What is interesting to note that this is beeing played on a WCQ weekend (Labour Day weekend) as well I also Noticed that Sportsnet will be showing a friendly between the Canadian Womens team against the German Womans Team. I am also curious that morning of September 3rd if Rogers Sportsnet will be showing an England WCQ??
  3. I will agree for the most part that Fox Sports World Canada has kind of gone downhill, but I won't give up on it just yet. Despite the fact the channel shows massive amounts of repeats of the same games and as well an overdose of Rugby and Aussie Rules football, There are some qualities that are still good namely MLS, USL, Futbol Argentino, the odd EPL game and Fox Sports World Report. I will say this that FSWC must improve this year, now that it faces increased competition from The Score now and Gol TV Canada in October. It is still worth $1.99/mth, but barely. It would be nice if the
  4. Interesting indeed to hear that the Miami area might be getting a team in the USL. I am just curious what Canadian cities would be favourites to get an USL based on that interview recently on the radio, since they were not mentioned. While I would love to see Winnipeg have a team for USL in 2006, that would be really highly unlikely. 2007 and beyond is more likely, but stranger things have happened. There is currently no owners whatsover and Winnipeg doesnt have a good enough field now. But like I say for 2007 and beyond would be the best time, if at all. I hold my optimisim.

  6. Yea, I have heard a lot about the Italian Soccer Fanatics on TLN. I will try to catch it this year at least once. Let's hope Italian Serie A doesnt get cancelled or delayed due to the strife that is going on.

  8. Just read that Gol TV Canada will debut on October 15th, a Saturday. Facinating indeed.
  9. Couldnt agree more, Cheeta. I cant believe it was sixty years ago that this happened. I just hope we as a human race never see a nuclear weapon dropped on a city again. No means ever justify it whatsoever. Let's take a moment of silence to remember the victims of this sad incident. May Peace be with you all. Mr Populist Futebol
  10. Here is the Letter I wrote to Shaw Cable with regards to Gol TV Canada Yesterday. ______________________________________________________________________ Dear Shaw Cable Customer Service: I would like to commend your excellent commitment to providing customers with the best options in digital televised entertainment at affordable pricing. Shaw should be commended for this. I am also writing to you with regards to a new digital television channel that will be availiable to Canadians in the fourth quarter of 2005 called Gol TV Canada and if Shaw Cable in Winnipeg will be gettin
  11. Just some thoughts on another mouth watering issue. For me, I just cannot see MLS and the Premier Mexican league Merging. Their operating systems are day and night. Television revenue in Mexico is way more then in the US, The Mexican League has a relegation system, unlike MLS in the US. To me if you want to see U.S. and Mexican clubs go at it, let's support building a strong CONCACAF Champions Cup, as well as friendlies between clubs of these nations. That is the type of international competition I support. To me a nations's soccer league for the most part is like national identi
  12. This is fantastic news. I remember last year GOL TV tried to get a spanish television licence from the CRTC and failed. But the second time around worked, thanks to some tinkering. I am really glad and excited about this. This will definately give FSWC some much needed competition. FSWC is still pretty good, but definately has dcelined somewhat. It isnt as good as when it debuted 4 years ago, I think into large part the fact that they show too much Aussie Rules football. But anyways, with the developments in the past decade with Sportsnet, FSWC and now Gol TV Canada coming in October
  13. Almost forgot about Alf DeBlasis. Very knowledgeable commentatory for Telelatino would rank up their as well.
  14. Interesting to hear. With regards to Winnipegs chances in the future, it could be helped with the new WSCII supposedly being built soon, as well obvioulsy an owner.
  15. What is everyone's favourite soccer television personality in Canada? Mine has to be Bobby McMahon, without a doubt. The class of Fox Sports World Report. He is worth sacrificing my going out Friday nights for his absolutely insightful commentary on the game. A hidden jewel from Winnipeg Manitoba. Craig Forrest would be a close second along with Dick Howard.
  16. L.T., Very good article. I found it very enjoyable indeed. It makes a very Strong case of the importance of creating a professional soccer league in Canada. Now with regards to the last days of the CSL, I do recall even in my young ripe age of 12 in 1992 the Winnipeg Fury did win the last ever CSL championship. Oh the potential they had to build a dynasty. What a shame the CSL folded. I am hoping in the near future Winnipeg Will get the chance to see some pro soccer. I am optimistic that it will be sooner then later.
  17. From my understanding I believe that the Aspers are still based in Winnipeg. However I dont know how interested the Aspers would be interested in even thinking about buying a USL division 1 soccer team.
  18. Great stuff. Now I will be able to get my kicks and Honey Nut Cheerios sunday Morning even more. The EPL on Fox Sports World Canada, Italian Serie A on Telelatino and the EPL NOW on the Score. Cracking stuff indeed.
  19. _______________________________________________________________________ Interesting view on many points. My own personal opinion is I think Winnipeg could very well see a USL division one team within a few years for a few reasons: 1. The WSC II complex once up and running will definately help with regards to a decent stadium for a team to play. Glad to hear that some footy is being played at WSC now, less dressing rooms. 2. While the USL head honchos "Only" say that they "Only" want 16 teams in USL division 1, thus leaving room for "Only" 4 more, my feeling is teams move around
  20. Just curious on what people's opinions are on if there will be any near future expansion in the USL for the first or second division. Does any one think there will be any more Canadian teams? If so what does any one think about the chances of cities like Ottawa, Winnipeg and Hamilton seeing professional soccer any time in the next few years? And what will the impact of possibly the MLS coming to Canada have with the Toronto Lynx? Just something new to talk about
  21. I am just wondering what everyone here in the Voyageurs disscussion forum think of the NHL's return and the impact that it will have on soccer coverage this upcoming season, namely the UEFA Champions League on TSN. I think we as soccer fans could be in tough this year, as I have a feeling UEFA champions League will have very limited coverage because the NHL will get prime coverage on TSN, as well the Winter Olympics are happening in February, right in the middle of the UEFA Champions League Knock out stages. Let's also remember the fact that the Canadian Curling Association wants to go
  22. While I told many people that I thought Panama would be the surprise team of this year's Gold Cup, I did not think they would beat Colombia. This is shocking. Good for Panama. I think this is the dark horse team of the tournament.
  23. Kind of disapointed South Africa that they are bringing there cruddy squad. Does any one have the feeling that Panama could be the surprise team of this year's Gold Cup?? I got a feeling they could squeeze through the quarters somehow, considering they have a easy group.
  24. I am going to Boston. I am leaving Sunday Morning from Winnipeg via the Greyhound Bus. It will take me about 45 hrs to get there. I have taken vacation time for this, so I am pumped. By the way, I will be sitting in section GA1 Row GA0 seat 28. I agree with all of you, while I am not keen on Canada's chances of getting to the quarters (thanks to the crummy draw), stranger things have happened, and we all want to see these boys pull a surprise or two during the dog days of summer. It would be nice to see these boys pull off a few surprises, considering that there is a very good chance t
  25. I have been following this tournament, via internet, watching the highlights on FSWR, and reading World Soccer Magazine and have been facinated. The all Brazilian final should be interesting. It is too bad we cant get the final here on digital cable. The Fox Soccer Channel in the United States is showing both games via tape delayed. Personally I want to see Sao Paulo win. It would be good to see them win. However I must say the low point in this tournament was the return leg between Boca Juniors and Chivas De Guadalajara in Buenos Aires. The former Boca coach spitting @
